[Johnny Paradise]

 

Hello friends. It's me, Usey. I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I'm making an RP. The good news is that I just drank a refreshing Coca Cola. So what is the purpose of this? Well, this is vaguely inspired by a Pathfinder game that I will be playing with some real life friends--and therefore, not with Rogue or Rob. They were upset, as anyone would be, that I wasn't going to be spending time with them. I get it: I'm a likeable guy. People want to hang out with me. And so I decided to try and translate the tabletop experience I'm having with other people to a forum experience I can have with them--and some of you! Hurray!

 

There will be no real Pathfinder mechanics, so if you have no knowledge of that it's ok. And if you don't know the setting, even better! Because this is a homebrewed setting. I will be borrowing a good deal from Pathfinder in terms of very basic things--such as races, religions, and other bits like that, but those will be pretty straightforward (and if you want to have your own made-up deity, just run it by me and it's probably fine).

 

So, now that we're past that, here are the facts:

 

Premise:

62 years ago, Ranica, the capital city of Vetra, sank beneath the lake it was built upon. The city's waters surged and overflowed as a great storm overtook the city, and the royal line perished within the drowned capital. Since that day, the storm has raged, overtaking nearly half of Vetra's landmass.

 

In the aftermath of the death of their king, the Vetran nobility scrambled to gain control, to assert their family lines as the new rulers of Vetran society, but before a war could break out, all were silenced by a great peal of thunder. One man, bearing a crown forged from lightning, appeared. The new King, Aelan of Gaothan, a man of common birth, took the country by force, commanding the terrible power of the storm and bending it to his will. All dissenters were crushed beneath the storm's fury and before long, all pledged their loyalty to their new King.

 

The capital was moved to Gaothan, and from there the storm's influence spreads.

 

On the outskirts of this storm lies the town of Castow, the last stop one can make before entering the tempest. Here, a mercenary guild known as The Storm Wardens is stationed, and they make their business venturing into the storm that many refuse to enter. Any number of lords and merchants living outside of Gaothan request their service, and even the common folk afraid of bandits lurking in the perilous wilderness come to the Storm Wardens for assistance. You, the players, are members of this band of mercenaries, and though you might not be native to the land of Vetra, her storms do nothing to dissuade you from your mission.

 

The World:

The places of interest to this RP are as follows:

 

Vetra, where the players begin the RP, is a land of storms, covered in lush green forests and wetlands. The areas outside the storm are more lightly forested and filled with open plains. It is ruled by a tyrannical king.

 

Ivares is a great desert to the south of Vetra. Its capital, Haram, is a thriving market.

 

The Ashlands are a series of islands coated in ash. The region has a large amount of volcanic activity. There are very few people living here.

 

Giltstone is an underground kingdom ruled over by the dragon, Feiruz. She lives in a palace wrought from stone and inlaid with the many gemstones natural to the Giltstone mines.

 

The Chillspine Mountains are a snowy range close to Giltstone. A roving tribe of barbarians rule the area.

 

Merrowdeep is a coastal region, and the eponymously named capital is built on a massive bay. It is ruled by a consortium of Merfolk and is generally neutral in most global affairs.

 

Eventide is a region cast in a perpetual dusk, where colors and sounds are mysteriously muted. It is ruled over by a benevolent king, yet suffers under a constant assault of undead. No one has figured out from where these undead thralls are coming from.

 

Feln is a swampy region ruled by a shamanistic queen. The country boasts a great knowledge of medicine and disease, and most of history's greatest healers have hailed from this region.

 

The Mazewood is not a country, but a great forest that encroaches upon the neighboring lands of Merrowdeep, Eventide, and Feln. Heavy deforestation efforts are being enacted by all three countries to stop to unfathomably fast spread of forested land. Many druidic peoples make their homes in its ever-changing canopies.

 

The People:

Like I said, I'll be borrowing races from Pathfinder. This means there are Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings, Elves, Half-Elves, and Half-Orcs. In addition to that, some of the setting's stranger races will also make an appearance here, and since those are a little less self-explanatory to the uninitiated, I'll explain them here. Note that all of these following races can be born to any other race; they are touched by otherworldly things, which changes who they are, but otherwise remain like their normal kin.

 

The Ifrit are people touched with fire. They are mostly found within the deserts of Ivares, the closest populated region to the Ashlands.

 

The Undine are people touched with water. They are mostly found within the lands of Merrowdeep.

 

The Oread are people touched with earth. They are mostly found in the caverns of Giltstone.

 

The Sylph are people touched with air. They are mostly found within the country of Vetra.

 

The Aasimar are people of a celestial nature. They possess an alien beauty, and are looked to as paragons of virtue--though they often do not exhibit many virtuous traits. They are mostly found within the deserts of Ivares.

 

The Tieflings are people of an infernal nature. Their appearance strikes fear into most peoples' hearts, though they are not inherently evil. They are mostly found within the swamps of Feln.

 

All of these extra races are very rare, but their existence is commonly known.

Backstory: I want to know one thing, mainly, and that is why are you a mercenary. The rest can be as long or as short as you want or need.

 

Abilities: Are you good with a sword? Are you a practitioner of arcane arts? Do you draw your powers from your faith? Or maybe you have a cute puppy named Patches who is actually a 6 foot tall wolf that eats people. We all have different talents, that's what makes the world so wonderful.

 

I haven't made an ooc in a billion years so if I forgot something lemme know. Ask for more info on whatever and it will be given, probably.

Sounds pretty cool. I like the idea of making someone who is a 'Stormrunner,' like the title, in some sort of way. Maybe they can fly or something. I haven't thought about it much. We'll see. But to me it's a cool idea. :3

DR -- The most commonly known Orc tribes are either in the area between Vetra and Ivares (where the land starts to become arid, with small mountains and plateaus that break into desert) or in Feln, controlling large bogs. Half-orcs are therefore more common in those areas.

Probably everywhere. Half-Orcs tend to just be the union between Orcs and people they've enslaved

Name:  Marceline "Marcy" Starling

Age:  20

Gender:  Female
Race:  Human

 

Backstory: Marcy is a nice girl.  Everyone says so.  She's always the first to help out and the last to ever make a disparaging remark.  Just a nice homely girl who you could find in just about any corner of the world.  Except that she also is way into the necromancy.  Which, is totally not sinister or malign in nature.  That's just a big misunderstanding.  Really, she only took it up to try and help her homeland,  the Eventide.  You know, the place constantly assaulted by the color grey.  Also dead things.  They are also annoying.  Which is why Marcy wanted to try and understand them through the power of necromancy!  See, our girl here is a natural peacemaker and wanted to try to assuage whatever in the world got the dead's bones all bruised.  

 

Thing did not go exactly as planned.  The short story is that mistakes were made.  The longer story is that someone thought they could calm the undead long enough to figure out what is happening.  Perhaps talk to them. Ask them what's their deal and if they maybe could chill out for a hot minute.  They might of even put the defenses of their town at risk and put people's lives at danger with this kind of stunt.  This necromancer, whoever they might of been, was probably very sorry that things played out that way and pointed out that at least nobody was dead which is something we should all be thankful for.  Things may have been said by all sides, some less than others,  that were hurtful, mean, and just altogether unnecessary. This anonymous necromancer, could be anyone, pointed out that they most likely are just caught up in the moment and will probably regret their words.  They assured them that would not be the case and faced with the cold certainty of their accusing stares this poor soul acquiesced to their request that they vacate the town and preferably the country.

 

Marcy just happened to leave at the same time as that person obviously,  Completely unrelated.  You could even write to ask them just to clear up the misunderstanding.  Probably shouldn't though.  They are very busy and their penmanship is awful.  Right.  It's best to just leave things at that.  Marcy is a nice innocent healer who just so happens to keep the company of things that are in the midst of existential crises.  Okay, so maybe she might possibly be that necromancer.  Maybe.  No way of knowing for sure.  If she was though it was likely a big misunderstanding and not at all that she is evil.  Just look at her not wearing dark colors or writing pentagrams and having blood ceremonies.  Marcy is a nice girl who just wants to make friends and see everyone be happy. 

 

Which is why she joined a mercenary band.  Nobody is friendlier than mercenaries.  

 

Abilities:   Lot's of stuff.  All good things.  Cooking for one.  Floral arrangement that's another.  Sewing.  There's three.  Course, you just want to know about other junk which really has no use in most day to day activities and just want to brush past the rest.  Which is rude but okay, sure.

 

Necromancy:  Interacting with the dead can mean a lot of things but yes it usually means keeping the company of the less than living.  Which Marcy does because they are gentle souls who listen to her problems and never judge her.  Like Mr. Skellypants.  He never makes faces at her when she describes how hard it is to tame her hair with the constant storms.  

 

Healing:  Healing hurts is surprisingly related to necromancy.  Someone has to make the boo boos go away and that person is usually Marcy.  She's nice like that.

Where are all the characters?  How can Marcy live out her dream of having an undead harem if np rp happens because people didn't join?  Why must you ruin Marcy's life.

Name: Rokthar Ironhide

Age: 25

Gender: Male
Race: Barbarian - Tiefling

Appearance: -

 

Backstory: There is nothing special to his story, it was too difficult to live by himself in the cold Chillspine Mountains after his family was claimed by a particularly severe blizzard. Rokthar decided that he'd not waste his life in these god forsaken lands and would rather doing what he loved doing; which was fighting. Thus, he traveled to Castow in search of adventure, thrill and most of all a hearty battle.

 

Long story, Rokthar was born to Hilda and Hesir Ironhide after they had made a long journey to Feln and met with a Shaman. Hoping to find help with their predicament, they had thought that the shaman may be of help and help was what they found. But, it came at a price, as the shaman called on the jujus to bless the couple with a child, Hilda became afflicted by the infernal spirits.

 

Shortly after Rokthar was born, though he had the innocence of a newborn it won't be wrong to say that he was hideous and scary to look at. The fact that Hilda didn't survive the birth also meant that the tribe, which was largely superstitious asked Hesir to either kill the harbinger or be cast out. Choosing to preserve the last memory of his lovely wife, Hesir decided to leave the tribe. 

 

He carefully looked after the young Rokthar, grooming him into a fearsome warrior yet a benevolent human being, not believing that his child was inherently evil. As the child grew, Hesir aged hard, his harsh time all alone in the wilderness of Chillspine made him weary and haggard but he soldiered on, forming a close bond with Rokthar till the day when an unexpected Blizzard cut his life short, leaving the young Rokthar all alone in the chilling confines of a large cave. Time passed slowly as he took on the wandering ways of his father and soon came upon some travelers that made him aware of the situation elsewhere. Hoping to start is life anew he descended from the punishing mountains into the land blessed by the storms, to make a living for himself.

 

Abilities: CQC - He uses his large size to his advantage as he is nimbler than he looks and those muscles pack quite a punch.

Survivalist: Living in a cold barren wasteland makes you appreciate things like food whether fresh or dried.

Ax swinging: He is handy with a pair of axes.
