Thousands of years ago, when the world was newly born, the Seven Grand Eidolons that shaped it lived in peace with humanity. They watched over what most of them considered their greatest creation, and as the little humans began to seek to extend their influence the Grand Ones saw their curiosity fostered. They showed the humans how to channel the elements, how to influence nature for their needs, how to make the world their own. But Fafneros, the Grand Dragon, did not approve of this; "If this continues, these humans will one day unmake all we have done. Encourage them no more." But the others did not heed him, and continued to teach and guide us.
One day, a sect of humanity went too far. They misused the magic they had learned, pushed it far beyond what they should have. The result... was a cataclysm. And as the world split into pieces and scattered itself into the land masses we know today, the Grand Dragon's rage awoke. He marshaled his children and his followers, and embarked on a crusade to exterminate humanity. But the others resisted and opposed him. Gwaivar the Grand Eagle spearheaded humanity's stand against extinction, prolonging the Eidolon War for a decade as he and Fafneros found themselves evenly matched while the Dragon's scions were stopped by the Grand Bear, Stag, Lizard, and Wolf. The tipping point came in the bubbling of the sea; Leviathus, the Ocean Lord and last of the Seven, rose from the depths. Enraged by the Dragon's boiling of his waters and massacre of the fishermen who paid him tribute, the Leviathan turned his power against Fafneros and his forces. Under the combined assault of both Gwaivar and Leviathus, the Grand Dragon was felled and his body entombed far from the eyes of man. And, in the ruins of the War, humanity was left to rebuild. The Grand Ones again lent their aid, showing the newly crafted nations how to thrive in the new lands and climates they now found themselves in. And when humanity had stabilized once more... they vanished. Ever since, man has been left to himself to nurture and grow. And grown he has...
The Premise
The world has changed since the days of the Eidolon War. Magic and science have advanced hand in hand, and wonders aplenty have been born as a result. Most prominent of these is the airship, the technology that changed the world. Multiple countries have taken to this technology, most prominent of them being Azuria and her Sky Navy. You are a proud member of the crew of the Dagger, a frigate-class airship led by Captain Amelia Garnet. The good Captain was once a up and coming Officer in the Azurian military, but her common birth and a number of other things drew the ire of the Admiralty and led to her being framed and discharged. Her chance relations with the Royal Family protected her from criminal charges, but could not restore her rank or place in the Navy.
So, seeking to make lemonade from her lemons, Amelia purchased a Frigate to call her own, assembled a crew, and set out as a contracted privateer. Her contract with the Crown, signed personally by the King of Azuria, enables her to receive the same treatment as any Navy vessel in any Azurian dock, and when she isn't taking out specific contracts around the world she spends her days hunting pirates. To do this, she relies on an able-bodied crew- you lot. Anybody of sensible background is welcome aboard her ship, which even the snobbiest of nobles acknowledge as a worthy name to tie one's self to, so long as they pass her personal inspection, so feel free to make a fun backstory (you even have rights to toy with the worldcrafting for the most part, though some things will not be allowed). And don't worry about being a lowly deck swabber (unless you REALLY want to), because the following Officer Positions are available for Player Characters!

World Map
Azuria
A desert nation on the south of the world. One of the largest and most prosperous nations, rivaled only by Rubis, Azurians were taught how to thrive in the desert by Gilas the Grand Lizard. Under his tutelage, the Azurians learned to find, cultivate, and grow the natural oases of the desert, and around these places of green amidst the sand their greatest cities took root. With the advent of the Vaelan Airship technology, Azuria's power and influence have only grown stronger. Their capitol, Berylen, is a towering city that seems to extend endlessly into the sky, protected by its formidable Sky Navy. Azuria is where the Player Characters reside at the start of the RP.
Rubis
The other nation to rival Azuria in strength and influence, Rubis is the largest nation on the map and rules over a myriad of climates. Rather than learn how to live from one of the Grand Eidolons, the Grand Bear Orebora merely guided the Rubians to their new home and left them to manage themselves. The land was fertile, versatile, and nourishing, and the people found establishing their lives easy. In the modern day, Rubis is known for its agriculture and its powerful land-based forces, though its airships are certainly no pushovers. Its capitol of Ardis sits between two great lakes, and is often considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Vaela
Once a nation that could stand up to its superpower neighbors to the north and south, Vaela is a country that has since become synonymous with sudden misfortune. Ancient Vaelans revered the Grand Stag Patraceon, who showed them how to live within the dense forest and among the trees... but one day, not 20 years ago, the forest turned against them. The woods grew rampantly and vengefully, strangling the Vaelan settlements and claiming any of her people caught within. Chased to the eastern coast by the trees, Vaela made a plea for survival to anybody who would listen. And to their surprise, none by Gwaivar himself answered them. With the Grand Eagle's help, Vaela stabilized and fortified itself against the encroaching forest, and then they turned their knowledge of magic and steel to ensuring their prosperity. In breakneck time, the Vaelans discovered a way to take to the skies- the airship! This technology was soon shared with Azuria and Rubis, and in the time since Vaela has become renowned as the world's center of research and development for new technology. In particular, the Academy at their capitol of Ankaros is considered a Mecca for high minded individuals everywhere.
Shao Hong
The naval power of the world, Shao Hong is an island nation to the east that grew from the ashes of the fishing villages whose destruction incited Leviathus in the Eidolon War. While they may have had humble and tragic beginnings, Shao Hong has grown to stake their place in the world atop the seas; in return for their continued tribute to Leviathus and his brood, the Ocean Eidolon has shown the Shao a method to ward off the monstrous sea creatures that prevent the other nations from making long voyages across the open sea. Even though airships have allowed the other nations to extend their reach to match Shao Hong, they still hold a significant sway over international trade. It's said that every nation has ears in Hi-ji, the Shao Capitol, that they might monitor the pulse of the world economy at its source.
Arvka
The smallest and least developed of the nations, Arvka and her people make their home in the cold, merciless north under the eyes of Jarvik the Grand Wolf. Priding themselves on their hardy nature and ability to survive, Arvkans are particularly noteworthy for their seemingly barbaric culture where personal strength is everything. However, many visitors to the tundra nation are surprised to find that Arvkans are very civilized and value mental strength as well as physical; "If you are able to survive the north, no matter how so," they say, "The north will welcome you." Arvka's military is more of a national militia that is only called in times of crisis, but the land itself serves to protect its people; the perilous ocean ice protects them from the sea, crossing the Nieve Straight when it freezes is suicide, and the capitol of Holvruk is shielded by the Eavol Mountains, a range of peaks that rise above the maximum altitude of all but the most specialized airships.
The Cerulean Isles
A series of five islands in the south east corner of the world, the Cerulean Isles are considered a sacred site to the world at large as the meeting place for the Grand Eidolons. According to legend and history both, when the Grand Ones are called to order to see the world delivered from crisis, the Isles are where they will convene to discuss and hear their foster children.
The Mistlands
An island to the northwest shrouded by dense fog that extends to cover the entire western sea, the Mistlands are an area that few dare venture to and fewer still have ever returned. Those that have returned speak of jagged cliffs and crags, and of horrors they hesitate to describe. Rumors abound of what lies within the fog, but no ship of air or sea has ever returned from within it.
Magic
Few high fantasy concepts would be complete without some form of magic. In the world of Skybound Saga, magic is done through Runes, which are hereby defined as symbols inscribed upon a surface and infused with the inscriber's will to achieve a specific effect. People are born with different affinities for the rune, and while nobody can be completely unable to use them, there are some barriers. These levels are;
-Normal Person: An average person. They can activate pre-inscribed runes and, with study, learn to draw their own.
-Rune Crafter: Someone who has extensively studied the making of runes. They are capable of drawing any rune they please, and can even make Permanent Runes given the right materials and tools.
-Rune Weaver: A person born with an innate ability to use magic. Weavers cannot use inscribed runes, but they make up for it with the ability to free cast magic (within limitations) as the runes naturally appear on their body, like glowing tattoos that fade once their job is done.
-Rune Maker: The rarest of all, Rune Makers are 100% hereditary and almost solely found within Royal and High Noble bloodlines. Rune Makers are unique because, while they cannot use inscribed runes or weave their own, they are the only ones capable of activating the Grand Runes, massive inscriptions supposedly placed when the world was reborn that can wield power equal to the Grand Eidolons! (No, Players may not be Rune Makers. But they are important to the plot.)
Runes follow 3 basic principles.
1- A rune may only fulfill a single task. If you draw a rune to launch a fireball, it will only ever launch fireballs. It will not produce a stream of flame, or suddenly heal people, it will only throw fireballs. if you want a new effect, you must inscribe or weave a brand new rune. In the case of Weavers, they may only use 1 woven rune at a time.
2- A rune may only be used once unless it is inscribed upon a material that can handle permanent runes. These materials include Spellsteel, Grandstone, and Weaver bodies. For the sake of the RP, assume that any rune you draw will only work once unless I say otherwise.
3- A rune's power and influence scales with its complexity. Pretty much, the stronger an effect you want, the more complex the inscription must be, the more time you must spend making it. Outside of combat, this is almost a nonissue. During combat, however... caution is advised.
Magitek Weapons
Another advent of Vaela's research, Magitek is the name for weaponry currently employed in most militaries around the globe. It refers to weapons forged from Spellsteel, the hardest metal alloy known to man in the world, and one that is unique in its ability to hold permanent runes. Magitek weapons are known for three things; the quality of their make that gives them powerful advantages in both offense and defense against traditional weapons, their ability to be permanently inscribed with runes, and their ability to transform into harmless and compact carrying forms (some models are even able to shift into multiple combat forms or combine two weapons into one). The best example of the latter is Ruby Rose's scythe, seen here.
Players will begin the RP without access to them, but shortly after the start all Player Characters will wield a personal Magitek Weapon and it is this that will "level up" through the RP via concrete stats. The stats are in the form of Ranks across 3 categories;
Steel Rank (1-5): Determines the cutting/smashing/overall destructive power of your weapon. Through the RP, you will encounter a variety of materials that will be rated 1-5: that is the Steel Rank needed to break the material. For instance, the ropes employed on the Dagger have a Rating of 3- meaning your weapon must have a Steel Rank of 3 or more to cut them. Your Steel Rank cannot be 0, ever.
Rune Rank (0-4/5): Determines how many Runes a character can craft to their weapon or Weave and how strong they are. Each point represents a single rune that is engraved on the weapon or, in the case of Weavers, a single specific spell they can cast, while the overall number represents the strength. Non-weavers can have up to a score of 4, Weavers can go up to 5.
Augment Rank (0-3/4): Determines how many augments to the Magitek Weapon the character has and can use. An Augment can be summed up as any additional piece, form, or modification to the weapon to increase its functionality- basically, if you want your weapon to transform or do something it normally couldn't do, you need an Augment. Each rank alots one additional Augment. Non-weavers can have up to 4, Weavers may have up to 3 (to counterbalance their additional Rune cap).
To increase one of the 3 Ranks, you must spend points equal to the next highest Rank (to go from Rank 1 to Rank 2 is 2 points, Rank 2 to Rank 3 is 3 points, etc). Some kind of balance is necessary, as the enemies I throw at you will have different weaknesses and resistances.
Glyphs are a new aspect that I've added. Glyphs are additions to the Weapons that will bring new tools or power to the weapon without reforging being required. They will be acquired through special rewards or the occasional (rare) random drop, and once gained they will be rolled to boost one, two, or (exceptionally rarely) all three Ranks when applied. Glyphs can add new Runes and Augments, but in a more limited scope than normal (since they can be removed), and once a Glyph is removed or replaced it is destroyed. Don't worry about hunting for them- I will tell you when you get one.
