[Kusunoki]

As I said in the comment section, the author of Piano no Mori actually came up with a lot of the characters' names by mixing the names of renowned musicians in real life, especially the Polish ones. Here's a list of those I've spotted. Everyone is also welcome to comment if you know of any other.

Adam Jasiński (Poland) - Adam Harasiewicz (5-time Juror ; Polish pianist) + Andrzej Jasiński (9-time Juror; 3-time Chairman of the Jury)

Andrzej Pavlas (Poland) - Andrzej Jasiński

Waldemar Ekiert (Poland) - Waldemar Maciszewski (Winner of 3rd Prize in 1949) and Jan Ekier (9-time Juror; Well-known for publishing the Polish National Edition of Chopin's scores)

Piotr Weber (Poland) - Piotr Paleczny (7-time Juror; 3-time Vice-Chairman of the Jury; Winner of the 3rd Prize in 1970)

Anna Bilińska (Poland) - Beata Bilińska (Polish Pianist; Student of Andrzej Jasiński)

Beata-Barbara Polańska (Poland) - Beata Bilińska and Barbara Hesse-Bukowska (3-time Juror; Winner of the 2nd Prize in 1949)

Jan Turczyński (Poland) - Jan Ekier and Józef Turczyński (3-time Juror ; Polish pianist, pedagogue and musicologist)

CONTESTANTS

 

Karol Adamski (Poland) and Lech Szymanowski (Poland) - Karol Szymanowski (Celebrated Polish pianist and composer in early 20c.)

Chang-Soo An (South Korea) and Chang-Woo An (South Korea) are probably based on Dong-Hyek Lim and Dong-Min Lim, brothers (though not twins) who tied for the 3rd place in 2005
