This is gonna sound tumblroid but it's true: Many stereotypes of minorities and powerless majorities (peasants, women) have common features (intuitive, emotional, indirect, sneaky, creative, . . .). Those features can be attributed to the power structure itself, which disadvantages many/most members of those groups when in direct competition with members of more powerful groups. Hence they tend to seek other ways of obtaining what they need. In those cases, the stereotype may contain elements of "truth" that are actually truths about the distribution of power in the broader society, rather than something intrinsic about the minority group or its culture.
There are also situations where the tactics appropriate to second/third-class citizenship become ingrained in the culture associated with a particular ethnicity or social role. When this happens over multiple generations, some of those tactics may persist after the power structure changes. Hence you may have situations such as with Americans of Irish descent, where many seem to have a chip-on-their-shoulder even though it's been over 50 years since anyone else gave a f*ck that they're Irish.
