Obviously, if you haven't read this far, spoilers abound.

In light of the new chapter, much has been revealed. Most notably that of the viewpoint of the Invaders, who turn out to be seemingly harmless being of small stature. "Cute" is not an uncommon descriptor of their appearance. They show no obvious ability for destruction or combat ability, and unfortunately even they have little clue as to what is going on in this one sided(?) conflict.

So as not to clutter the Comments section with essays, let us keep up relevant (long) discussion here.

there are many points of contention in what the invaders say namely:

"i swore i'd give my life for the motherland"

does that mean something in a aggressive warlike manner? or are they looking frantically for something else?

"'they' aren't an enemy we can deal with! those monsters wouldn't even listen"

did they try to communicate at first? or did they try communicating after?

"why did the motherland send us here?"

were the majority of the invaders clueless about their mission? or is there some other reason/purpose that their people have in mind?

"we were set up."

are there different factions among the invaders? rifts between the motherland and the people sent to Earth?

"almost half of us went back home because of 'them'"

were there more ships in the area? after finding out the ability of the humans, why did they not all retreat?

Throughout the series there have been scenes with that alien text floating in the sky. Based on chapter 31, there's a chance that that's the aliens trying to communicate with the humans.

Take this page from chapter 2 when the aliens "invaded": http://vatoto.com/reader#0e7425ba200ef347_12.  That could be the aliens broadcasting a message. The only problem is that the humans couldn't understand it.

"why did the motherland send us here?"

"we were set up."

I don't think there's any reason to read too much into these two lines at this point. The question the one invader asks is understandable given he was the sole survivor of a ship filled with his fellow aliens being blown up. And the "we were set up" line is a cliche line that fits with that alien's character. Given all the facts we know, it's easier to assume that the humans are just ruthless assholes (from the alien's POV) than assuming the alien's homeworld trick them/set them up.

"almost half of us went back home because of 'them'"

This line is wrong. Just a mix-up between the translator and the typesetter. It actually says that almost half left for the surface (of Earth), which ties into the lines about some of them being dissatisfied and the line about the alien escaping in a mid-sized ship. All those lines connect together.
