I would like to request a clearer statement on what is deemed appropriate and what is not because the current standards are, in my opinion, lacking in consistency and are subject to a mod's personal taste imo.
While I'm aware that it's not good spirit to compare mangas, I find that the seinen, adult mangas do get unfairly treated and discriminated compared to josei and/or yaoi adult mangas. It seems like, mangas aimed towards the female readers, have a higher chance of being accepted than those aimed towards male readers, which should not happen.
To name one example: Cross & Crime (Seinen). While it does show excessive sex scenes, it is not more or less graphic, violent or whatnot than for instance Caste Heaven (Yaoi). Both deal with a great deal of sexual oppression and violence. And before you ask, no, I'm not trying to get Caste Heaven removed.
Both example mangas should only be read by people adult enough to do so and be able to distinguish between reality and fiction. I'd also tag both with "adult", "ecchi", "violence", "rape" and "psychological".
Batoto has become a registered readers community. So why not have people register a birth date and grant access to these kind of mangas based on said date? You could put a stand-by time on the date for newly registered members/people newly adding the date. That'd stop people from creating new accounts for sport with a fake bday. Make the bday optionable for the entire community to see, so that, if you want that, only a mod could see your birth date. I haven't added it either because I don't see an option to hide it from the entire community (I just think it's no one's business when my bday is).
C&C as well as CH are both 18+ mangas to buy in Japan and I could only buy it with a credit card/age confirmation but both mangas are sold by main-stream bookstores like animate. They do both show psychologically sick people forcing others into sex. While I haven't read the end of CH (simply because it's not even close to finished in Japan), I do know that C&C has the character involved in the sexual violence reflecting at the end and reforming his character. It's deeply psychological and disturbing and the people shown should all see a shrink and get professional help, yes. But it does have a plot and character development. It depicts how a mistreated child becomes an adult who mistreats others and only notices the flaw in his actions when he is confronted with the reality that he's harmed the one person that has helped him live through his agonizing past.
Both mangas have whitened-out and/or pixalized/blocked genitalia and show sexual and non-sexual violence, neither is a Lolicon manga. So - what's the difference that makes one acceptable and the other not? Female nipples vs. male nipples? Are we really there already? It's like this youtube CollegeHumor video. You cannot expect people to respect and understand your policy if it is inconsistent and patronizing towards certain adult (!) reader groups.
The last update was saying something about an "internal debate" from 2014. I think it's high-time to get some words on that. With my proposed age restriction, this entire thing would be way easier. It'd keep kids from gaining access by simply clicking "Are you aware that this is adult content? Yes." and not patronize adult readers as much as it is currently doing. Kids would lose interest if they had to wait -for instance- a month for their added age to become valid. Let's be honest - they'd most likely have forgotten the manga they were about to read when they added the date.
PS: If you should ponder about reviewing CC based on it's story, you can contact me as I do have the entire Japanese raws and am willing to share the not yet scanlated parts for reviewing purposes. Seinen Scans only scanlated it up to ch.32 and I'm unaware of another English language group picking it up. I'm more asking for a general update and reviewing of the policy though because it is inconsistent, unclear and curries favor towards specific reader groups while discriminating against others.
