The goblin made an ear-splitting screech as Rien’s sword slashes across its chest, and its body seemed to shatter like glass. Where its body should’ve been, there was instead a small black marble which Rien picked up. The words “level up” flashed briefly across his screen before he swiped it away and opened up his character profile.
“Wow, this is unreal! Or I guess it’s…too real? I mean, everything is so realistic!” Blue exclaimed beside him. By now had been playing online games with her for almost three years, and had grown accustomed to her excitable personality. Weird personality aside, Rien had to admit that she was a lot better looking than he had expected. Unlike other games, AO did not allow players to fully customize their avatar appearance, as the LexNav headgear that was used to play the game utilized a facial recognition scan making characters mimic their player’s real life appearance. Rien ignored Blue’s commentating and scrolled through his level up window.
“Unspent stat points…three. Only three per level? All this time and they still haven’t changed it…Lexis is as stingy as usual I guess.” Rien complained out loud. Though he wouldn’t admit it, Rien had been waiting with unbridled anticipations for this game’s release since it was announced a year before. Elements Online was his first ever online game, and he had only fond memories of it from his childhood. Though back then he was able to work around the game’s age limit security, he had heard that Lexis had made that impossible for this game.
And nostalgia aside, the game was well worth the wait. Rien watched as another goblin charged at Blue. It was fast, the AI in AO was a vast improvement over its predecessor, which made a good accompaniment for the game’s other realistic features. Blue was faster, though and clubbed the goblin on its forehead with the rim of her shield. He made their signature screeching sound and chopped at her again, but she ducked his cleaver, swept her sword low and caught him full in the calf, just below his ragged shirt’s flapping hem. This time, the blow was enough and the goblin’s body shattered into dust.
“Ahaha, come face me you ugly green ballon headed freaks!” She yelled at them. There were no other players around, so Rien took it upon himself to be embarrassed for her.
It took the duo about half an hour to finish the beginner’s quest. Rien’s sword slashed through the final goblin’s neck and he reached out and grab the black marble it left behind. “Alright, we finished. Let’s hurry back to Sanctuary and receive our reward before all the monster zones become occupied-“
Rien’s words were cut short as the ‘sky’ above him darkened to a blood red color. A large screen appeared over head, and on it was a man wearing a dark cloak, his face hidden behind a dark hood.
“Greetings adventurers, I am the Dark Lord!” the figure on the screen’s deep voice echoed across the server.
“Pffft. Did you hear that Rien? He called himself a Dark Lord? Hahaha!” Blue tittered next to him.
“What’s this, some sort of launch day event?” Rien asked her. She shrugged and shook her head.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to your new home. Some of you may have noticed by now that you are unable to log out of the game. This is not a bug…”
“Tch, what like some anime? What a lame joke,” Rien frowned.
“But don’t be scared, dear adventurers! Think of this like a new beginning! A way to escape from that wretched old world forever!”
“Rien…” Blue tugged at his sleeve. “Look at the game menu!”
“What are you-“ but it was obvious what she was trying to show him. Just as the hooded man claimed, the log out button was greyed out. He tried pressing it several times, but nothing happened.
“Until we meet again, my friends!” the man’s final words echoed across the world before the video feed was cut and the sky returned to normal.
“Rien…what do we do now?”
“I…” Rien looked at her eyes. She was scared and confused, and not really trying to hide it. “I don’t know.”
Premise
Spoiler
Welcome to AO. You guys will start off with beginner characters, approximately a week after game’s launch day (which means that pretty much everyone in the game is a beginner). Being level 9, you guys are soon approaching your first class advancement - how exciting! At the moment, no one has died yet, so it’s still unclear what will happen when you do - though I doubt you want to be the first. The first sphere has yet to be fully mapped out, some quests have yet to be discovered and no one’s encountered its Guardian. This RP will assume that, for some reason or another, your character chooses to leave the safe area of Sanctuary and actually tries to progress through the game and level up.
Note this RP will not track things like individual experience and such, there will be no monster grinding/farming. Instead it will feature several short timeskip sections following important plot progression points, such as completing a big quest, joining your first Guild, etc. So you guys might find yourself stuck on one level for a long time then suddenly find yourself 10 levels higher with assumed monster grinding during the intermediary period.
AO
Spoiler
In 2024 the Lexis Entertainment Inc. launched the first official VRMMO, Elements Online. It did not take long for the game’s popularity to explode, multiple regional servers were kept active worldwide and its player base reached several million active players per day. It did not take long for similar games to be released, utilizing the same virtual reality technology as Elements Online. Within a decade, the online gaming industry blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, but Elements Online servers have been shut down after facing stiff competition from its rivals.
Now, twelve years after Elements Online was officially shut down, Lexis announced its sequel - Aether Online. Their new game would be the first to implement the recently developed LexNav Headset, which could scan player’s brain activity and monitor pulse and heartbeat to allow them to experience the immersive world through all five of their senses.
Aether Online is set to take place several hundred years after the events of EO, to a fantasy world where magic, swordplay, and technology intertwine with each other. New players begin in the city of Sanctuary, situated at the very center of the world. The world is divided into 9 spheres, with Sanctuary existing within the first and smallest realm of Halcen. Each sphere circles around Halcen like a ring, with stronger monsters appearing the further one is from Sanctuary. Each sphere has one Guardian, with the exception of Halcen which contains 8, and it is said the game is completed once every Guardian has been defeated.
Character Classes
There are 5 core classes in AO. Characters may take their first class advancement from novice at level 10. During the beta it was rumored that special quests exist that allow users to advance into unique classes, though this has yet to be confirmed by anyone.
Remember that classes rarely restrict the sort of equipment or weapons you may use, but instead dictate what sort of skills and spells you may learn. A mage is perfectly capable of putting points into Str and charging into battle with a giant hammer, though a fighter’s skills may support this fighting style better.
Fighter
Swift and fearless, Fighters are the lords of the battlefield. Though they usually favor might over finesse, Fighters are capable of using any weapon at their disposal, including ranged weapons and even magic. Their skills and ability to read the flow of battle also enable them to be master tacticians and excellent leaders. No matter the situation, you’ll never mind finding a Fighter at your side.
At level 30 Fighters may advance into a Knight, Guardian, Berserker, or Mage Knight
Rogue
Versatile and cunning, it would be unwise to measure Rogues as the sum of their parts. These jack of all trades are capable of mastering any talent, and this class is offered the widest number of and most malleable skills within AO. With the ability to adapt to any situation, Rogues are never to be underestimated.
At level 30 Rogues may advance into a Ranger, Assassin, Voyager, or Trickster
Mage
Tactful and intelligent, Mages take the term “knowledge is power” quite literally. While any class is capable of learning magic, Mages are the undisputed masters of their craft. They wield the seven elements to be able to support allies, alter their environment and obliterate their foes. Creating pillars of flame, summoning dangerous beasts, teleporting great distances, mages can do it all.
At level 30 Mages may advance into a Archmage, Warlock, Naturalist, or Annihilator
Cleric
Strong and selfless, clerics utilize light magic to support their allies and disrupt their foes. Though healing is their signature ability, clerics are able to fill a multitude of roles from frontline fighters to charismatic summoners. Their unique abilities often make them both the most valued member of a party, and the most sought after target for enemies. Though their path is difficult, a Cleric’s radiant light is able to overcome any obstacle.
At level 30 Clerics may advance into a Priest, Paladin, Shaman, or Inquisitor
Tinker
Curious and innovative, Tinkers are the only core class to not originally appear in EO. Wielding fearsome machines advanced clockwork technology, one never knows what sort of tactics a Tinker will employ in battle. With their unique weapons, Tinkers blaze a path towards the great unknown.
At level 30 Tinkers may advance into a Machinist, Alchemist, Soldier, or Mechaneer
---
Skills
In AO, the countless abilities and talents that a player may learn are known as skills. Unlike spells, skills do not require a recited incantation and are usually not classified under a specific element. They can be either active or passive, and can range from simple talents such as bartering or stealth to special abilities like Lion’s Roar or Ryukansen. A few examples are listed below.

Spellcasting
Spells are aether empowered abilities that are activated through verbal recitation. Generally, more powerful spells require longer incantations and thus are harder to both memorize and recite perfectly. It’s because of this that classes that focus on spell casting are generally considered to be more difficult to play. All spells are tied to one of the seven elements: Aether, Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Light, and Darkness. Spells are accessible to anyone, though some are locked to specific classes and certain classes tend to specialize in specific elements. For example, Clerics and their advancements almost always utilize Light element spells. A few examples are listed below.

Username: DrFeelGood IRL Name: Franky Smalls Age: 31 Sex: Male Theme: Do you ever feel....
Background: Franky Smalls doesn't know much about video games, but he does know that virtual reality video games sound pretty cool. He decided to try it out. And when Franky Smalls tries something, he doesn't go halfway. No, Franky Smalls goes all out. Writing Sample:
DrFeelgood was making poultices when the world stopped turning. A dark figure in the sky told him of his fate, and he thought to himself "Man this video game shit is pretty cool." Aloud, however, he expressed concern for everyone else. For you see, DrFeelgood was a man of the people. And a man of nature. A man of natural people, maybe. His prime concern was for the health of others. That's why his name was DrFeelgood--because he wanted everyone to feel good! And in this moment, there weren't many people feeling good, so he stood aghast for the sake of everyone else.
Although he was pretty into it, he realized that perhaps something was off about this. It certainly seemed illegal. That was another reason he stood there aghast; he abhorred criminals, you see. But he would not be deterred. Franky Smalls was not one to give up, and neither was DrFeelgood. Until he signed off, he would continue to be a man of the people, naturally. This world needed more heroes, and much like Franky Smalls was the hero of his dog, Ignatius, so would DrFeelgood be a hero of Aether Online.

Background: I'm a cool guy. People like me. I know that because that's what they say when I ask them. They wouldn't lie to me. We're tight. I'm also something of a big deal. People know about me. See, I am something of a celebrity in certain circles. Which is to say the gaming community. Yeah. I was a pro video game player. I mean. Technically not. I almost was though like I played in games with people that were and totally beat them which is sort of means I am also a pro. I took videos of it and posted them online with some real sweet edits to give it that personal touch. Nothing over the top, obviously, just some classy little touches to let people know I'm great. Course, haters in the comments just didn't get it so I had to explain to them that they are shitty kids who just can't appreciate me. I never checked for a response but I'm pretty sure they got the message what with how I laid out my argument so succinctly and elegantly. I'm pretty much a wordsmith, really. My teacher in my creative writing course I took over the summer because my parents were bothering me totally told me I could write real good.
The point is that I am a great video game player who wanted to play this game to demonstrate my skill to the unskilled masses so that they might know me for the virtual god that I am. See, that was the problem with the other games. I just didn't get in early enough. Get in early and stay at the forefront of the group and everybody will know my name. CritAKill. Not Barnaby. I hope nobody ever knows that name.
Writing Sample:
I had just picked out my first skill and was experimenting with it when all that stuff went down. See, I joined the game because they advertised guns which is what I wanted to use. So when I was picking out a skill I of course went with one to accentuate that choice. Elemental Bullets. They are pretty cool. I mean, I think they are. I don't actually know. See, I didn't get to start with a gun. Which, I'm pretty sure, is a mistake. I filed a report, several actually, and was trying to get a gm to fix this mistake when the whole sky darkening thing happened.
It was hella lame. If I had a gun I would of shot that douche. I shook my bullet at him though and he disappeared pretty quickly. People say that I'm dumb and that it was just a coincidence but I'm pretty sure that's wrong. I have a whole lot of untapped potential in me that is going to explode all over this stupid game and eventually onto his face. Once I get a gun that is. Swords can't explode. Which is probably why they didn't let me start with a gun! See? It's all coming together now. They are just trying to hold me back because they know the kind of fear I am to the system.
CritAKill is coming though. With a sword. Temporarily.

Background: Yuno always strives to keep her family satisfied, working hard on getting good grades and maintaining a spotless image. It is the virtual reality that she delves into, to reveal a really messed up alter ego, which may be her hidden personality. Writing Sample: Firstly, she thought that the hooded figure was just a gimmick but realizing the truth of his words made a wild smile appear on her face. Finally, she has found a world that she won't have to keep up appearances. Where her family's name and reputation meant nothing and where she could indulge in anything she liked.
She celebrated this by finding the nearest tavern and blowing a lot of her savings on drinks. After fooling around with the other players for a bit, she went in for a nap before getting ready for the life ahead. This was a new life and a new opportunity, perhaps it was time to be a new Yuno as well or just Vex, there was no need of her old name. A new beginning won't be complete without a new name.
Of to adventure!

If you have the time:
Spoiler
Through the vast entity that is the Internet, we now find ourselves in an unfamiliar place. A place of new faces, new personalities, and new adventurers alike. This place is the new home of our motley crew, and it is called Batoto. Here, as we meander through bustling streets and cobblestone draped markets, we find the first new person we will meet this day. Diabolical Rhapsody. What is so curious and is immediately the most noticeable thing about this shy soul is his height. Towering over eight feet high and sporting a two-handed mace that weighs more than some men, one would expect this scraggly bearded giant to be a savage barbarian. Yet those who dare try to scratch the surface a touch soon find a kind soul who so earnestly aims to please. Accompanying the vodka that he drinks and sings softly to is a pen quill made of the finest eagle's feather. His tools of imagination and creation, the studious giant fervently writes his passages for us all to see.
Background: He once was a renowned Bard in Elements Online, a protector of the weak and a musical virtuoso with a jubilant personality.
Writing Sample:
Deegan rested himself against a tree, leaning his back against its trunk as he looked over the GUI which appeared in front of him, swiping his fingers across the various boxes and screens. He suddenly felt like singing...
"Earth below and sky above
Someone's got to,
Spread the love
The world is full of angels and demons
it's up to us to
see what's between 'em"
The Best of the Wild West! Reduced to a noob once again.
Deegan had to admit, the technology used for this game was superb. He felt as if he were in a whole new world. Kudos to the creative design team and the tech team.
When the Dark Lord arrived, Deegan snickered at the corniness of the man, but the overall majesty of this...antagonist was something that he could not deny. Within the manifolds of a scarlet sky, with a black cloak obscuring his features (was he even a man?), Deegan felt a chill run down the back of his neck. He had no intent to log out, but he did watch as those curious of the Dark Lord's speech discovered they were unable to exit the game. The Dark Lord seemed to be the end-boss. Deegan was not entirely sure about the whole situation. He liked the real world, he didn't want to be stuck in this fantasy land forever...even if the idea didn't seem so bad after some thought. Who knows? Maybe it was all just a ground-breaking new event to shock the players and hook even more customers in?
Deegan thought to himself, "From what the hooded hot-shot says, we're all fucked, kiddos. Damn."
Deegan was not going to shy away from helping people, but he wasn't a leader or go-getter, he could rally people but he could not command them. This spoke a lot of his play-style: the aggressive support, the Bard who wanted to rock-and-roll and spread the love! It would be slow, but Deegan was determined. Justice and Joy, his guitars from Elements Online, oh how he missed them. In order to truly make his mark on this world, he needed a guitar...

For a med school student like Jimmy, the game was more a place to deal with stress than anything else. Hitting things until the stopped moving had a strangely restorative effect on his mental fortitude. Mental fortittude being among the things a medical student needs unless they want to go banana’s.
He largely ignored the huge screen that opened up in the sky, thinking it was some random global event. He was busy killing monstrous rodents. He stopped abruptly when the figure in the screen started talking, it was most definitely human and the speech definately wasnt game like.
The content of the speech was worrisome. Not being able to log out, what a joke… Right? A bit frightened now by the thought of being stuck, he opened up his menu. The log out button was missing. He frantically went through every menu available, but the logging out was not an option…
It was then he started panicking, not for the more dire consequences but for the fact that Jimmy in fact had his school finals tomorrow…..

Background: An otaku for the “classical world”, Yuna is from a background where the games were still played on the screen of a television or a computer. To top it off, she currently suffers from what is called chuunibyou – how tragic for the young girl, who believes that dark powers are working against her, and even keeps a journal for recording such important information!
And for your information, Yuna believes her true identity is MARIA experiment no. 20, a tag given to her by the government. To Yuna, as the last of her kind, a race of super-intelligent demi-human entities who were corrupted and forced to go through psychological torment by existing as “true human beings” instead of “the divine self”, her mission is to discover her lost form.
Her fascination of the “classical world”, which may include copious amounts of Dragon Quest, Nine Inch Nails, and Coen Brothers films, are because they are elements of her previous life that supposedly hold clues on how to become a literal goddess on the planet once more, and strike vengeance against the villains who imprisoned her in the first place.
By the way, Yuna is looking for tin hats to wear.
Writing Sample:
Well, Yuna was honestly fairly new to this virtual reality game thing. Was it a common thing to be trapped in this sort of place? She seemed to recall an older anime she watched when she was younger that seemed to have a similar premise, but she absolutely abhorred it, if only because she despised the main character. How can a person like that be so appealing to the masses? The world has truly gone to shit.
But speaking of something going to shit, perhaps her current predicament is a natural order of things. Yes, yes! This Dark Lord figure must be part of that shadow government that trapped her in a human body! Indeed, the mystery is slowly unraveling itself! Much like Javier Bardem from No Country for Old Men, she is simply an instrument of fate, or rather, the victim of such an instrument! No matter which side of the spectrum she is in, Yuna is convinced that she is heavily involved! The knowledge of her predicament is simply locked away within the severe limitations of the human brain!
But yes, what other place for the last of the MARIA to thrive but in a virtual world, a place practically created from information and data? Jokes on those sons of bitches, but they made a mistake in thinking this was a prison for the goddess – now it is time for her to find whatever information is stored in this world to reveal her abilities and sealed powers once again!
Well, hopefully there’s still sweets and soda – no goddess can go without her holy fuel!

She'd brought low two of the enemies, but there were more. Slowly they were surrounding her. One of them came at her from the side. Reaver saw it coming and managed to counter it's charge, cutting it clean in two. The others took this as a signal to attack and she struggled to fight back.
Reaver barely managed to side step the first leap. She attempted to catch the second on a backswing but the force of the dive tore the sword from her hands. Silver linings - it also killed the enemy. But now she was weaponless against two enemies.
The wind was knocked out of her as the last one to attack slammed into her ribs. The one that had missed took Reaver's momentary disorientation to strike her. Again and again the two made harsh blows against her. If they had been intelligent enough to see her growing smile perhaps they would have been more cautious.
Reaver snatched one clean out of the air during it's leap and brought it crashing down upon it's ally. Unrelenting she lifted it up and back down again and again, to use it as a weapon against it's friend. After a dozen slams both were nothing more but mush. Reaver stood alone among the corpses of her foes. Bones shattered. Muscles torn. Blood streaming from her mouth and ears. Victorious
And so Reaver defeated several porings and reached level 2

Background: Jeff's background is one of a rather... dubious, nature. He and his old friend Tommy grew up together, and mostly spend their time getting into trouble, watching comedy films and sometimes running from a policeman or two. His friend Tommy managed to get his hands on a couple copies of this new game after the games happened to fall off the back of a truck a few days prior to it's release. Not wanting to risk leading the police right to them, Tommy was waiting very impatiently for the release day to come before trying to play it. And now, after being sent into the game ahead of Tommy to start working on his character, Jeff was starting to get rather pissed off.
Writing Sample:
"You go ahead and make yer character, he said. I won't be long, just a couple minutes, he said." Jeff muttered in an annoyed silly rendition of Tommy's voice. His friend Tommy who had convinced him to play this game. Jeff had even made a terrible character, as a joke. Tommy had said it was The Future, not 'The Future of Gaming' or anything specific. Just, simply, The Future. Well, now Jeff had been waiting for Tommy to arrive for so long he was an hour into The Goddamned Future. An hour of waiting around and Tommy still hadn't shown up. Tommy was going to get a good slap round the chops next time he saw him.
And then the sky went all evil-like and the mother freaking Dark Lord revealed himself. Also he said they were all trapped in the game now. Probably forever. Which was fantastic. Of course this would happen. Tommy would drag Jeff into the game, not join it himself, and then get him trapped inside a freaking computer game he wasn't even all that interested in playing. He should have seen this coming. Nothing Tommy did ever led anywhere good. And he was stuck with this god-awful character too!
"Tommy, if you can hear me somehow... Yer a bastard."

Background: Plain and outright bullied in school, Lil Peppercorn is a cesspool for hate an anger. She wishes that her life was better but could never muster the courage to step out from her stigma hence her escape from real life and into games much like AO. In game, she's has never given out her real name in fear that someone may recognize her. In most times she uses these games to leash out her anger on others.
Writing Sample: Lil'Peppercorn was about to log off when a global wide message flashed before her. A man, who introduced himself as the Dark Lord, claimed that everyone who was in game would be stuck in AO. Must be a new event, thought Li'l Peppercorn ignoring the Dark Lord's message and proceeded to logon out only to find the logout button was greyed out.
"It's true, logging out seems to be disabled," thought Lil'Peppercorn. It seemed strange to be stuck in game, much like those animes that she had watched. She pondered on the subject for a while especially the Dark Lord's words, "A way to escape from that wretched old world forever!" which echoed in her mind. Imagine never going home or going back to school, never going back into the real world. No more bullies, No more being hurt. She smiled at that thought.
"If this were all true, then maybe... just maybe it was worth fighting to keep things the way it was." She may have been weak in real life but in this game she wasn't. Now she'd do anything to protect that.
"I wonder if The Dark Lord is hiring?" Lil'Peppercorn thought as she headed back to the sanctuary, hoping to get more info on the Dark Lord.

Writing Sample: Setting aside her meal, Chacha listened and blankly stared at the sanguine sky as its brilliantly blue hue had returned. The words of the Dark Lord continued to echo in her head. She wasn't sure how she'd react to this news, though she couldn't help but grin; she was obviously thrilled. Having her consciousness trapped in cyberspace wasn't that much of a problem. Chacha didn't have a lot to lose; aside from her turtle and job, there was practically nothing left for her in the real world anyway. Spending the rest of her life in a realm of fantasy didn't seem that bad, but was definitely unlikely.
Although unable to log out for now, Chacha knew that this was too good to be true. Opportunities like this were short-lived and temporary at best. She sighed in disappointment. The best thing she could do was to make the most out of it while it lasted. Her smile had vanished as she turned and saw the other players around her. Clueless and frightened, most succumbed to their panic. Honestly, this annoyed Chacha. Pessimism was something she disliked and she wouldn't allow this to ruin her fun. Chacha turned to Aether Online to escape from reality. A whole new world was in front of her. It would have been rude if she kept it waiting. But for now, she had some food to finish.

Mika is, for the most part, your typical teenage girl in her final high school year. Her grades are above average, but she was never really on the top of any subjects. She has some friends, but most of which are just the typical "cool kids" you hang out with to avoid being called a weirdo. All in all, her life was bland, and thanks to her overbearing parents that kept on pushing her to do more than just being average, was also quite distasteful.
It's not that she hated studying. She was good at it, and since she's good at it, she naturally took a liking to it (yes, you love studying because you're smart, not the other way around). Yet, no matter how much you liked something in the beginning, if you're pressured to do it continuously, you'll end up hating it eventually. And that's what happened to Mika. She was fed up with the entire studying. Of course, she could not skip school or score badly on purpose. That would put shame on her parents, and she would not want that, even if her life was dependent on it.
So what did she do? Naturally, she resorted to games as an escape. A relief, even, if "escape" is a bad word for you. It started with simple mobile games that her cool friends played on their shiny smart phones, but they soon lose their luster. Mika wanted something more, something she could sink her thinking teeth in. And one day, she stumbled upon the LexNav and the MMO Aether Online. She decided to try it on at its grand launching date, and had been absorbed by it ever since. Quite literally.
Writing Sample:
Mika's first thought when she realized that the logout button had been disabled was, "Whoever decided to do this must have really hated us gamers". First of all, one of the main reason people love gaming so much is because it does not immediately affect their real life. They spend time, sure. They got scolded and ostracized, maybe. But any mistakes you made in-game, would most of the time stay in-game. You could reset everything and start from scratch. There's little to no consequences that you would immediately feel. You're free to do what you want, and if you're not satisfied, you can start over. That's the reason why gaming is so much fun for many people.
Now imagine that in such a universe, somebody out there decided that it's cool to remove all those aspects. What will happen? Now the game is nothing but an extension of the dreaded daily life. People would start to fear for their lives, and stopped playing altogether. They will stop adventuring to the more challenging grounds, and with the diminishing resources, selfishness would kick in and disputes would start growing here and there.
Mika would not want to have anything to do with such a thing. She even contemplated suicide once, just so that people could tell what will happen when you die. Then again, the prospect of actually dying permanently without doing anything worth mentioning stopped her from doing so. With little to no options, Mika decided that it's best to leave the starting city at once and try to enjoy the game to its fullest. Should she die, then so be it. With a little luck, maybe she would respawn and people would start exploring the game more. If death are permanent.. Well, at least it would be better than living in the slums of the starting city being paranoid about everything.
Thankfully, however, Mika has yet to die. That's a plus, isn't it?

Writing Sample: After a long, arduous evening of healing, helping, and making things generally explode, Oddlyodd was a happy little clerical novice. Cheerfully humming a sweet tune as she strode down the ragged dusted path, the whimsical swing of her wooden staff marked her pace easily as she headed towards the nearest town. While aslew of fresh gems jingled in her pocket to the beat of her song, the little Novice felt at least a little accomplished.
Level nine in just a day wasn't too shabby, was it?
That aside, the moment she stepped inside an inn to log off for the day, something peculiar happened. With a flicker, the menu sprung up for her to see. Drifting her slender fingertip down the line, the Clerical novice noticed something odd. She didn't wake up, she didn't disappear as she should have. Was something wrong? Something had to be horribly wrong! What on earth was happening?!
The sounds of chaos outside meant that other players had realized their similar plight as well, so she did the only thing she could. With chaos came fights, with fights came injuries. She had to do her best to cure them of such ailments. After all, as a whole, each player had to work together to try and figure out what went wrong, and of course hopefully fix it so that they all could go home.
Biting her lip, finding her bravery, and clutching onto her staff, she stepped forward into the chaotic world with the hope that she could be of some kind of help.
And help she did.
Among the ranks of lower level players, she wove between them and gave aid to whomever she could. Soon before long, the little healer became quite the known medic for all her efforts. A tiny little beacon if hope that all would be well in the end.

Now at last we come full circle, back to the hand whose graceful motions first began these tales. Our travels have taken us through town and tower, past glade and garden, through the mists of time and to all manner of locale, but we come to their end in the modern era. Specifically, we come to a loft apartment overlooking the Champs d'Elysees in Paris, France, wherein resides Trouble herself. Some would call her temptress, others know her as charming minx, but nobody dares deny that the lady is possessed of great beauty. As she sits at her writing desk with a fine tipped pen and ink well at hand, a city breeze enters through the nearby open window. The wind causes her raven-colored hair to stir briefly in it before resuming its cascades down to her shoulders, where it briefly touches the angled straps of the midnight blue dress that adorns her well-defined form. With a gentle sip from the thin-mouthed glass of champagne that accompanies her forays onto the pages, she turns her brilliant emerald eyes back to the swirling words she has already put into place. Before she continues on, she checks over her work to ensure that no detail is left unknown, no letter out of its place. For in her passages, as in the mystic runes with which she channels the primordial forces of the world, each stroke is vital and no variance is tolerated. Content with what she has written, the sorceress lays down her writing instrument and makes her way to the balcony. With a breath of the evening air and a wave of her hand, the only decision that remains is what spells she shall weave this night.
