From comments "Pretty sure nobody who watched RWBY was impressed by the plot, though. The story was mostly an excuse to bring about insane fight scenes - I still remember Black's intro and the gunchucks monkey after so long. Half the stuff between the fight scenes are cringey, sure, but at least it's cringey harmless in a children's show way where you learn morals and friendship rather than all the gritty dark stuff coming out these days.

I call bullshit on this. It has both good plot and character development, and it's not a excuse for fight scenes. To go even as far as to call half the stuff between fight scenes "cringey" is BS. I am not saying RWBY has the best plot and character development of all time, but its better then it's fight scenes IMO.

The plot is as basic as it gets, with "evil bad guys want to ruin society so we have to stop them".

There was nearly no character development for the main characters, only character back stories. At best, you could say Weiss and Blake being a bit better team players is the development. The side characters had more development than team RWBY.

Exactly this. The Plot and story for RWBY looks like Soul Eater fanfiction, and is quite mediocre.
I only watch it because the fights can be cool, and because RoosterTeeth. That's it.

Well now I know why you think the plot is bad, you fast forwarded through everything between battle scenes, so you don't know what the plot is. You shouldn't comment on stuff you don't know about.

I never said the plot was bad. I said it was simple. Do feel free to explain in detail why it matters if the ones being bad happens to be stealing dust, or letting loose grimms or whatever other chaos they happen to be doing at the moment. Team RWBY basically just goes 'nope don't care, bad guys get beatdown'. And the whole deal with the animal people like Blake was just them being used to cause further chaos. The only ones that care why are the headmaster and co. So yes, there is more things going on, but none of it actually makes a difference to what team RWBY does, which is why the plot is simple.

Please stay civil everyone. People are going to disagree with everything, people are going to agree with everything; discuss, don't dismiss.

I thought most of the plot was pretty basic teenage stuff, but I think the overall plot has potential. Right now it's really just being all foreshadowy, but I think if it ties in to the overall setting of the series it could be really cool. (I'm still saying it's possible Roman had a perfectly logical and nefarious reason to let season two end like that lol.)

I do think that most people were attracted to RWBY because of the fight scenes. Sure, you can easily poke holes in it, but watching a new fight scene is always fun. There are other stories out there similar to RWBY, but there's nothing quite like those fight scenes.

For me, the fight scenes, the style in general, and the overall setting kind of go hand in hand, with the plot being secondary to my enjoyment of the series.

Also I edited the title to make it clear we're talking about the web series.

It is true that there is alot they haven't told us yet. But certainly "the bad guys" final goals are not chaos. If they deploy chaos, it is only a means to a ends. And the schools of thought as to stopping these people are different too. And the stories of these developing hunters/heroes is well done too IMO

The plot is as basic as it gets, with "evil bad guys want to ruin society so we have to stop them".

That would be a bad plot. Clearly you think so too. So please don't quibble over terminology.

And yeah the team sees people or monsters attacking, and they defend. What else would you have them do?

I'm 'quibbling over terminology', as you put it, because there's a difference between bad and simple.

Bad would detract from the rest of the show. Simple just means it neither adds nor detracts from the show; its just there.

Stop trying to put words in my mouth and assume I hate the plot just because I don't think the plot is amazing.

As I said in the last post, there's a bunch of stuff going on in the plot, but they've yet to make any difference in the show so "potential" is all they are right now.

Personally, I find team JNPR more interesting since Jaune is actually developing, and Pyrrha has her love comedy thing that Nora and Ren seem to know about but don't want to interfere with.

If the plot is just  a excuse to fight, then it would be like it doesn't exist, which to me, would be a very bad plot.

"RWBY anime has good plot and character development"

I have no image that can express my laughter and embrassment at this statement. Also stop calling RWBY an anime. Anime just means cartoon.

Im what you would call a HC fan of rwby but even I have to admit that the story up to this point is basic and at parts sloppily written, sure there is a lot of potential but I mainly watch it for the music, fights and fun characters.

The fights are laughable. Jaune discussing with his team in the middle of a battle, Neptune discussing with Sun because he is afraid of water in the middle of a battle, Pyrrha[who is considered the best fighter] can't hit Mercury even though he is doing backflips, etc. The fights are just stupid, if there is a reason for someone to watch RWBY it definitely isn't the fights, and if someone think the fights there are cool they would probably lose their shit if they watch any common shounen like Naruto or One Piece, even Bleach has better fights.

the series started off being all about the fight scenes, and trying to build up moments to that.
