Esuno Sakae wrote Mirai Nikki and is currently writing Big Order. Hoshimiya Eiji and Kurenai Rin in Big Order bear a great resemblance to Amano Yukiteru and Gasai Yuno in Future Diary respectively.

To recap Future Diary, Yuki and Yuno fight in the battle royale to become god. Later we find that Yuno actually became god in the first incarnation of the world and prompted the second world to be with Yuki. Yuki, in turn, became god of the second world after Yuno died. In the end, Yuno's next incarnation and Yuki together inherit the right to become god of the third world, replacing the god who finally expired.

Now, humor me for a little longer.

In Big Order, Eiji like Yuki is the key player for controlling the world, and Rin like Yuno has a twisted fixation has on Eiji. What if the world of Big Order was the fourth world of Mirai Nikki? At the end of the third world, Yuno and Yuki are about to die when they realize they want to create a fourth world where they can be together again, rather than relive all the heartbreak of Mirai Nikki. Together Yuno and Yuki create a new world (the world of Big Order), and they reincarnate themselves as Rin and Eiji respectively. Because it's impossible to recreate the same people entirely, Rin and Eiji obtain their own identities, separate from Yuno and Yuki.

Without a proper heir to become god, Yuno and Yuki design the world of Big Order to include a game of world domination instead of the extreme battle royale from Future Diary. Simultaneously, both Yuno and Yuki hope that Eiji and Rin become the next god.

So...what do you think?

Interesting theory, not enough evidence for my taste, but interesting

It's more like Big Order is a remake of Mirai Nikki. Some of the characters are really "alike" with the "Diaries" cast, but their characters, characteristics and powers are somewhat shifted. For example, that guy with the eyepatch is obviously a male version of Minene, but instead of her violent and rough behaviour, he is smart and cool-headed. The cunning part is still similar, though. Or that "oracle" girl, who reminds one of the oracle girl in Mirai Nikki. In contrast to her[she got raped and abused by the cultists of her parents sect], though, her parents were overprotective and thus turned her into someone overly pure [thinking that getting touched by a man will make her pregnant e.g.].

In general the whole setting is quite the opposite of Mirai Nikki: The great disaster that's about to happen to the world when Deus vanishes already happened 10 years in the past, and the people who were chosen as "orders" cooperate instead of fighting each other to the death to reach a certain goal. There also seems to be no time limit whatsoever, and the number of orders is unlimited in contrast to the number of diary holders.

Big Order was definitely better especially the anime.  The manga is kind of a mess but still better than Mirai Nikki.  Yukiteru in Big Order was not spineless or useless unlike the Yukiteru in Mirai Nikki who was spineless and was useless for most of the series.   Rin in this was not lunatic crazy as Yuno in Mirai Nikki etc etc.
