Coming fresh from other MMO promoting works like SAO and Log Horizon, and also coming from reading Tower of God, I want to talk about how this universe is constructed.
Instead of being trapped in a game world (SAO) or having a game world positioned on top of the existing world (Log Horizon), The Gamer depicts a "realistic" world that, when touched by the eponymous character Han Jee-Han, becomes a game.
...but the weird part is that The Gamer uses a lot of references to actual occult practices and slapping a gaming status window on it.
I mean, let's talk about The Gamer drawing a pentagram. The explanation is that he's suddenly good at drawing pentagrams because of his gaming ablitity? Uh no, at pretty much every game summoning symbols show up out of nowhere and glow...
Then what does he use it for? He summons a spirit and literally binds his soul to it. Again, this is becoming more of an occult practice and less of a game.
Then there's also stuff like human exploitation at the Abyss Auction (basically their world's eBay/Amazon), the "Witch of Slaughter" who steals peoples' souls, and of course, a character getting possessed as a baby.
idk, what do you guys think? (Looking for some intelligent/semi-intelligent discussion here.)
