I think SIU has mentioned that even after the climb, things don't exactly calm down for rankers. Unless, they wanna be bums.

I've brought this up in other discussions, but I imagine the Tower outside of the testing areas and Zahard's Kingdom as something similar to Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, or Dragon Quest. Within Zahard's Kingdom I'd guess that most Rankers do what any good citizen does.

  • get a job as a test Administrator or one of their assistants,
  • work for one of the 10 Families,
  • join the Workshop,
  • hunt down high risk Shinhueh,
  • get a "government" job,
  • join/make a "dojo",
  • make/run an arcade,
  • make junk food
  • start a company
  • become an Idol/Rockstar/Entertainer
  • go home and become a family man

Outside of the Kingdom its probably like one of the RPG I mentioned where they just sort of pick up requests from Tower residents who need a Ranker's skills and have the money to hire them.

There are probably other "criminal" organization like FUG that also pick up Rankers, and I'd imagine that there would be more than a few crazy individuals who get so high on power that they dare to challenge the system alone just to end up dead. Then of course there would be people like Prince's father who made a business out of "helping" Regulars pay for and pass tests. Outside of all that the only thing I can imagine would be the power crazed individuals who would return "home" after becoming a Ranker in order to take over and form there own little kingdom.

What SIU doesn't illustrate well is the fact that the Tower isn't just filled with humanoid beings. Shinhueh are most likely a very big part of day to day Tower life, and dealing with some of them in large numbers is most likely very difficult. So yea, I imagine Rankers can always find some fun to have in at least dealing with Shinhueh.

This is exactly how I think of it. We have plenty of evidence to your points as well, given how Dan's job, before being duped by Koon, was to hunt down items that could only be attained from or around Shinheuh. Even the Regulars have that sort of RPG life when they're not taking Tests and climbing.

If SIU starts using more of that 3D art stuff, we'll hopefully being to see more nonhuman characters. It's so boring to only see humans everywhere now, when we know that they're far from the only beings living in the Tower.

Oh yea, I'd actually forgotten about Dan's side work. Speaking of him makes you think of Xia Xia as well who was working as an information broker.

...*facepalm*

...Well, when you put it that way, they essentially do... Considering that they work for the same system that almost killed them and all...
