PERSONA: VERITY

 

The massive zaibatsu known as the Ohashi group, a set of research corporations that singlehandedly supported the city of Neo-Tokyo, a metropolis rebuilt over its previous iteration after it was destroyed during conflicts against the invading West in the times of World War III. The Ohashi Group, originally a military weapons developer, eventually turned to other sciences such as medicine upon the end of the war, and it has become the single most powerful entity in all of Japan – that said, it’s effective rule only seems to extend throughout Neo-Tokyo, which is still a formidable size for a zaibatsu to rule over.

 

A year ago, a mercenary group dressed as the Japanese Self-Defense Group set up a perimeter throughout the border of the city, and although life continued on normally, unrest generated from the constant military presence and the roping off of the center of Neo-Tokyo, where the city hall was located – as well as the main offices of the Ohashi Group. This continued on until three months ago, when a gigantic head rose out from within the forbidden zone: a being that called itself Abaddon. The presence of this demon changed the world – the reality of what was once called the occult became all too true, and sudden disappearances in the city brought an all-new definition to the phrase “spirited away”.

 

Yet, in all of this, this new group of young people born to use this power continues to live their day-to-day life with as much normalcy as they could, but the day of reckoning approaches, and with it, a life-changing decision.

The Ohashi group promotes a peaceful balance of calm and energy in relationships, but ask that you avoid the turbulence generated from conflict, quite unlike the ‘whistleblowers’ who seek to incite peril amongst us all. If you have any information on the terrorists calling themselves the Shadows of Liberation, please phone the number below or inform your local military station.”

 

“Lastly, rumors of a long-nosed man claiming to be a fortune teller seem to be circulating around the various parts of the city. Appearances of this unknown man are frequent, but in various parts of the city, almost all at one time. Law enforcement suspects that this may simply be a figure in another activity to ruse up chaos from the Shadows, but we citizens do know better, am I right? Or am I right?”

[History of Student]: Anastasia or Ana had a normal life. The only daughter of a scientist at Ohashi and a fashion designer, she had some sort of a privileged upbringing. No expense or opportunity was spared for finding a cultivable hobby. From piano to Calligraphy, Swimming to Squash everything was a probable hobby and she was left free to pursue it.

 

It was a bit surprising that she found her heart in Jiujitsu. Her father was reluctant yet proud. Her daughter had picked an indigenous style rather than chasing after an in vogue martial art. The practice inculcated discipline, discipline that served her well later in turmoil.

 

Last year, her mother vanished. Without a clue or hint, the searches returned nothing, not even her status. First came the shock and then, her father's nervous breakdown. Her mother had been his world, a hopeless romantic who had lost his sole reason of being alive. Had it not been for the mental fortitude and discipline, Ana would have followed suit by slipping into depression but this served as a rebirth.

 

She became strangely independent and confident, it was now her turn to support the house and though they may not live with same degree of comfort, she knew that she could find enough work to put food on the table. Her various trysts with multiple disciplines played a big part in finding her a temporary job. She taught little kids piano and worked at a flowerstore and manage enough to pay for her school and the expenses at home.

 

Though her grades suffered, she never slipped out from the top twenty and always gave her best. Sometimes though there are mood swings, coupled with hallucinations. She gets visions of a person who is like her and yet completely different. Someone who is raw and in touch with her power, unhinged and unfettered. She wishes to see this woman in action but doesn't know if everything is real or not.

 

Maybe the stress is getting to her and the cigarettes are no longer helpful or aybe she needs to up the intake.

 

[Personality of Student]: A loyal friend and a jovial girl. Easy to talk to and fun to hang with. Ana has an air around her that's strangely disarming, she isn't prejudiced and neither influenced easily. She likes to study the situation and make her own decisions.

Rude people or ignorant pricks usually have the talent of aggravating her which usually ends in a beatdown and a trip to the hospital.

Manchester was born to a very wealthy and business-savvy family in Australia, and after growing up as a pampered young master, the young man moved to Japan along with his uncle. It was only a month or so after the move, once Manchester was situated as a transfer student in school, that his uncle merrily packed up and left for a vacation. Alone in Japan, with only a rudimentary knowledge of the language and culture, Manchester was now alone...well, not entirely. Manchester was supposed to have a twin brother, but the partner-fetus died win the womb while Manchester's fetus survived. As a baby, he noticed that he could see the curiously silent and watchful spirit of his deceased twin brother. The spirit mimicked Manchester's appearance as he grew: from a baby, to a toddler, to a child, to a teenager, and so on. The spirit behaved like a confidant to his brother, who had become comfortable with the spirit's presence. The spirit is invisible to everyone aside from Manchester, to the best of the young man's knowledge, and it is usually always present around the young man. The spirit is incapable of feeling emotion to the full extent a human being can, but it still can express emotion and understand Manchester. The spirit is also incapable of interacting with the world as its current form is quite detached from reality. 
 
Manchester was raised in a predominantly male household and he attended all-male private schools his entire life, until his move to Japan. Therefore, aside from the maids from the estate back in Australia, he has had very little interaction with women. Thus, he has developed a small fear of women, which ranges from slight anxiety to total panic. Manchester is poorly prepared to handle dealing with females, despite being at an age where his hormonal urges encourage his interest in them. Manchester had never met his mother, and his relationship with his father was not very good as well. It was his uncle who Manchester admired the most and enjoyed being in company with. Manchester's uncle behaved more like a commoner than his business executive brother, who was too distraught over the loss of his wife and unborn son to raise his surviving child. It was natural for Manchester, a boy mostly isolated from society, to become engrossed in the remarkable dancing and musical career of his Uncle, a man who traveled the world.  
 
[Personality of Student]: To characterize Manchester's most notable qualities, he is: straightforward, mostly serious and in return mildly humorous, outgoing and bold, and afraid of women to an extent that he becomes incredibly embarrassed or shy.

[History of Student]:

Tsukuda John, at first glance he is a delinquent, he looks and acts the part as well. With a strong glare and muscled frame. That he roams about with a gang of lackeys is another sign that he is yet another deadbeat future drop out. But that is merely skimming the surface, there is always a reason why John does anything. In fact, he never does anything without putting a lot of thought into it.

 

The last thing he wants is to be become yet another brick in the wall, no John won’t let anyone decide his future but himself. He doesn’t need no school to get him ready for college. He even realizes that this current state of freedom is but a fleeting lapse before, college, work and so on so forth. However this is only a reason for him to rebel harder, stronger and all the more wildly.

 

The fact that he has to take care of his younger siblings, is the one thing that acts as a counter weight to his inner crazy.  The death of their parents were sudden and affected all of them greatly, but had the greatest effect on the twins. His parents had been good people, and in many senses John's life would have been very different if they were still alive. They had been doctors, unfortunately it had been their profession that took their lives. They were in China providing relief during an avian flu epidemic. Unfortunately the flu mutated and become far more virulent, ending up claiming his parents’ lives.  Although the money they left behind was good, John had enough foresight to realize that it was just enough to get all three of them through college. With that goal in mind he had to come up with another method of income, to upkeep their daily lives. At first he considered getting a part time job. But that didn’t go very well. not well at all.

 

Eventually he discovered Neo Tokyo’s underground fighting ring, ‘Battle Brain’  here fighters would form into gangs  and then engage in an all out melee. Sometimes these were cage fights, sometimes these were on hard asphalt. There was always a lot of cash going about. Within a few months John had already earned a title ‘Knock Out Jo’  and his gang the Church Street Saints had become crowd favorites. Every battle he played like a game of chess, maneuvering his opponents into optimal positions, making use of  weakness both physical and psychological, then brutalizing them with animal ferocity.

 

[Personality of Student]:

Brash and brutal, John is the kind of punk one expects have a future carved out as a future criminal. In fact the lack of  respect in his speech will send most regular japanese into a frenzy. However few notice that observant glint in his eyes as he begins to pick you apart in that moment of emotion. By then he will have gotten a good idea of what kind of person one is, what he likes and dislikes and furthermore what John needs to do get what he wants.

 

John however unlike, most of his friends and lackies has a plan laid out, he knows exactly what he’s doing. One would even be surprised to see his grades, which are top class. If it weren’t for his responsibilities, John would have given far less importance to this aspect of his life. But with his little brother and sister depending on him, John can’t, won’t be that selfish

 

Perhaps, his current state as a delinquent battle junkie is just a way for him to lash out against a world that just seems to unfair. A world that has tried too, and has successfully caged him within its invisible bars. At times he feels as if  there are a thousand thick iron chains dragging him into some predetermined path. As the chains pull further on two conflicting desires build up within him, one which gives up and lets the chain drag him on, another that rages and furiously strains against the chains fighting for every step. Only time will tell which part of him will win...
