So, after reading S2E235, I couldn't help but entertain some idle curiosity. I went to WebMD and checked out Dissociative Identity Disorder and noticed some interesting things.

Symptoms include :

Depression

Mood Swings

Suicidal Tendencies

Sleep Disorders : Insomnia, Night Terrors, sleep walking

Anxiety, panic attacks, phobias

Alcohol or drug abuse

Compulsions or rituals

Psychotic like symptoms including visual or auditory hallucinations

Eating disorders

Other symptoms may include

Headache

Amnesia

Time loss

Trances

Out of body experiences

Self persecution

Self-sabotage

or even violence toward himself or other people

So let's go over which of these symptoms Baam has.

Depression, Baam has been depressed since Rachel pushed him off the platform during the Guardian test on the Floor of Test. Understandable as to why he is depressed, but it is also not the first time. Evidence that Baam suffered from depression was evident when he started building that rock tower in his cave to try to reach the light.

Mood Swings. I don't want to say Baam has mood swings, and for the most part he doesn't really have mood swings, but the signs are starting to show.

Suicidal Tendencies. This one is hard to state for sure. While Baam hasn't specifically stated that he wants to kill himself, he has already stated that he's already lost his will to live. These are border line suicidal tendencies.

Sleep Disorders. Yes, Baam seems to be having a little trouble with this, although it isn't a sure thing, we often see Baam out on the balcony when either everyone else is having fun partying or asleep, staring at the stars.

Anxiety and panic attacks. I'd say that in the least Baam becomes very anxious when it has to do with his friends, or with Rachel. His reactions to Rachel border on panic attacks, and so does his reaction to the Thorn taking its toll on him.

Compulsions or rituals. While Baam may not have any rituals per se, his compulsions over Rachel are extreme and we've seen this since the first season.

Psychotic like symptoms. Voices in his head. Need I say more?

Headache. We've noticed that more and more Baam is suffering from headaches.

Amnesia. We know Baam does have amnesia. He cannot remember how he got into the cave. How long he was there. He doesn't know what his real name is. He cannot remember anything about any kind of life he may have had prior to the cave.

Time Loss. As per his amnesia.

Self Persecution. Baam does torture himself. He does it when he cannot protect someone he cares about. He does it in regard to Rachel.

Self-Sabotage. Baam does this as well. He is so obsessed with Rachel that he doesn't care what kind of harm comes to his body. He will push himself like he did on the Floor of Test until he injures himself.

So. The reason I brought this up? Well... after having read the latest chapters. I've begun to wonder whether or not Baam may be showing the beginning stages of having a split personality. All of the symptoms appear to be ripe for it. So it comes to the question of, is it the ignition system inside of Baam that is causing his psychosis, or is it that Baam is under so much mental stress that he is causing his mind to fracture.

We cannot say it's the Thorn as SIU has stated that the Thorn cannot speak. Which leaves only two real options. It's the Lobster inside of Baam, or Baam is having a psychotic break. Personally... I think I'd rather have it be the devil that is inside of Baam as opposed to him being psychotic, however... if his psychosis would bring back Viole with the long hair. I'm all for it.

Anyways. Thoughts?

Hmm, nice theory. Though I'd like it more if instead of Baam and Viole being two separate personalities, this other personality is actually one that has been dormant all this time, the one that has the memories from before the cave or how he got there, that would be pretty cool, IMO.

Like many others have pointed out in many discussions, leaving in an empty cave all alone isn't really the best spot for your mental health. I am surprised that not more people would not stop and think about the possibility that Baam is the one who is nuts.

It would be a bit of a twist if we're following the villain.

Aren't villians usually defined by their behaviour, though? (As villian protagonist is just as much of an actual thing as hero antagonist is and in plenty of cases, both protagonist and antagonists are both villians as well)

Also ... hobby psychologists should be a bit careful with their diagnosis when it comes to settings with characters that might've other moralities, biologies, cultures and that might actually be artifical lifeforms.

I disagree, as the person who created these characters is a person who comes with the moralities, biologies, cultures and artificial lifeforms of this world and therefore he will rarely derail far off from the moral compasses, biological structures, cultural references and artificialities he is already familiar with. Therefore, while a bit off-target, psychological evaluations from psychologists on characters shouldn't be dismissed.

...Actual psychologists, I mean. Let's not get over our heads here. Ones who are working on their Ph.D or at least Masters.

The above symptoms can be applied to countless other mental disorders with few alterations.

So I agree with Akasha. but on different grounds.

Th point I was trying to express there was that someone is even less likely to correctly guess what's the reason behind these kinds of symptoms actually is. It's somewhat like when reading a cosmic horror story ...

Is Baam is nuts or possessed? I do suspect there's a lot more to the story. Given the heavy emphasis on the Gong Bang and their experiments this season, perhaps it's all alluding to Baam in a way and also to illustrate the Gong Bang also exists outside of the Tower. (Not to mention the part about Hoquim could also be talking about Baam?)

I suspect he's an experiment of the Gong Bang but whatever experiments they were conducting on him stopped, for some reason like his body and mind grew resistant to the changes or the the changes weren't as expected.

I actually wonder if the demon, Baam, Viole all co-exist in his mind together with other personalities.

In the end, I'll just see how SIU goes with the writing? This writer is just soo frustratingly sparse with clues.
