"The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself." -- Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Ok I guess. I don't really know enough about politics to pass judgement either way.
Fizzy drinks?

You know, I highly recommend that you inform yourself about different types of government, the french revolution, the Age of Enlightenment, the (Protestant) Reformation, Feudalism, Serfdom and so on.
A real Democracy should represent the will of the people, you know, people elect representatives which represent their political stance in the government so that their interests get heard and decisions are made in their favour (or you can say they decide, but here it gets complicated) and thus they have the power, the state serves it's people since the people are the state.
Middle Ages in Europe - royals rule and oppress and exploit people, legitimized by themselves and/or the church -> By the Grace of God, ruling is a divine right -> people hardly could go against it, since going against it would be like going against god and anyway, the royals and church had all the power and made the laws, as you can see
Reformation -> split the church, probably set the gears in motion for the next points, people were fed up with the church abusing it's power and leading religion ad absurdum and so on
Enlightment -> More educated people encouraged the average Joe to use his brain and not to accept the normal for him yoke from the royals, thoughts about 'democracy' and secularism, question(s) about the (non)existance of God
Immanuel Kant also wrote a response, referring to Enlightenment as "man's release from his self-incurred tutelage", tutelage being "man's inability to make use of his understanding without direction from another".[7] "For Kant, Enlightenment was mankind's final coming of age, the emancipation of the human consciousness from an immature state of ignorance."[8] According to historian Roy Porter, the thesis of the liberation of the human mind from the dogmatic state of ignorance that he argues was prevalent at the time is the epitome of what the age of enlightenment was trying to capture.

French Revolution... And the French king head goes 'chop'.
.... (fast forward)
And _later_ we managed to get more or less functioning democracies, some went to Shit like Weimar Republic after the first World War due to various problems (you know it got overtaken by the Nazis who started WW2)... Today we still have problems, censorship, Lobbying, generally corrupt politicians, politicians (not) really doing what the people want and so on... A benevolent dictator who is also competent might be better than a shitty democracy. I could mention even more stuff like ancient Athenians/Greeks used, in the Classical antiquity (probably more than 2.5K years ago), pottery shards with carved letters to vote and so on.
Education is important to understand the world (around you), all of us would only produce shit, understand shit and go all ooga-booga without education, it's probably the most important good we have.

Underrated, though I feel like Reuben Sandwiches are the one and only reason for it's existence.
Reuben Sandwiches?
While I genuinely do appreciate the lesson. (I greatly enjoy history.) I've always been of the belief that trying to follow politics is basically a job in and of itself. I feel like looking at the topic skin deep is even more ignorant than ignoring, and the truth of the mater is I'd much rather be spending my time working, hanging out with my family, or studying far more practical topics than trying to look past the 'skin' of politics. For example, I don't mean to offend but even the bit you just shared with seems extremely one sided and biased.
So in conclusion, I think the choice to not vote is a more responsible one than voting because 'this guy has a nice smile, and he says he's against war.'

Overrated. Granted I'm not much of a music person. She sounds like she has a great voice and everything, but don't all successful singers?
