Salem

Cave Axl
Day 3

Salem crept through the underbrush following the lead of Din and Jett, watching the fidgetty excitement of the first goblin. He listened to the surroundings, hearing faint cries of wildlife in the distance.

At the sound of a high-pitch whisper like hiss of stop, the entire party turned and looked at the quiet little goblin Fhul. Her eyes wide, she cocked her head repeatedly to the side. Five pairs of eyes followed her motions. Crabs lay in the sunlight resting their bellies on morning breakfast. Now they in turn would be breakfast.

Sen waved his hands for the group to clutter around him. Drawing in the dirt, he told the group to circle around their prey. Rocks, too. Smart, but rocks probably wouldn't be enough. Eight legs are more than two.

As the group started to spread out, Salem motioned for Fhul to follow. He picked up a couple of broken branches and tried to stab forward with them. Weak things that would not so much damage, but enough to funnel the crabs together. Handing a stick to Fhul, he spoke:

"Push crabs to Din. We group many then." Walking away, he turned back, "Good job seeing. We eat good this morning." Now they would only wait for Sen's signal.

Kor -- Cave Daria

Kor and his party had found the proper materials to build a cage, but before returning to the cave, Gric found more food. He was good at that. Kor's mind went to work immediately and he concocted another plan to kill the armored tanukis; he was sure Bren and Kie would appreciate the shells as well. Kor was, however, holding the stoat still, so he would require the others to do most of the work.

"Surround them," Kor whispered. "Quiet, quiet!"

Once the four goblins had taken position in the forest around the tanukis, Kor himself would appear from the front and throw a rock at them. His plan was to scare them right into the others' waiting arms. Once they had gotten a hold of them, Kor would take the horn they took from the rabbit and stab both of them.

Lorcan

Day 3: Cave Daria

It was less of a fight, and more of an execution.

Lorcan didn’t mind, but he was a little worried their luck may make his subordinates cocky. However, the somber silence of the others as they ate the dead fawn disavowed him of that notion. An important lesson was learnt with this recent victory. He was thankful that Fera took the initiative earlier and took the first step in eating.

Frankly, the concept of death didn’t concern him. He considered the execution of the Alpha Spiked Wolf under his responsibility even if Fera dealt the killing blow and understood that their life was always a matter of survival. It was never going to be fun and games. That was why he was developing tactics in order to ease the burden of a single goblin. By acting as a pack, they would be able to overcome any challenges that they would face.

Minus the monsters that could kill them all in a single blow naturally.

He ate the Crowned Stag meat, saving five portions of it by gathering it in the fawn pelt. Lorcan planned to save those for the goblins in the cave. They would be happy and would become eager to help him and his subordinates in any way they can. He knew that each goblin was different, and therefore that meant not all goblins would be skilled in hunting. This could mean that they have other skills or talents that Lorcan or the others may not have.

Lorcan smelled three unfamiliar scents in the air and also the scent of a Crowned Stag. For now he decided to follow the scent that would lead them a little deeper into the forest. Ever since he left the cave he was mapping out the area in his head. He needed to know the lay of the land if they were going to go out hunting again later on.

“Alright, let’s go,” he told the others, urging them to end their break. They were going to travel the same positions as last time. It seemed to be an effective formation so far.

Kor -- Cave Daria

Just like their last meal, Kor divvied up the spoils and shared some of his with the stoat. This time, the stoat seemed to respond much better to it; it ate gratefully from Kor's hand and in spite of its wound seemed happier than before. It no longer tried to run away. The five goblins decided to name it, and the others thought Lou was a good name. Kor didn't really care what the name was, so he went with that. Once its wounds healed, he would take it hunting, and soon enough the five of them would be rolling in rabbit pelts.

Keeping some of the tanuki meat for later that day, Kor decided that they should make their way back to their cave.

Lorcan

Day 3: Cave Daria

It was a King Stag! It looked like an adult version of the fawn they had just eaten. Unfortunately, it also looked strong, and Lorcan knew they lost the element of surprise. He wanted to kill it, but it could just as easily run away or attack them. He had to think quickly.

Lorcan told Ros, Woll, and Rae to stay put until conflict begins. This was an operation for him and Fera. They weren’t skilled enough for what he planned.

“Follow me while hiding,” he whispered to Fera.

As Fera disappeared into the brush, Lorcan casually meandered to the edge of the pond and took a few sips of water. Occasionally, he would look up and observe the King Stag, taking measures not to make eye contact with the beast. Lorcan moved along the pond to get closer to the stag, neither too fast that it appeared to be rushing it or too slow that it appeared he was stalking prey. No, Lorcan tried to match the King Stag at its casual speed.

He stopped once more, avoiding the pond’s edge now and going over to a grass that was a little bit longer. Lorcan plucked a few grass strands, mimicking the stag as it drank and ate. The small goblin band leader moved in a zigzag fashion towards the King Stag. Sometimes he would go back to the pond and take a drink and then next he would move over to a push or grass to make it look like he was grazing.

As Lorcan slowly approached, he kept wary of the King Stag and was more than prepared to run if it showed signs of aggression. He remained calm and stoic. He was a leader, after all. He couldn’t allow the others to see him looking fearful. Lorcan also kept the grass he plucked—it was his plan to feed the beast if it allowed him to get close, thus lulling it to a false sense of security. If successful, Fera should be in a position to make a strike. In addition, the extra time in observing it would help him find a weak point that he could take advantage of.

This was a hunt now, not an execution.

SNARF

Cave Daria

Snarf looked at the golden food. She was envious. The food had some sort of pointy giant teeth poking out. Their own mouths had become weaponized. If only Snarf had the same she would be unstoppable. Instead she had to use her wits to hunt. It was appalling.

She gave Archie some vague directions about scaring them from the back. He didn't look convinced but moved when she glared at him. To make sure he wouldn't chicken out she sent backup in the form of Crey. Two would work better than one anyway.

Snarf stepped into the open and stared at the porkchops. She wanted them to see their demise before it came to them. She crouched low and held her pointy stick out in front of her. When the other gobbies scared them they would go for Snarf since she was the one they were looking at. And then she would stop their charge with a thrust! Speedy stick plus speedy boar would make speedy lunch!

Pip

Cave Axl

Day 3

Hmm, that didn't do much of anything thought Pip, though it let him know that those snake weren't easily distracted, but that wasn't going to stop him.

Pip decided to stay cautious and to keep trying stuff from a distance, at least for now. He looked around and gathered up ten pretty big rocks, and since the snakes are hard to distract he used another rock to chip at the one he had found, so that they were all pretty sharp and pointed. He looked up sometimes to make sure had hadn't caught the attention of the snakes.

Once he was done with the rocks he looked behind himself to make sure he had an escape route in case things went not so right. Seeing a clear path, he got ready and glanced down at his pointy stick to make sure it was close in case he needed it.

Balancing lightly on the balls of his feet he picked up one of the sharp rocks with each hand and pulled his arm back back ready to throw, Letting his arm get all loosey goosey, he got that s**t like a whip, and hurled the rock as best he could at the snakes stupid head.

Cave Axl

Day 3

Pip saw his chance and was all over it. He quickly chucked the other rock at the snake then started picking up and hurling the rest too, except for one rock.

Dropping into a crouch he pick up the last rock and the stick, and paused to see how much damage he had done before he cautiously advanced on the snake. He was breathing a little harder after his rock throwing frenzy and he could feel his heart racing, but he was weary of other snakes, so he kept glancing at the other vines before quickly returning his gaze to his prey.

He had the stick ready to poke the snake from a little away and the rock poised to smash it's head in.

Pip

Cave Axl

Day 3

Pip was caught off guard, but lucky he'd been expecting the vines to attack him the whole time , so he kept a tight grip on his weapons.

Doing what he thought was the best thing he could think of, he pulled the stick in under his arm while still gripping it and pointed the the pointy end forward, so that if the snake wanted to wrap around him it would have to impale itself on his stick.

He lifted the sharp rock, that was covered in the blood of the other snake, and with adrenaline fueled fervor began to doggedly drill the sharpest point of the rock into the side of the snake, grunting a little with the effort.

Pip took a deep breath and held it, so that he could devote all of his energy and effort into killing this thing before it killed him.

Nana

Cave Axl

Day 3

With caution now thrown into the wind much like his original plan, Nana was free to laugh loudly at the developments. They weren't necessarily good developments, but something different had happened which was amazing in its own way. Nana had never rode anything before, and this Spiderant Eater was remarkably comfy compared to the cave's rocks, Spiderants below included. If not for the gurgling of his belly, and likely these creatures own hunger, he could of spent the day atop this mount. However, in Gnarlroot, filling bellies was always the first order of business. Though perhaps at the end of today there wouldn't be quite so many bellies filled.

Even while Nana delighted in his excitement, he doubted his two goblin compatriots were quite as happy. Especially Kars, with his funny face for everything. Even from his tenuous position, Nana knew he had to do something to focus them again. Switching his length of vine to one hand and pulling as mightily as could muster, he reached out to Ques with an outstretched hand, beckoning him down.

"Jump here! Help pull down! We eat them on ground!" Nana said as he locked his legs around the Spider-Ant Eaters front legs. "Kars, scaredy goblin! If want eat, be ready to smash!" Nana was by no means intelligent, but even he understood that prey sometimes eats predator, and those Spider-Ants were ready to eat something after their wild ride. And that would be their best chance to smash all the itty bitty bugs into itty bitty snacks, with an ooey gooey Eater in the middle. They just had to bring the Eater down to their level.

Goblin Rot - Cave Daria

Day 3

Rot looked onto the meatthings with the shiny yellow teeth.  Truly, with such incredible teeth they must stand out and be the center of attention where ever they went.  He wanted them.  If his teeth glowed with such vigor nobody would ever look away.  Yes, he would help Snarf take down these majestic monsters and most likely eat them afterwards.  How would he kill them?  He wasn't very certain.  Sure he had the awesome power of the noxious clouds but he wasn't really sure how to use it all that well.  Rot did still have his red rock of hurt.  That would probably be his tool of destruction.

While Snarf prepared her followers Char looked to Rot expectantly which was both annoying and oddly exciting.  Rot had the best plan.  There seemed to be another of the golden toothed lovelies rummaging about in the nearby bushes.  Well, he wasn't totally sure if it was it.  It seemed the right size but he couldn't really get a great look.  it didn't matter.  Rot told Char to use her super feminine fire powers on any bush that moved that didn't house a goblin like the one he was pointing at.  He held Char back though until Snarf's plan was already in full swing.

Rot for his part planned to attack the babies and thus earn the respect of the elders.  They may try and stop him but hopefully while they were distracted Snarf could slay them with the stick that stabs.

Pip

Cave Axl

Day 3

Pip lies there in a daze for a second, but only for a second. Rolling over he picks himself up off the ground and grabs his stick and rock. Reading for battle he looks around and found that the snake that had attack him was gone. Breathing a sigh of relief he enters a slight crouch and returns to the task at hand.

Slowly approaching the snake he had killed, or, he pauses and wonders, at least he thinks he killed it. He was sore and weary, but still very wary off this jungle, so he wasn't going to take any chances and he wasn't gonna spend anymore time here then he had to.

Lifting his stick so that he could make a hard jab with it, he got closer to the snake. Hefting the rock for a downward slam to smash the snakes stupid head for the last time.

Glancing around to make sure there weren't anymore snakes and to make sure his escape route was clear. Reassured he turned back to his prey and his breakfast.

Cave Axl, Day 3

The plan worked surprisingly well. Once cornered the crabs could offer no real resistance and stayed within the cage of goblin bodies as Jett tried to open crabs by prodding at them with his rock. When Din began to juggle crabs Sen thought it was amusing and joined in. Most of the time he did it the crabs ended up slipping his grasp, but watching the crabs bounce across the jungle floor was fun in its own way. Sen even started rolling crabs to watch them bounce unevenly into their siblings in the clearing, laughing all the while. Finally, Jett found just the right spot to crack a crab open and everyone cheered. But the small sound of that crab opening was met by the much larger sound of its much larger counterpart coming out of the jungle. It stood nearly the height of a goblin and clicked it pincers menacingly at Jett, who still held the crab in his palm.

Sen may have only been three days old, but he knew a leader when he saw one. This crab was the hobgoblin to the littler crab's goblins, and it was here to protect the children. Unlike the littler crabs this one looked like it could put up a fight, and Sen knew he was the one who should deal with it. Leaders fought leaders, and out in the wilderness he was the leader. So like any good leader he snuck into the surrounding jungle.

While the hobcrab was focused on the others who kept the crabs in place Sen got behind it. With a running start he jumped and scrabbled his way on top of the hobcrab. The little crabs were too small to get even a small rock in their eyes, but the hobcrab was too big to do anything else. With a woop of joy and a wide grin Sen stabbed his sharp rock into the hobcrab's eyeholes.
