I think his curse is related to the riddle about what walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening. If I'm right yay, if I'm not oh well.

You do realize the answer to that riddle is "Man" right? Which would mean he's an ordinary man. I'm with the other guy... his curse is probably related to werewolves in some way, given the way that his personality changed once he saw the full moon.

Uh I'm pretty sure his curse is the same as it is in Arthurian Legend. He's the child of a giant and a human, from midnight till noon he becomes stronger, then from noon to midnight he becomes weaker.
This explains why Melodius was pleased that they got there just after midnight so Escanor would only be getting stronger.

"Escanor" is the Gawain of Arthurian Legends
Pretty sure That 'Sir Gawain the Courteous' and 'Escanor the Large' are different characters, They do have the same power and were born at the same time, so I can understand how you could make that mistake.
