I know a lot of people may think thatHide is related to the clowns or the to the Washuu family, however, I have my own theory about him.
What if he’s related to Ukina? I say this for a few reasons.
One, Hide is basically a blank slate. All we have to go off of is his name, and his personality traits.
So I’m going to start with his personality traits in comparison to Ukina.
First and for most, they both are very upbeat, kind and no matter what supportive. We see the way they both care for the ones they love, and that everlasting bond they have even through the most toughest of times. We also see that sacrafices they are willing to make for the ones they love.
I mean, it wasn’t even a question of whether or not Ukina was going to eat human mean when she found out Yoshimaru was a ghoul. She completely tarnished her humanity for the sake of “their” happiness.
Hide nearly risked his life on multiple occasions various times when he was searching for Kaneki.
And this also brings me to something else.
They are both very accepting of the ones they love being ghouls. I mean, just look at how they don’t care, and how both Yoshimaru and Kaneki aren’t expecting such a reaction.
They both genuinely love their ghouls, and not even the nature of them being ghouls ruins that bond. Ukina and Hide see Kaneki and manager as people they love.
On a more ‘negative’, trait, they both harbor intuition, and because of that, are both very manipulative and deceptive.
But in the end, Ukina didn’t betray Yoshimaru, nor did Hide turn his back on Kaneki. And a side note for Ukina, despite the fact that she was tracking the V organization, she had no idea Yoshimaru was affilated with the V organization until later on. Kind of like Hide had no idea that Kaneki was affilated with Anteiku until later on.
They both, despite the danger they’re putting themselves in, care for their ghouls unconditionally. They are both humans that accepted ghouls, which is what really sets them a part.
So moving along…this may explain why Hide knows so much about ghouls. I have a itch that maybe, Ukina could’ve been his aunt.
Remember she had a diary that she wrote stuff in about Organization V. I have a feeling that she also wrote other things to, maybe facts about ghouls. If Ukina is Hide’s aunt, then it would’ve made sense if her brother, or sister (either Hide’s mother or father), got some writings after she died, maybe spare journals? I know Eto has the original diary. Hide could’ve gotten a hold of some things at a point and started reading about ghouls from what Ukina wrote.
She was a journalist, which meant that she liked to snoop out stories, find clues, look for facts, search for answers….kind of like a detective. Hide is called the ‘amateur’, detective is he not? Her writings could’ve influenced his urge for wanting to be a detective and also, his love for reading books that deal with mystery?
Lastly, I want of focus on Hide’s name. Which is Hideyoshi Nagachika.
Hideyoshi, and Yoshimaru.
Okay, I’m pretty sure that Ukina may’ve mentioned Yoshimaru’s name in her writings. Though he was Kuzen, maybe Yoshimaru was his last name?
It has ‘Yoshi’ in it. Maybe Hide’s mom or dad wanted to honor Yoshimaru or something like that, or pass down the name to Hide.
So, they took the “Yoshi” part and combined it with “Hide”. It would make sense if Ukina and Hide’s parents were close. Since I’m pretty sure Yoshimaru fled afterwards, they probably figured he was dead. So they put Yoshi in Hide’s name to honor both of them.
Also, we don’t know Ukina’s maiden name. It could very well be Nagachika.
This is just something I thought of, and it may not be canon, but it’s fun to ponder on, right? Please tell me what you think?
And one last thing. When Hide went looking for Kaneki during the Anteiku raid, there were aogiri ghouls around. Wouldn’t it be easy for them to kill him?
Maybe Eto, knowing who he was, told them not to. Just food for thoughts.
