I was thinking if Uta has something to do with Rize's accident or if he's in cahoots with the Aogiri Tree. If he's the leader of Pierrot, then wouldnt there be a chance of him ordering Souta to kill Rize? If he has something to do with it, why he would he? I wonder if Yomo is oblivious or have an idea to whatever they're scheming..

Just a thought, what do you guys think?

As far as I can tell, Pierrot seems to be the kind of organization that infiltrates the others (Aogiri and Anteiku, in this case) observes and/or manipulates according to their goals. What those goals may be? Who knows? But I'd think their existence is supposed to be a secret kind of like the V group, since I don't think the manager or the aogiri leaders would've been too kind on letting spies and potential backstabbers hang out with them.

I would hope Yomo knows about them more than others, but isn't on their side. Since he knows Uta from way back, but might not agree with their objectives (whatever they are). But it's really just wishful thinking on my part.

I agree. Anteiku and Aogiri are smart organization. They are not supposed to let spy just leave and go. I think both of the organization know it already? That is why they let Pierrot roam around, as long as they are helping them with certain situation.

Their goal maybe is to have the last laugh.

They probably do it for one of the most evil scenario.... Do it for fun...

Looks like they are free organization. They are willing to help if they gain something entertaining, probably.

Man, since the first time I see Satou and Nico with their slogan, I love them already.

I agree with this random guy from Wikia about The Pierrot.

1: Dumped the bars on Rize, resulting in turning Kaneki into a one-eyed ghoul.

Just because it was fun.

2: Uta gave him the mask and planted the affection for Touka in his mind with his cryptic questions while taking measurments for the mask. Triggering Kaneki to take up the fight and go against Amon, losing control of himself and break down the first time afterwards. By default, they´re responsible for Mado´s death and Touka´s guilt as she realized that she killed someone with a familiy that would grieve him. Amon lost Mado and we all saw the response there.

Just as a prank.

3: Gave him info about Rize and sent him in Tsukiyama´s direction for the purpose of "gathering information of the ghoul resturant", despite knowing all about it already and just to set him up, triggering the gourmet incident that one of their members watched and reported back to the others. Kaneki tried to protect the other hostages but got kicked in the back as a reward and failed to save the ungrateful people that was thrown in the lion´s den with him. Result, Kaneki lost faith in mankind and got the stalker Tsukiyama after him.

Another good laugh at Kaneki´s expense.

4: Handed over Yamori to the CCG before the events of the series where he was tortured and turned him into "Jason", the sadistic psychopath that tortured Kaneki and broke his mind. If Pierrot hadn´t existed, then Yamori would have just been a ordinary guy and "Jason" would have never came to be. No Jason, no torture of Kaneki and he would still been a idealistic kid. By default, the Pierrot are responsible for the events that happened to Kaneki during Aogiri Tree arc. And Nico, one of their members, was watching the whole thing and reported back to the others.

All for shit and giggles.

5. Nico provided Kaneki with information that brought him to Dr-Kanou´s laboratory, where Kaneki found Rize who been a true victim for the Pierrot´s first prank and reduced to a shell of her former self. There, Kaneki´s mind broke a third time as he went completely bat-shit insane from gaining a half-kakuja, almost lost himself to the madness, nearly became a murderer and as a final act, attacked the few people he dedicated himself to protect, if not for Banjo, he would have been torn down mentally then and there.

Another good laugh at his expense.

6. Uta gives Kaneki info about his past and the Reaper of the CCG, Arima. carving in the impression Kaneki will have towards the reaper as the two of them met up in the sewers. Kaneki broke down mentally again and this time, he never recovered from the mental and physical strain his curbstomp "battle" with Arima put him through. Recall that Kaneki had a really odd impression of Arima when they first saw each other, if he hadn´t known about Arima before that, he wouldn´t have been sent into melancholy and despair as he did and he could have stood a better chance since he had become one of the most powerful ghouls in the setting at this point.

The Pierrot gave him a choice though... one he never heard of but it was somewhat like this: "Live so we can pull more pranks on you, or go and die and the prank will end here."

Of course, the Pierrot never expected him to try and save Yoshimura but they laughed Kaneki´s demise off anyway, marking the end of the massive "prank" they pulled on the poor kid over the story.

The result of this final prank? Tsukiyama is in a angst coma, Nishiro was forced to break up with Kimi since CCG invaded the territory, Amon got captured by Aogiri Tree along with a lot of investigators and the manager, Juuzou lost Shinohara and a leg, Shinohara entered a coma he will never wake up from, Takizawa died, Akira lost both a close friend and Amon who she cared deeply for, Touka lost Kaneki and Antieku... Hinami, Banjo and the trio lost Kaneki and is wandering aimlessly around... Kaneki might have been turned into Armia´s quince as Ixa´s replacement and CCG changed their objective to "annihilation of ghouls" killing all their prisoners that they already got their hands on.

And at the end of this "prank" that they pulled on Kaneki´s life and everyone around them, they just laugh it off and prepares for the next prank that can entertain their boredom for some more time.

This is their involvement from what I can tell and they have been stringing Kaneki along like a puppet for no other reason but their amusement.

Uta is "the Joker"...

They are in it for fun. The name Pierrot( a stock-character to is a foolish prankster) and their conversation were Roma said that she "Wanted to see a more depressing scene", and Uta's reference to Tragedies not being popular(this was probably also the author acknowledging that the readers weren't happy with a tragic end) make it sound like they are "setting the stage" for events to happen in a theatrical sense.

There is also the fact that they sent Kaneki into the Restaurant thing to "learn about it", but if you look back you see that they already had a member of Pierrot in the establishment.

They probably have no affiliation with AT or V, and are just a group of ghoul who fancy themselves spectators.

I'm going to agree that the Pierrot is bad, but... i'll use the tarot symbolism and the words used to describe 'the world' at the end of 143 to do so.

If the Pierrot is meant to mean "The joker", then the best view point of the Pierrot is as that of "The Fool".
In tarot, The Fool is the begining. Trust in fate, or disregard of personal safety, is a defining feature of The Fool, but there's a certain acknowledgement that The Fool starts the story.

Which follows with the going on in the story.

If the fool reaches the end of the journey, he has travelled "The World", the 21st card of the tarot, and usually has mastered it to some degree.

The Pierrot are framed with the number 21 in chapter 140, page 13-ish.
Through out the series, from what i've seen of Uta, I've thought he represented the world card, and, if he was the leader of the Pierrot, it'd make sense.

The thing here is Ishida specifically says "The World is Wrong." in chapter 143. So.... by Ishida's own narrative, the pierrot is a bunch of psychos.
