after reading the last chapter, could it be that that happened in Death note? I mean that L had to die?

I think it would've been less interesting if he hadn't. It extends the plot by having Light triumph over L only to have lost by the surpassed 2nd L.
Anyways Elji's plot is different though....... the antagonist died right in the beginning, serving as an interesting plot twist.

@Saphsin: In the top left panel of p.20 in ch.159 it shows that he thinks he might have dropped it while riding the roller coaster. So I don't think he'll be searching any ferris wheel cars. ^^
Though I have no clue what the author is planning on having him do next. At this point it's anyone's guess, but we'll find out in only a week's time fortunately.

oh, I was reading it really fast before leaving for school so I missed that -.-
