Are you sure Google Fonts aren't blocked or something? I believe this theme uses Open Sans font from Google Fonts. Anyway, "~" looks fine here.

Although I dunno if you actually didn't like how this font display that character. I mean, I personally think that this font's "~" doesn't differ much with that font's (the one you used as example). Thus, it made me doubt that you were actually on the same font as me.

it displays it correctly when I change the font~ ... thats why I thought it must be because of the font~ ...

edit for your edit: no, it doesnt display it like a wave, but like a straight line, so its not that I dont like the way it is displayed, its simply displayed wrong~ ...

Well, that's why I asked if you sure that Google Fonts weren't blocked or something. Just like some other themes I know, this theme probably loads Open Sans font from Google Fonts (ain't gonna bother to check). So basically, if that service was blocked, the font wouldn't load.

Try to visit the mentioned URL manually, if you can't, then it's probably blocked by something. It can be an extension, hosts file, your DNS/ISP, etc.

I can visit that link just fine and I get the same thing as him: the tilde character on his posts ends up looking like a dash. The REALLY weird part is that in the editor, the tilde shows up fine...

Edit: Yeah, I'm confused. Still looks like a dash on the site, but in the editor it is DEFINITELY a tilde. huh.

Edit 2: Messed with the CSS a bit, all of the other fonts (including sans-serif using my preferred font) display the tilde correctly. Maybe it's something to do with the size of the font? test: ~

Edit 3: The size test seems to have been a success. For some reason, the font turns a tilde that's too small into a dash. And for some really messed up reason, that "too small" size is like, 14...

Edit 4 (wow, so many): quotes seem to have no trouble displaying really small tildes. This is hurting my brain. Stupid fonts. GRUMPY, USE SOMETHING ELSE!! (I suggest either "Clear Sans" by Intel or "DejaVu Sans")

Open sans turns ~(tilde) into -(dash/minus) at font size 13px.  Changing the size to 12 turns it into this ~. size 14 turns it into ~.  10 and lower also turn the tilde into this ~.

 

My suggestion would be to change the default font size from 13px to 14px within the subway skin itself providing it doesn't make everything look too weird.  But even then I am unsure if it will actually apply properly.  I'm still a big fan of Helvetica which is why I've stuck with Sylo

Blue is so overused these days.

its to do with psychology. Blue is a stimulating colour to humans and keeps them alert and awake. It's also an easy colour to see. Hence many social networking sites use it like Twitter, FB, tumblr, LinkdIn etc? I remember this documentary said blue can be a colour for mass consumption and addiction. Hence night clubs use blue to get customers to buy more. hmm...

 

maybe that was Grumpy's plan all along. he just plans to turn everyone into his followers creating a large internet-based kingdom! D:

okay, I got it work for me now thanks to antisolar~ ...

 

everything else I forgot to mention is like Daktyl and JRave here so kindly described~ ...

 

but when I block the font with AdBlock on Firefox everything seems to be displayed properly~ ... for me at least~ ...

Anti made this screenshot to explain me how he did it, its in french, but I think it should be clear what we did with this~ ...

I think best would be to go with Daktyl´s suggestion to simply use a better font rather than this one to have a clear solution that works for everyone~ ...

It looks alright on me despite of the size though.

Though 8px barely looks like a tilde.

The site has a default font size of 13 which isn't an option in font drop down box for posts.

 

That said in your post 10 doesn't look like a Tilde in the first set.  You are using the Subway skin right?  As it looks normal in Sylo.

Oh darn. Helvetica looks awful when I compare it with Open Sans. Meh.. whatever, I'll just use Open Sans with Stylish..
