Does anyone else not like The Gamer as much as i do? i dont even really understand why its so popular.

Dont get me wrong. I love the Gamer ability BUT thats really it. I dont care much for the characters and the plot is almost non existent. I've waited patiently for something big to happen but all he does is get OP skills with minimal training. Its really just like watching someone grind all day on a video game,

I still read it when it updates but im slowly starting really dislike The Gamer.

Any thoughts?

not disagreeing with you about that.

Else i'm actually watching someone discovering it's ability, i don't dislike that but, one either focus on development and applications of discovered abilities in a meaningful and stimulating way, which is something i like or drive the plot onward and have the character adapt to the stressful situation he's in.

It's going a really casual gamer way, Carefree would be more exact which is strange as slavery, murder, extorsion, complex and old organisation are in the background, but in a sense it reflect the character of the protagonist who doesn't really put much thought into things and see only the point of his nose or feel like a genius every time he realize he has a belly, feets or eyes to see..... What i also don't like it feels like he's a casual player chick who tries an mmo with all the geek guys in big guilds around giving him freebies to help her in the foolish point to gain points with her.....(just think the crossgender part if you're more at ease with it) i mean "nearly" everytime he gets the easy way out, i understand he act foolish and doesn't try to find subtle application, hiding skills, make plan and strategy if he doesn't have to.

but i accept it as that the state of the manga is Jee han centered, thus what you see and feel is how jeehan feel the world. give one of us this ability, put him in the same place in the same condition with the same friends but have our personality and way of thinking, sure the naration, focus (story/celf-centered,...) and level of gruesomeness would be a lot more different.

to resume what i'd want: assume the self-centered development, put a lot of thought into it and for three chapter give us a PROPER rise of jeehan whitout overlooking something he will do (like a shonen training manga)the at the end say "okay i synthetised it i'll do that every night after school" so we really know what he'd do every night and don't need to see fillers and then start the story (quest if you prefer, prevent wars, save people from a curse he himself released in self redemption, whatever float your boat)

I agree. And it isnt even like he grinds well; his grnding infuriates me. 40 weeks/releases later, and he only starts grindingg his stats? Pfft...
Every week i hope for a meaningful development, and every week i am disappointed.

Ideally, i would like to see the point of view to change; dont show me jihan's training. Follow sung-ah or yunhonmoon girl for a few weeks and give us a better understanding of this "ability user world". Let jihan show up empowered after a few weeks and we can see all of his progress suddenly rather than tracking it via watching him grind.
1) Actually advances plot.
2) gives us alternative perspectives into the motivating factors and struggles of other characters and factions/clans. This would probably be a much more convenient way to inform the readers than having another character spoon feed the information to Jihan, like we have seen to date.
3) dont have to watch jihan grind, the creator fuck up characters' stat math, nor jihan's inability to fully utilize/optimize/abuse his skill-set.

I would expect to get an insight into yunhonmoon, black summoner + sung-ah, perhaps even his parents. Then there is grandpa Chunbu, perhaps seeing some of the political motivations which guide him + interclan strife, and get some action from the witch of slaughter, by which we can use to gauge the overall skill of other ability users! So many other key players the comic could follow, if even briefly.
I wouldn't want to follow jihan again until after we see him pass his test, but from the perspective yunhon girl, who likely does poorly if she doesn't cheat. And only after another big confrontation, where we can then see jihan's leap in progress involving several key players, will we follow Jihan again
Just before we follow jihan again, get everyones' thoughts/ambitions on how jihan 's existence effects the current power struggle/balance. (Chunbu/yunhon clans, "un-whatever" sorcerer, black summoner, and etc). Ie: threatens their position, strengthens it, or they label him and enemy and seek to eliminate, etc. and where everyone stands is made clear to readers, but not necessarily Jihan.
Then resume Jihan post-altercation + training, praising himself for his progress. "I am a god! Bwa ha ha ha!"

Exactly! they talk about slaves, blackmarkets, etc. which would be awesome to explore.. yet we find ourselves watching him training. And its not like there are any surprises to his powers because we've been following his growth in such detail. IF he ever gets into a real fight it would have already lost its lustre. I already know everything he is capable of

Yes. The fights are another disappointment. IE - jihan "rescues" black summoner's daughter; such a pitiful display of his potential/abilities.

Leaving jihan alone for a few releases would give him room to grow. And we dont have to watch him run for 400 hour intervals.

That's what I have been fearing for some time. I still have hope but it is lacking some plot development. They have many possibilities available but the author only touchs the surface of the topics.

There are no goals, no life threatening situations. He needs a real enemy. Someone with a power similar to his or at least someone with a lv high enough to make him sweat! He didn't have any worthy adversaries until now. Everything has been too easy!

The author needs to focus a little bit and creat some arc...

Other thing that I forget to mention. All classes, abilities or whatever normally have some limitations or even advantages... Which ones are his?

Until now he have a God-like ability...

Agonal points are great! Especially liked the alternative perspective. We could know a little bit more about the other characters.

We don't really know many things about other ability users powers or classes...

I agree with those points, I gave up a while ago since it's nothing but training, training, training and nothing else. No plot, no change, nothing. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this and I have no idea why it is still popular. I mean this thing had potential but instead he sits around getting Gary-Sued. We know nothing about other people except his green haired friend. The girls are also stereotypical and blank. Not to mention the author seems really into the math and his power levels rather than the plot. Fanfiction is better than canon sometimes, especially these days.

The way i see, the current plot is how strong he can became in the period of 3 months, and how is he gonna be training to became that strong... Remind that is the slaughter witch that is providing this moments of peace, all because of black devil's summoner contract/will. Mean while the author is probably thinking on the next arc of history, so yeah the history is gonna have a twist. My opinion :P

am i missing something? who is the Slaughter witch? what contract/will? i dont think this was ever explained in the story.

also its been 40+ chapters without any real hint of an actual arc. doesnt the author know anything about grabbing the audiences attention right off the bat?

That is my point. We have characters introduced and forgotten just as quickly. And all for the sake of watching Jihan's endlessly disappointing grinding tactics. A mere 6ish pages dedicated to just the witch n partner of the 49 chapters released. Such potentially intriguing characters and storylines lost...

That isnt a plot, friend. And you cannot have a twist without an actual storyline.

For example, we do not know anything about his parents. If it is suddenly revealed that his parents work for this evil slavery corporation, it isnt a twist, but an epicly late introduction. If, however, they had already been introduced and shown repeatedly as a loving family with wholesome values, then the sudden development that they worked for this shady business would be a "twist".

The author needs to lay down some storyline-foundation before there can ever be a future development.

Okay... yeah this isn't a plot, that is why a said "in my opinion", here is what a meant by that: i agree that there is no history, but IF THE LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS make a lemonade! Looking at the chapters this is what is happening, i am ok with that, for now, in the future i want more, and that is what a meant when a said something about a twist (making a history, when isn't a history is kind of a twist :P).

you see i actually like the series, that is why a answered the topic, because i wanna make the author of the topic see more, and continue to read...

but you are right the correct use of the words "plot" and "twist" isn't the ones that i use (English isn't my mother language :P)

I agree with just about every criticism of this comic. I even have a few more that I won't bother to add, but In spite of its downfalls, The Gamer is still one of the comics I most look forward to every week.

For me it's a love hate relationship. I love the concept and the potential. The way he learns skills make his options in life limitless. He really could become anything he wanted to be. I hate the way the author is squandering this comic's awesome potential. At the rate he's going it's will be chapter 150 before the story really starts.

IMHO it's the immense potential this story has that keeps me and so many others reading every week. We just keep hoping and hoping that the author actually starts developing the plot.

I feel the same. I gave it a month, if the next chapters don't change then for me it's over. I don't dislike training, but his is so stupid that I can't stand it, it's not like hunterxhunter or other awesome manga where the training was enjoyable, it's unbearable. And I'm seriously starting to hate the author, since he had a good idea but doesn't seem to have the capacity to develop it.

That saying isn't really relevent. "Life gives you lemons..." Is same as saying, "in every problem lies opportunity," or making the best of a bad situation. I see neither opportunity, nor a silver lining to this disappointing storyline.

The reason for my opinion is that chapter 50 has just been released. given about 1 week per release, delays aside, it has been released for going on a year; in truth, i am sure longer than that. In that time, to my annoyance, there has been virtually zero development. Jihan is just as clueless, and we are dragged down with him in his cluelessness.
As others have mentioned, i grow increasingly impatient and frustrated with this author for ruining a good concept, which is what drew me and others to the comic, with his ineptitude. I am tired of waiting for something to happen. It should have happened long ago!I keep reading, week after disappointing week, for a relevant development - which has still yet to happen.

I appreciate your feelings for this comic, but It is not your responsibility to make others want to continue reading the comic; it is the author's.

Ok, this is true... on the other hand, a plot takes its course in chapter 50, so i really think the author reads the forum ^^

The 2 most attractive aspects of this manhwa versus others is:

1. The Comedy (Including facial expressions)

2. The Concept of What if I got this ability in real life. (It is what separated it from others)

I am sure most people have read One Piece here.

I like the beginning of One Piece much more than the current chapters because of Comedy.

Luffy had so much more character than he does now. Before he acted cool and more like a pirate: Kicking someones balls or making speeches, relying on Zorro to protect his back etc... Now he is just an idiot.

The further "The Gamer" progresses into a plot, the more serious it will become and the light hearted comedy/reading will disappear.

I wish that the story progressed further before revealing the Abyss...

I really wanted to see how he interacted with the real world more. Ridiculous quest to catch a neighbors chicken pops up in the middle of class or something. The joke potential is endless. He trips and cuts his leg when he sees a hot chick, and it becomes a skill: Gamers Ability: Gain Sympathy

Things that really annoy me in any story are Loose ends:

I would rather have extra chapters prolonging the story taking care of everything.

To me the devil is in the details..... I mean there are never any new plots.... All the plots are basically about the same.  Since Shakespeare there have been no new plots... To me the plot is the boring part cause we know the MC will win. I care about the details of how he wins. So I would be happier for 50 more chapters with minor stories occuring while he gets stronger. Like improving relationship with Black Boulder clan to learn spells, and being ambushed by black leather clan for revenge, healing Yunhon martial artists to gain their basic skills etc.

An esoteric Example:

Like in the Moonlight Sculptor. The MC is notoriously cheap.... but he doesn't learn architecture skill to save money on labor costs  and increase his stats (It would help him while building his sculptures).... In fact, by now he should have learned every job skill in the game and gotten it to intermediate to increase his stats cause that is the way he plays games.

actually i enjoy stories were main character can die, even for something stupid it reminds me of tabletop session were a critical failure would occur. don't like omnipotent mc unless they deserve it coz they did all they could to have it. in fact i hate plot armor, i hate that stuff, can't lose coz you're more important than canon fodders etc... 1000 stupid lazy guys ganging up on a boxin' champ would win irl not the opposite.
