[El Phantom]

EDIT: There was an epic food fight, there were puns, there was gainaxing... the episode was like... look at all the cool new stuff we can now do with animation + here's some story to get you going

First chapter impressions:

Bad things:
·Bad story for me (can't stand "magic schools", leaving behind "The Name of the Wind".

·Bad voiceacting.

·Extremely lame jokes.

·An overall feeling during the first episode of "This is ridiculous". I can't explain it better.

 

Good things:

·Awesome battles, from what it seems in the first episode.

·Ruby Rose (is that it?) is badass as fucking hell.

 

Not a good first episode, but if the quantity of bad jokes and "cliché story" is reduced in later episodes are reduced, I will continue.

So? Does it get better?

 

PD: I'm sorry if I offended any fan of the series.

Some of what you said is understandable actually and acknowledged by fans and creators.

Story gets better, it's not really a magic school but combat school, it's not Hogwarts, it's a "military" school.

Voice actors actually do a really good job, the animation is the problem, but considering this is their first serious animation work (Red vs. Blue is not animation), I'd say they're doing good, and they do improve, and you've seen the first episode of Season 2 so you know it gets better.

Jokes are... well, you'll have some laughs

I keep rewatching everyone running away, Son being excited by all of it, and Nora laughing maniacally from the top of the table pyramid.

Voice actors are waaaaay better than in the trailers and even better in Season 2 with exception to the newest characters, though even then they're still quite decent.

 

I haven't found any of the main cast unlikeable, even the redhead dude with cane and coat, I found I kind of liked him as the series went on. I'm sure you'll find more than Ruby to like among the cast with each passing episode (she is adorbs though).

The whole thing feels like it was made by some incredibly talented high school kids on their home PCs, when really it was made by a company that got sponsored by the wrong software company and were too cheap to hire actual voice actors.

I enjoy that Monty Oum and his team managed to improve the animation in non-combat situations. Sometimes they were off-model, glitched, or just plain weird and unnatural. I have high hopes for this season!

After seeing from chapter 2 to 8 (yes), some things to say about it.

That thing confuses me. Like, there are *really* good conversations, the sort of conversations that I would have with a friend. 30 seconds after, the characters seem dolls with no personality.

But it's addicting. Hell, it's addicting.
