Tree of Savior, also known as Project R1, is a game currently in development by Korean developer IMC Games. Led by the "father of Ragnarok Online" Kim Hakkyu, this game aims to be the spiritual successor of Ragnarok Online 1.

Tree of Savior, also known as Project R1, is an MMORPG currently in development by Korean developer IMC Games.

Kim Hakkyu, the primary director of Ragnarok Online, left Gravity Corp. in 2002. Gravity was then left to develop Ragnarok Online 2 with a different team. As a result, the game adopted many elements from western MMORPGs such as WoW. Many RO fans viewed RO2 as a failure due to its streamlined look and inability to retain the uniqueness of the original Ragnarok Online. As a result, RO1 is more popular than RO2 to this day.

Tree of Savior, or "Project R1", aims to be the spiritual successor of Ragnarok Online 1. Led by Kim Hakkyu, the game will feature sprite-based character models in a 3D world (also known as 2.5D), much like the original RO.

Holy shit thats unexpected, RO was my first MMO too, played it way too much.. Pretty neat to see a succesor being developed. Not sure if I can still dig 2.5D but it looks kinda good from what I saw and I'm intrigued about the 80 classes. Looking forward to it!

Ragnarok Online was my Second MMO, the first was Argentum Online back in year 2000.

 

I'll be looking for free Korean VPNs after I'm done with this semester of bullshitingly hard projects.

The game looks interesting, but isn't it a bit... Niched? I mean, I don't know if I'd play this game today. Much less years from now. Diablo 3 was one thing, but this looks even older than that.

From what I've read so far they are not planning on making a korean server with ip block but they will be hosting a global/international server just like Diablo 3 with multi language support.

 

There is also an official poll on what country you want them to host the global server.

They are doing something different this time.

 

They want to have a language toggle system. You can choose what language you want.

 

It's somewhere on the dev blog. But don't quote me on it. At this rate Black Desert might come out first. This will probably be localized 2017 lol.
