Luffy's brother has eaten the mera mera no mi.He was stronger than Luffy when he was a kid,but had equal power with his other brother, all three being sworn brothers rather than birth ones.He cursed his parentage, depite it being ,arguably, important, and, after denying it ,he tried to make his own mark to the world by being a pirate. He serves as the second in command,be it in spirit or be it in rank,to one very, veeeery powerful person ,who is,coincidentally, also very much hated by the marines.

Now the million dollar question:am I talking about Ace,or Sabo?

Sabo.

Ace was never second in command, Marco was #1 behind WB making him second in command, Ace was leader of the 2nd division, so he would be third in command at highest.

Ace.

You mentioned 'pirate'. Sabo is a revolutionary, not a pirate; Ace was. Also, I've watched one piece so many times already and I've never seen an episode focusing on Sabo (or his parents), not even a clue on who his parents are. I don't think it's mentioned in the manga either.

Yeah, so anyways, it's Ace.

Actually, Sabo was a noble-born in their island, which was the reason he set out to sea and got "killed" by cannon shot from the world noble's ship. He has a younger brother(adopted), and his parents pretty much talked about how his younger brother is way better than Sabo. I guess you must've forgot some details after all

Wha-

Yea, totally missed that. Just like how I missed the scene where he ate ace' fruit! <.<

I only started reading the manga around the late 600's... Was that in the anime? Can you tell me which episodes? or season...

Chapter 580-ish of the manga. Right after Ace got.... well.... Oda goes into flashback about Luffy and Ace
Not sure about the episode since I don't follow the anime at all.

Sabo.

:D

"be it in spirit,or be it in rank"Sabo is in rank, but Ace is in spirit,as Whitebeard groomed him as his succesor (gotta love tricky wordings)

Ace.

Yeah, so anyways, it's Ace.

nope, his parents were an small island's nobles, the small putting the arguably (if you are wondering,Gol D.Rogers being an outlaw makes the arguably for him,its a different kind of arguably, gotta love tricky wordings)

Also,Sabo originally set out as a pirate, before being almost killed (its all in the flashback) and ,presumably (since thats only implied, not yet shown, but implied very strongly, even on the flashback)became a revolutionary after being rescued by them. But I only talked about setting out,not becoming....gotta love tricky wordings

Did I mention "gotta love tricky wordings"today?because everybody gotta love them

Didn't he take it over because there was an absence of a leader because it would've made more sense if they made the third division leader the second and made Ace the leader of the last division. It may just be that division were numbered according to when they were formed and leaders switched as time went on without regard to rank.

The answer is Ace.

First Sabo's parents were never an important part of the story(Unlike Gold D. Roger being Ace's father) and Sabo never became a true Pirate. He wanted to become a Pirate but never did, Ace was the one who tried to make a mark, "BEING" a Pirate he tried to challenge Whitebeard. . . although he failed.

Sorry, but it doesn't fit either ace nor sabo. Ace wasn't 2nd in command. Sabo didn't deny his parentage. Too bad you weren't careful enough with your "tricky wordings"
