Hmmm.  I know this theory is way off, but I just want to throw it out there.  I think that Yui's key and everyone else's key (Marika, Kosaki, Chitoge) were all originally one key that opened the locket.  When you go way back to when Raku and Chitoge first tried to open the lock with the key, the key fit in the hole and was able to turn,  but the key was too thin and snapped.  I believe that the part of the key stuck in Raku's locket ( or the snapped key) was but one part of the entire puzzle to solving this entire mystery.  Well those are my 50 cents so far anyways.   Feel free to add and critique.  This is merely a theory based on what I read so far.

My theory is that Chitoge's key broke because a part of Yui's key is stuck in there. She has a broken key and she told Raku "that the pendant won't open as it is now". Also in the Anime we don't really see the key turn, because it snaps right at the beginning of the turn.

My personal theory is that the keys need to be used in a specific order. Reason: the story book told of 3 supporting fairys for the main female character. So I think that you need to insert the keys in a specific order to unlock the pendant bit by bit and the last key will eventually open the lock and inside will be the remnant of the promise (like a piece of paper with the promise on it) and maybe a groupphoto of all the characters when they met 10 years ago.
