Hi,

I was never interested by this title in the first place, but I recently read Ability by the same guys which I found really great. Plus I saw so many positive comments even from people saying it's better than ToG (which is one of the most original, imaginative and well constructed story I ever read in my life). So I decided to give it a try.

But I'm reaching chapter 60, and I'm still not getting it. By chapter 60 in Ability there was several story arcs, some backgrounds stories, a clear evolution of the main character and his relationships, most of the character are developed enough to be more than extras, and I was left hanging at each chapter end after chapter 10.

Here I feel the story has not even started yet. The most significant evolution from the beginning is that the guy is now able to open the door. No background, development of relationships or any psychology of the characters. It feels like you could get rid of any of them and nothing would change much. Maybe the principal who got a little something as he is in between being the boss of school and having his master, and the first two bad guys, they're the only ones getting some relief, all the other characters are totally flat.

Anyway, if everybody is so fan of this, is it getting better ? There are a loooot of chapters, so maybe it's just really slow. Or if I didn't get into it by now, should I just drop it ?

From my point of view, yes it's really slow.

The background is bit by bit revealed, but you can say those are really tiny bits.

For the characters, if I remember correctly there will be a lot more introduced after the first volume is finished.

As for character development, there's none or almost none.

I'm not an absolute fan and it's been a while since I read most of the chapters, so I may be wrong and give you a bad opinion. I don't know if you should drop it, so let's wait for other replies.

My opinon is that it's a good comic, but a slow one.

You know, I've heard that "it starts really slow" opinion from a number of people, but I personally really didn't find it that way (I think I started it when it was at ch 250 or so).

But I have to say, I myself didn't really go into it trying to compare it to anything or with any preconceived ideas or expectations (other than what I had to work with in the synopsis) ..........and I thought it worked on a number of different levels from the start. Wry humor, ridiculous humor, instances of horror, mystery, suspense .............I found all those things almost immediately.

Honestly, at 60 chapters............wow, you know, I might suggest you to push another 20ish chapters or so just since I know there's another cool scene/section or two you'd get in that much more............but wow, yeah, 60 chapters and you don't like it by now?  Yeah, it just might not be your cup of tea.  :)

I didn't say I disliked it either. There's some good ideas, it just seems underused (specially comparing to their other title). It's not bad, but if there wasn't that many people who seem to be huge fans, I'd have dropped it already.

OK, I'll keep pushing till the end of the first season at least then.

Yeah, I like Ability too, as a comparison I find it to be much more "streamlined", or a little more "straightforward" so to speak, in comparison to Noblesse.

To be honest, I'd had Noblesse on my "to read later (maybe) list" for literally a couple of years (and yeah, mainly on the strength of how popular it appeared) before I even realized the one I was reading and discussing with people (Ability) was by the same folks.  >_<

And yeah, they told me I was missing out and should really read it, I did, liked it and like it still...........though a little heads-up about it......Noblesse is in the 300's of chapters now and there's no ending in sight. So yeah, worth a thought to at least know what you're getting into.  :D

 is it getting better ?

Not really. There are just tougher opponents, more pathos and fighting, less comedy and school life, but it's incredibly repetitive, so no, nothing changes, aside those dosages.

OK. It got better. End of s1 was ok. Seasons 2&3 were pretty cool. Not much character evolution but the story and fights got a lot better. I can see now how so many people can be fan of this, but wow, it really took a long time to get to an above average level!

Yeah ? It sure looks like it could easily turn into a dbz kind of thing. Well, for now, it looks entertaining enough. I'm glad I kept reading.

(But yeah, definitely not ToG level)

Well you can't really compare Noblesse with TOG. The basis of the stories are much to different. I mainly read Noblesse because Rai is a bad ass and that the art is beautiful. Not because the story is amazing.

But I do think Noblesse is he best battle manwha, no other can compare when it comes to straight up action.

Yeah, you're right, the fights are one of the things I like about Noblesse, and I'm not big on plain old "fighting" stories either.
