The girl hid herself from the world. The catalyst had left everything in rubble, and now she slept beneath the floorboards that belonged to a place that was once called home. That house was one of the few buildings that still stood, unlike the people the girl was bound to. 

 

She knew she should leave the city—she was alone now. And the girl knew that if she moved beyond the old city walls, she would meet new people, and build a life for herself. If she would only take the risk. 

 

But she couldn't. Not yet, at least. For now, she would remain in the ruins of her childhood.

It's a flash fiction. Flash fictions are bite-sized short stories that generally under five hundred words. (The word count is actually pretty debatable to a lot of people.)
