Just curious. Do you look genres up on websites, and if so which websites? Or do you go on suggestions by others?
I'm desperate for a new series that'll be up my alley but it's difficult to find something I like lately.

The sites I go to are animefreak.tv and waoanime.tv and I believe they both have advanced search options where they allow you to search anime by genre. Otherwise, I beg users of batoto to suggest decent anime to watch. I also use myanimelist.net which allows you to keep a record of all the anime and manga you read/watch and look summaries and reviews of almost all anime.
For the new anime of the season I just look up the summaries on Anichart and for not currently airing/older anime it's usually by suggestion from people + checking the summary on MyAnimeList.
Sometimes I'm just lucky and stumble on some pics of the anime that interest me and make me check it out.

I just go through TOP lists and AMVs, and if something catches my eye, I check what it is and do a bit of research on it.
Here, see this list? http://vatoto.com/forums/topic/17628-in-need-of-new-anime/?p=1177540
These are the anime that I picked and watched and kept. I have not been disappointed by any of them, none of them are cheap as in t"hey do not relly on cheap crap to gather viewers".
I trusted my gut feeling when I picked them up, and my instinct does not lie to me. I have standards that I cannot define, and they serve me without flaw.

Occasionally I find out about some neat show by chance, through an internet recommendation/meme/reaction gif/whatever. Occasionally I pick something completely at random. Occasionally it's recommendations from my friends.
Oh, you didn't have to mention it :3

i'm just loading every damn episode of the current season and watch 2 episodes (or 1 if it's absolutely terrible)
Mostly suggestions by others, I guess. If I see someone going, "Holy heck this is awesome!"
Then I check MAL, for ratings, reviews, and then watch it... When I get the time lol.
MAL is so useful :-) I love having reviews I can read so easily.

I usually ask friends for suggestions or just randomly search genres for something that looks interesting.
Mainly anichart, then wikipedia/wikia, then to nyaa torrent.
I dont bother with reviews at all.
I just use Google and type in the anime that I watch and put it like "Similar anime to ______". Or I just go on some anime sites like crunchyroll, animeultima, or whatever anime sites. and I just search it by genre.

I check MAL's (My anime List) list of top anime and scroll down/look through the pages until I find one that looks interesting or appealing- or after completing an anime I enjoyed, I look through MAL's reccommendations, ratings and reviews of other anime. That, or I'll ask friends.
