The Mortal Age

In the beginning there was naught but depthless void where nothing existed. That endless nothing desired to have itself filled and so gave birth to the Great Father who was gifted with the powers of creation and so filled the void with spheres of lands and waters and to illuminate his works he created orbs of light to drive away the darkness of the void so that all may look upon what he had created.

He who was born from nothing was yet alone in this place and the loneliness of a solitary existence weighed upon him until he too wished to create life. The Great Father tore from himself the very aspects that made up the core of his being and from them were born Lyra, Cleon, Kallisto, Lothar, Maeve, Urd, Aeron, Archelaus, Lycus, and Tisiphone. Each was born from him and yet they remained distinct individuals with their own minds and for the first time the universe had conversation. They spoke, they joked, they laughed, they fought, and the universe around them went on without a hitch. In time though they too began to want for more and a time would come when they too would try their hand at creation.

Lothar ranted that all was a bore while Urd spoke of all that could be and Kallisto sang of dreams and ideas that should be but never would. Maeve sketched out theories and designs for how things could work while Lycus and Tisiphone debated on how the world would run and Lyra came to settle their disputes and lay down laws absolute and unflinching. Archelaus prepared the molds for all the races and creatures and Aeron taught them how to interact. Cleon stood aside and awaited for when his time would come to work and whispered that this too shall end.

And end it did. Over, and over, and over again as the Destroyer came from a place beyond the void to end all that the Gods did create. As the Destroyer brought ruin to the world and lives they created the Ten threw open the doors to celestial planes and did shelter the souls of the men and women who fled to safety. In time, the Destroyer would return to his own realm and the Gods would set to work in repairing all that he did break. So it is the world is rebuilt and life returned as slowly the souls of the dead were reborn again in the world. To reward their strength the Gods would invite the greatest among them into their own private planes and uplift them above their kin and grant unto them power untold as they trusted them with the responsibility of preserving the balance of the world.

So it was, is, and forever was meant to be...

Yet wasn't. A time came when the Destroyer arrived but the Gods did not. His hand fell over the world and all life prayed for a salvation that did not come. Cities fell and the people died by the thousands but still their cries went unanswered. What does one do when their creators have abandoned them? They fight back. They stand together and fight an enemy that they cannot defeat. They rally themselves and win battles that they should never be able to win. They stand triumphant as the shadow of that which cannot be beaten is broken and driven away.

A cycle of death and rebirth was destroyed not by the hands of some omniscient creators but by ones far more ignorant and weak. They had done what not even the divine Ten could do. What right did they have to call themselves Gods if even mortals could do what they could not? What need did they have for absentee creators?

None.

In this age, an age they had won for themselves, they would forge their own paths.

The Mortal Age had come.

Born into a world where the Gods have become but a relic of a past or at least that is what they would like to think. Whether they wish to ignore it or not a darkness hangs over the world yet and somethings are going very, very wrong. Those are the worries of a day not yet come though and for now the present is filled with boundless opportunities for those who know where to find them.

Can I know/be related to an important NPC? Can I be a Prince? Can I etc...

If you want to be close to important npcs or have a unique backstory that is heavily involved in the world or anything like that just send me a message and we can work out the details. I will most likely say yes.


So what do I do?

What do you want to do? This is a roleplay that is going to require you to make your own path in the world and to take initiative. There will be plot events that happen as well as side ones just for fun but a lot of things will be driven and affected by what you choose to do. I will do my best to make my updates interesting and give you more to do but that’s a two way street. I can’t update you if you just stand there whistling.


Will we be able to increase our stats/add new traits later?

Yep. Just don’t ask me when.


Can I kill autokill this guy?

Does he have a name? Does he have an image? Does the spoiler beneath the update explicitly state that he isn’t autokillable? Does he have a dapper hat or badass mustachery? If the answer to any of these questions was yes then no. You cannot autokill this guy. If he is a generic mook that was given little to no description or presented in large numbers then yeah you probably can.


When will I get an update?

As soon as I can make one. I might be giving someone nearby a chance to respond or working through updates for people who posted before you. It’s possible I might also have missed/forgotten you posted so if I seem to be overlooking you feel free to poke me. However, that doesn’t mean I want an hourly reminder.


What level of technology exists?

Medieval for the most part but gunpowder has been discovered and worked with by the Daomer and several Urshard have created armaments using them but they are still in their early phases and prone to poor results and haven’t caught on yet. You can have hand cannons if you want so long as you accept that they are still a prototype and won’t work perfectly.


What’s the currency called?

Reim.


Can I submit an NPC/Guild/City/Legend/Etc to you?

Absolutely. If you get hit with inspiration and think that something would fit great in the world go ahead and send me a pm about it. I’m always looking to expand on the world. Just know that I might critique it or change facets and that has nothing to do with it being bad necessarily. I just need to make it fit into the world.


Can I be a Co-GM?

While I will be looking for one or two people to help out at times I will reach out to them personally and ask them. I appreciate the thought though.

Country of Origin: Ascxil

Appearance: Normally of rather strict Noble descent, Minerva is a slight outlier from her family's genetic pool. Her father, having left their ranks in his younger years, ended up pairing off with an common woman during his exile. Which naturally lead to the birth of Minerva, who still retained the Fairchild's tall, slender, and absolutely awestriking complexion and figure, yet instead of varying shades of golden locks, she was born with Strawberry Blonde hair. Though her family may wish to perceive her in far more regal clothing, she often chooses to simply wear whatever she wishes. Usually consisting of a blouse, and a loose fitting skirt of some sort. Of which sheathed at her back are her two Cavalry Sabers, one was her father's, the other gifted to her by Leonora Fairchild.

Personality: Fierce, stubborn, and absolute in her own morals, Minerva Fairchild first started off as a simple ruffian, but upon being found by her family; she quickly adopted and adapted to the lifestyle of her kindred Magi. The daughter of the Patriarch's outcast brother, she can still be just a little rough around the edges when it comes to the civility and formality of nobility, but she does what she can, however she can.

Bio: For a Fairchild, Minerva's history is much left in darkness and delusion. Most historians regard her part in the family as simply the Black Sheep's bastard child. Yet some to tend to see things differently. As a youth, she had no idea of her magical capability until the age of sixteen; when she was discovered by Fairchild scouts looking for any possible lost family members after the Second Great War. Knowing she was one of their line, yet not knowing precisely who her Father was, she was welcomed into the family with tentatively open arms.

That was until she gave Leonora, the eventual matriarch of the Fairchild Family, a picture of her father.

What were once open arms were swiftly and cruelly closed.

They had discovered something horrific, William Fairchild, the very abomination who had started the Second Great War, had managed to gain himself a daughter. Judgement against her came quick and brutal. However, there was one who still stood to give the girl some kind of chance. Even in spite of the fact that the first saber she wielded was none other than her father's former blade.

It was Leonora, who saw some potential in Minerva.

With Leonora's careful guidance and teachings, she surprised everyone within the ranks of the Fairchild nobility when her Father resurfaced, Minerva didn't join his side as he thought she would. Rather than go with him and start a new war, she rose up and struck him down. Believing him consumed by his madness, the young woman who eventually became known as one of the most brutal magi swordswomen of the age killed her own father without the least hesitation at the tender age of eighteen.

To preserve her family line.

To preserve peace.

And to save countless lives.

Minerva is quite the excellent cook, though she'd never confess such a skill.

Part of the Fairchild Family's upper echelon of nobility, she has quite a fortune. Having inherited her exiled father's wealth, she tends to avoid the use of it or showing that she has money in the first place; considering it quite a hindrance.

What is striking about her the most is her magic. Based on bodily amplification and using two swords, the magic that courses through her veins enables a boon of massively increased speed and perception, making her movements and speed almost imperceivable to the human eye. Upon use, her eyes are filled with white arcing magic, that traces jagged lines down her cheeks. It is often said by her adversaries that they saw her draw a blade, and then they saw nothing else.

 

That being said, it is only natural that Minerva is masterfully adept with her two sabers. Even without her magic, she keeps pace with some of the world's best sword masters with grace and ease.

Inventory:
A pair of intricate, priceless, and absolutely beautifully crafted Cavalry Sabers. Both of which are sheathed upon her back waist. Made by the legendary Fairchild family weaponsmiths, most collectors would dream of obtaining them.

I want to see characters with a vested interest in the world in some shape or form.  I want them to have some kind of driving force that I can use.  There will be fewer groups that will more often than not be separated by distance though there will be chances between arcs to switch things up.  There is a main story and it will be developing in the background regardless of rper involvement though it may very well be impacted by their actions.  Rpers, however, do no need to feel obligated to be apart of any of those developments and are free to chase after their own desires and I will tie them into the plot that way while corralling enough people along so that they don't feel isolated.

 

The more I see rpers taking an interest in the affairs of the world and the more they put into it the more I'm going to be likely to repay those efforts.

There are tons of merc groups I just happened to not list leaders for those two as they are less politically involved as some of their peers. You can be the head of a merc guild so long as it is small in operation.  You can also make up one and just say you are a member of distinction.  Could also pitch me an idea for the leader of the listed ones and create a connection to them.

Appearance: Off all the myriad skins tones that Daomers are known to possess, Asta has among the most unusual. Fiery red, couple that with her amber eyes she is like the demons depicted in human sub-cultures with a set of ram like horns to make her appearance more bizarre. She has pristine white long locks which are usually left hanging freely, adding a whole new layer to her beauty. So even if she looks like the devil, she is one beautiful one. She generally wears a long cloak that hides her voluptuous features paired with a headband that neatly tucks away her unusual horns. Add to that the white paint she uses for her exposed body makes it look like red tattoos on an extremely pale skin generally identified with her kind than the other way round.

Personality: She has a natural charm about her and is very soft-spoken, she likes talking to people and especially playing with children. Happily engaging in their funny theatrics. She has an air of ease around her that draws you to come and talk to her. But she can remain quiet and be with nature equally well, busying herself in books or the natural miracles that happen all around us, to which most have shut themselves to.

Bio: Asta Sarunai was born into the Daomer stronghold of Aria. Her father was a famous architect and mother a scholar, yet they could never find the reason for their only child's peculiar appearance. While both had pretty usual hues, their daughter was born with a rather unseen color. A fiery red, though their kind had no legends attached to a skin of a child they knew she had something special.

 

But they never survived long enough to see her innate talent. The disastrous storm of  ten seasons past wiped their abode and their lives, departing fairly early than the usual spans of their people. They left behind a child that survived more through destiny than skill. Rescued by volunteers of The Way, she was taken in and given shelter. Through chance one of the priest found out about her skill in magic, a skill frowned upon even deeper than her color. But fate had led her to the sanctuary where her gifts will be cherished and nurtured and so she began training herself in the ways of magic and mana. Growing into a respected mage despite her young age, the elements were said to dance at her will and she was said to bring about efforts that would have took a legion otherwise.

 

Her time with herself and mistreatment by children her age for her unusual color made her a reserved one, busy with books or being in the lap of nature watching her fury and love both being brought about with big and small miracles. In time she opened up to little ones, showering them with love. Providing them with an outlet for their boundless energies by involving them with herself in tiny excursions and adventures, taking their mind off whatever disaster that had called forth the services of The Way.

Personality: Nymphs are highly tied with nature. Mu is no exception, though the other nymphs he's met think of him as eccentric. Nymphs typically connect with forests, whereas Mu feels the most bonded with the sea and it's creatures, though he likes all places of nature. He loves the cool, mysterious world under the sea. It feels like anything can happen. Some of the best views are under water. And the most creative creatures certainly are. Some fish with lights on them, teeth like razors or no bones at all. And that's not even in the deepest parts. There are places in the sea that light hasn't touched for centuries. Seeing what lives down there is one of Mu's dreams. The sea. He could talk about it all day. It's his favorite place in the world, and it's the home of his favorite person, Clara. More than anything else in the world he loves Clara. Even more than he loves the sea.

Mu is very friendly and gets pretty excited about most stuff, especially anything new. He has an intense passion for life and wouldn't kill anything without a good reason. There's not a lot that he dislikes but killing is definitely on his list. Another thing he hates is cities, truly detests them. Everything about cities make his skin crawl. He's not sure what it is about them but they just feel wrong to him.

Mu grew up on a beach at the edge of a forest. He lived in a little weather beaten wooden shack. For as long as he could remember he'd lived alone and raised himself. He would watch the sea in quiet times, fail at fishing, eat any dead fish that washed up, and tend to the farm next to his shack. Though "Farm" is a rather grandiose term for a small patch of earth that he'd brought over from the forest. But somehow he managed to grow enough to feed a young boy and, luckily, that's what he was.

When he was young it would really bother him to see families. Why didn't he have one? He would think about it a lot and, inevitably, he'd get really sad. And so, to try and stop himself dwelling on it, he started going swimming in the ocean. He didn't even need to learn how to swim, it just came naturally to him like breathing. He couldn't believe he hadn't tried it before. Being out there in the sea water would always calm his mind.

Aged eight was when he met Krunk. Krunk was a turtle, well, more like THE turtle. And he swears his name sounds much better the deeper you go under the ocean. He was a sea god in the form of a huge turtle. Mu had strayed a bit too far, and more than a little too deep, into the ocean one day. Luckily Krunk showed up and saved his life by simply making him breathe underwater. Krunk seemed to take a liking to the young boy and from then on he would visit whenever he could be bothered. During his visits he'd try to help Mu learn how to control his limited amount of magic. In time he learned a few cool tricks like drying himself off with a snap of his fingers. And a few more useful things like seeing in the dark and becoming resistant to the cold. Along side his magic he had advice for every occasion and a vast knowledge of everything that lived in the sea. Out of nowhere Krunk decided one day to give Mu a last name, La'cee. Mu didn't get the joke. Eventually, because he kept not seeing it, Krunk snapped and explained it to him.

As the years went by Mu started swimming more and more, and by the age of thirteen he was practically living in the sea. He'd learned a lot from Krunk, mostly about which sea plants were edible and which fish were likely to bite. He'd grown into a pretty accomplished swimmer and had explored a good amount of the sea around his shack. He'd found coves, funky coloured crabs and wonderful coral reefs. It was about then that he first saw Clara. The face of a girl who seemed to be about his age, bobbing in the waves. Immediately he swam out, assuming she was drowning, but when he got out there she'd gone.

At first Mu thought he'd imagined the face amongst the waves, but then she returned the next week. He caught more than a glimpse of her this time. Her eyes were the colour of the sea and her long brown hair seemed to have a green tint when it shone in the sun. She was definitely real, and she was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. She returned on occasion over the next few months, always looking at him with the same curious stare. Anytime Mu had tried to swim over she would disappear into the sea. So he stopped swimming out to her. Whenever she turned up Mu would give her a little wave as she floated in place, seemingly trying to decide whether she dared come closer or not. There was something about her that constantly held his attention. He didn't know whether it was the way she could easily outrun him in the sea, or the smile that she sometimes had, but he wanted to know more about her. Krunk gave him a sly smile when he tried to talk to him about her, like he knew something Mu didn't. Not that that was a surprise, Krunk knew just about everything.

Over time the girl began to appear closer to the shore and Mu discovered what Krunk hadn't told him. She was a mermaid. He had so many more questions he wanted to ask her now. And when she finally spoke to him he forgot them all. She had the gentlest voice Mu had ever heard and her name was Clara. The two hit it off immediately. Mu told her of his life, his friend and teacher Krunk, everything she asked about. And the girl told him everything he wanted to know, of her dreams to see the world and her family under the sea. The two fell in love.

By the time they were twenty the two were still very much in love and had gotten married. The pair would swim around like hyperactive children when they were together. They'd explore the caves and the ocean floor, watch sunsets and chase fish around. Constantly together, having fun and planning trips around the world. They were happy, and then Clara fell ill. It was an illness the Merfolk had never seen before, like an evil spreading through her body. She could not be cured by anything they tried. Even Krunk couldn't cure it, just hold it at bay. Mu decided to venture out into the world to find a cure. Krunk created The Gnarly Ride out of a nearby log to speed his journey along, and promised he'd keep Clara safe until Mu returned.

With no idea where to go, or what to do when he got there, Mu left the Merfolk village in search of a cure.

Traits:
~ Honorary Mermaid: During his life Mu has spent a huge amount of time in the sea, he can swim with the best of them and through magic he can breathe underwater. Most sea creatures tend to accept his presence and mermaids that know him accept him as one of their own.
~ A Lover Not A Fighter: Many life threatening fights have given him more than his fair dose of terror, not to mention all the time he's spent amongst the most fearsome sea creatures. As a result Mu has become extremely good at running away and/or talking people out of hurting him.
~ Dude, Gnarly: Mu rarely fights, but when he has to he likes to fight  whilst riding his magical surfboard.

Appearance: Tall tanned skin and fit from years of training. He is approximately 5’8 and has dark hair. He has a leather armor he always wears but it is normally covered by a cloak. He has 2 short swords worn down by his hips one on each side and a large two handed sword across his back.

Personality: A witty man Miles always likes to keep those around them on their toes. He is always joking but can get very serious and focused when the need comes.

Bio: Miles was born into a noble family that had supplied the army with many powerful knights and soldiers. At 15 Miles himself wanted to go his own way, his mother encouraged him to go and his father was going to force him to join the military whether he wanted to or not. This was because kids start their military training and Miles showed proficiency with weapons. So Miles stayed until one day his entire family was murdered by a man with a long scar going down the right side of his face. Miles felt no animosity for the man like a normal person would. He only felt the sorrow of losing his mother but even that did not hold in the country for long. He thought of their death as a breaking from his bonds and he left Axcil to explore the world.  For the past 5 years he has been wandering around and selling his sword for money, killing creatures terrorizing people or capturing criminals for their bounties.
