This one is fairly simple. Terumi has to try his chances with 14 girls, and I wonder if all of them will be different, with no two sharing an archetype. Let's quickly recap the four targets Terumi has or hasn't conquered yet:

1. Asahi - his cousin. Her most defining trait is that she is a prude who's afraid of love and relationships, both physical and romantic.

2. Aoi - the girl with daddy issues. Tsundere.

3. Hanada - the naїve, innocent type. Moe.

4. Rokujou - most likely a yandere. For now, no clue about her personality.

10 more girls to appear (although many of us suspect the last one will be a certain sexy kuudere aunt). What do you think they'll be like? What would you like them to be? Give me your ideas!

I guess someone who knew the Tales of Genji would have a real idea of this, apparently the author has done their research on it and intends to have at least a rough parallel unfold between the two stories.

I've looked up and tried to read a few of the articles on Genji  but, wow, it's not only  complicated but just a huge amount of information.........yeah, I didn't last too long trying to decipher it all.  :D

Well,at least you tried, but perosnally I wouldn't really like to know what all the girls are going to be like beforehand.
Ignorance is a bliss (in this case atleast).

Haha! True, if it was too close of a parallel it might spoil the story somewhat. Still though, I'd guess it wouldn't be much of a heads-up given the differences in context (the time periods, the differences in main characters).

I suppose what we've had so far has been more along the lines of just some "basic" similarities between the historical figures and our modern-day participants.........after that I kind of doubt the author is trying (or able) to make things be too similar.

If the author is actually following the Tale of Genji, there is going to be some SERIOUSLY MESSED UP STUFF to come. I don't remember every girl, but here is what I do remember:

SPOILERS AHEAD ESPECIALLY CONCERNING ROKUJOU

The girls I remember are:

ALREADY SHOWN:

Asahi = Asagao no Kimi. Genji's cousin, but never actually slept with him, so I don't think she'll actually be part of the 14.

Aoi = Aoi no Ue. Genji's first wife (clear parallel with losing his virginity to her). As in the story, there is a significant age difference, and she gets progressively more hurt about Genji's philandering. In the Tale of Genji, is killed by Rokujou's evil spirit. In Minamoto, stand by for a cat fight between Aoi and Rokujou.

Hanada = ??? I don't remember her at all.

Rukojou = Rokujō Miyasundokoro. THIS GIRL IS BAT**** INSANE. In the actual tale of Genji, she was a lady of high station (I think she was the widow of a Crown Prince or something). Got pissed at Genji because he doesn't treat her with the respect that she thinks is due her station. Clear parallel with Rokujou being a teacher - if he's banging her, then Minamoto is probably going to stop giving her 'teacher respect', if you will. I'm not sure exactly how the author is going to handle this - but in the Tale of Genji, Rokujo actually manifested an evil spirit that killed 2 of Genji's other lovers - Aoi and Yugao. Then she died, and apparently continued to haunt Genji's lovers as a spirit. I repeat - THIS GIRL WAS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY.

The Stepmother = Fujitsubo. Yes, in the tale of Genji, Genji banged his stepmother. If the author holds to the tale, Minamoto is going to sleep with his father's new wife (that he kicked him out of the house for).

WOMEN NOT YET MET:

Akashi. Actually had a child by Genji that eventually becomes the Empress. Actually, if I recall, her father was the one that wanted her to establish a relationship with Genji.

Yugao - Lower class woman Genji sleeps with, he was actually attracted to her by the flowers she grew around her house, if I recall. She is the other woman killed by Rokujou's vengeful spirit. If I had to guess, given the conflict between her and Rokujou, this is going to be the next girl to make an appearance after Rokujou.

Sue Tsume Hana - Genji was helping her out by giving her money, and slept with her.

Nokiba Ogi - Weird situation. Genji was trying to sleep with her stepmother (Utsusemi), and through a very long and convoluted situation that involved him spying on her with another man, going to her house in disguise, and depending on how you interpret it, him actually trying to rape her, Genji ended up banging Nokiba Ogi instead when the stepmother refused him (basically she was his consolation bang so his efforts weren't wasted).

Oborozukiyo - slept with Genji the night before she married somebody else (the Emperor, actually)

Murasaki Ue - The low-class girl he raises and sleeps with. In the Tale of Genji, he found her when she was 10 when he found her. He was attracted to her because of her striking resemblence to Fujitsubo - the woman he couldn't have. Supposedly Genji's only real love, when she died, he died shortly after, supposedly out of grief. This is the girl everybody refers to when they talk about Genji raising a girl to be his wife. I'd hazard a guess that this is going to be the Final Girl to make an appearance.

I know that's only 11, like I said I can't recall any of the others.

Spoiler

Oh, fascinating, every bit of it, thanks for the info. Like I said, I tried to look up the topic but was pretty much blown away by the simple volume of information there was on it..........just way too much to try and glean anything out of it (for a lazybones like me at least :D ) without really studying on it.

Yeah, I can easily see how the topic is the subject of learned study as the Kaoruko character depicts.

Asahi = Akashi. Actually had a child by Genji that eventually becomes the Empress. Actually, if I recall, her father was the one that wanted her to establish a relationship with Genji. It could be that when we see her again, her mother/father basically throw her at Minamoto to get her out of her shell.

Hanada = ??? I don't remember her at all.

Asahi isn't Akashi, she is Asagao no Kimi, Genji's cousin. She didn't bear Genji's or anyone's child, and actually died a virgin.

Hanada is Hanachirusato, and her role has already been pretty much fulfilled. Soothed Terumi/Genji's heart the most, but didn't actually love him. That being said, Kaoruko wants to remedy that... But wouldn't that break consistency with her precious experiment? Who knows, maybe it won't work as she hopes.

Interesting stuff about other women. I can't wait for Terumi's stepmother to appear in the story, that woman seems fishy as hell. Disowned by her parents? Doesn't have anywhere to go? Carries Terumi's dad's child? Uh-huh.

Ah, you're right, I forgot about that. Well that that still leaves me with 11 since Asagao wasn't one of Genji's 14.

However, even with consideration of original tales of genji, kaoruko's plans go further - she doesn't want to repeat exact same occurences, which is proven by the fact she wants Terumi to enter physical relationship with asahi, and stop rokujou from going yandere. She's trying to raise Genji v2.0 who succeeds at keeping them all at once - harem style.

Yes, I agree with you......whether you look at it as "going further" or other wise, she's "recreating" the Tales of Genji "loosely". It's certainly the map or blueprint for her experiment, but it's definitely (from what I understand of the original work) already made some allowances for the different participants, the different time/culture as it is now, etc, etc.

I personally don't think the current story should be seen through the prism of the original work and taken too "literally". Maybe as a "rough draft" yeah, but not to the point of expecting things to turn out or follow the original course of events exactly.

Well recent chapter mentioned that kaoruko compares herself to the original author of Genji no Monogatari, means she is considering herself as an author of sorts.

Did it? I didn't notice (or just don't remember now), but yeah, I suppose we established her character as a published author/leading authority on the subject/highly learned person, quite early in the story.

However,  I've always maintained that while Kaoruko is certainly saying all this is "research" or an "experiment"...........to a large degree that's a cover and it's mostly just a way of helping her nephew. She may be keeping outward appearances, but no way she's truly looking at this as a detached, clinical researcher who's going to stick to the "script" if it means (real) harm to Terumi.

It might be based on Tales of Genji but doesn't exactly mean the author will go following that exactly as it really didn't end good. There will be a deviation from Tales of Genji somewhere. There have already been a deviations like the first girl happens to be his cousin while in Tales of Genji it happens to be his stepmother who also happens to be his childhood friend/crush.

Childhood friend's crush???? Isn't that Kauruko???? Or a new guy character will make a appearance? Eitherway, sweet..... I am kinda tired with that overbearing Minato's friend.... remind me of another manga with "himegoto" in it's name....

Well in genji's tale he fucks pretty much everything that walks around him , even a teenage boy.

There's a SHIT TON of women that genji get to fuck , and it's really annoying trying to read it in wikipedia so I gave up half a way , but from what discovered is that the author is just making similarities !
In the tales the yandere kills the part that Nao represents here and some other women die too... Genji kidnaps the little girl and raises her into his perfect woman.

What I'm trying to say is that some things from the tale are not good with the manga atmosphere so it's useless trying to know what will happen comparing it to the tale of genji.
You should just read this and dream to be Minamoto :D
