Well, here I am using my brain a bit and did some research as well ;)

-) Obviosly, ALL fog fleet ships come from the era of WWII, most of them are of japanese origin as most of the story takes place around japan, but we got to see 3 german models, the "Bismarck", the U2501 and the "Milchkuh" submarine ("Milchkuh" is german and means "milk cow" and was a german sub in WWII that was in charge of resupplying the german fleet of subs. None of these ships survived WWII as far as I know)

The Bismarck was one hell of a battleship of the nazis back then as well, but got its mobility heavily dampened by a luck hit of a torpedo (it ruined its rudder and could only go in a circle as the rudder got jammed into the propeller) and then it got hunted down by several british ships and got sunk in the earlier part of WW2

-) The I-400, I-401 and I-402, NONE had backward topedo launchers (I am just saying this because all ships in the fleet of fog are made to look pretty much EXACTLY like the originals from WWII)

-) All mental models of the fleet of fog are female, I highly doubt there are going to be any exceptions in the future. Reason: Ships are always top referred to as "she" if you don't say "It"

-) ALL ships of the fleet of fog are ships that got sunk, so the fleet of fog can be literally called a fleet of "ghost ships"

Most got blown up in battle, but some got blown up after the war, the I-401 got blown up near Hawai by USA in order to prevent anyone from having it (they DID study every detail of it before that though, see the other topic with the documentation video for more details), the wreckages of I-400 and I-401 should be somewhere in front of Hawai

Note: the ship that was (re)discovered in 2005 was the I-401

My guesses about the origin of the fleet of fog:

a) They are ACTUAL ghost ships, or in other words, the sunk ships reassembled themselves with that technology or someone/something did that

B) Someone/something modeled the fleet of fog after what the sunk ships of WWII looked like

The anime came out recently as well, I really liked it ;)

Sure, they twisted the story a bit to satisfy the audience (come on, the 1 or 2 panels that display Iona's meeting with the MC are waaaaay too little for an anime, it needs a better backstory and as the mystery of Iona's history isn't really cleared up either, they had to come up with a slightly different version of how she became "property of the government")

Edit:

The mirroring system that the "U2501" used, 402 mentioned that ONLY Yamato- class battleships were supposed to have that...

That means that only 2 or 3 ships should have the "regular" one.

The only ships of that class that were ever built are the battleship Yamato and the Musashi, the fog- versions of which already appeared at this point of the story

It is possible that a third ship, the Shinano has it as well, as this ship was initally made to be a Yamato- class battleship as well, but halfway in production they made it into an aircraft carrier as well

They partially completed it and sent it from Yokosuke naval arsenal to Kure naval base in November 1944

On 19th November 1944, only 10 days after it being commissioned, it got sunk by 4 torpedoes of the US- submarine USS Archer-fish (ship was not really ready for combat due to it being not complete and it having an inexperienced crew) Up to date it remains the largest warship that was ever sunk by a submarine.

It doesn't look like that "record" will be broken anytime soon either because the ONLY warships nowadays that are larger than this are aircraft carriers and good luck getting a submarine close enough to it to take it out

It is also possible (100% speculation on my part) that the Shinano is also a VERY important ship for this story.

I mean both the Yamato and the Musashi are very important flagships for the fleet of fog

You probably saw a MM of an american Warship earlier. As Haruna almost went berserk an astronaut appeared on Maya. Dont think it was a human. But i still wonder where she went after that accident. Is she still on Maya, unnoticed by the others?

Another thing is about Bismarck. The first pictures you saw of her she was fully equipped. Some time later you saw her missing one turret and she said she would just give one, but not to who.... or what.

Well, i guess we are going to see more europaen and american ships. I-401 going to America and Maya with Haruna and Krishima going to Europe.

The astronaut girl is most likely that admiralit code (or however that is called)

I mean look at her earring- it looks a lot like the sign of the fleet of fog

The Bismarck?

It only appeared in chapter 36 page 28 and the mental models on page 29

Still on Maya? I doubt that.

My guess:

1) mental models are entirely made of nanomaterials

2) The core of a ship doesn't have to be inside the mental model (Takao tricked the U-2501 like that)

3) A ship can have multiple mental modelsl, Yamato, Nagato and Bismarck are shown to have 2 mental models

4) Ships with only 1 mental model can still create additional ones to do work on board (they are smaller than the real one though), we have seen Iona and Takao using these

5) Mental models don't have to be on board their ship, distance does not matter (quantum communication) and if the core is in one piece, it can continue to exist after the actual ship got sunk (like Haruna, Kirishima, Takao and Hyuuga)

6) Fog ships can be hacked, apparently (Takao hacked a destroyer in an attempt to destroy the mental model of Yamato), the bigger the ship (or rather, the more processing power it has), the better it is at it.

The admirality code is probably THE one who has the most processing power so hacking Maya without being noticed and creating a mental model from Maya's nanomaterials should be an easy job for her

The mental model of the admirality code that was seen on Maya of course did not have the core inside and after it stopped Maya, it most likely returned the nanomaterials to Maya.

And WHAT the admirality code is?

I have some ideas:

-) She is an alternate personality/mental model of I-401/Iona (Yamato, Nagato and Bismarck also have 2 mental models)

-) She is the sistership of Yamato/Musaschi- the Shninano (after they were halfway done with it they converted it into an aircraft carrier)

The only other aircraft carrier we have seen this far, the "Zuikaku" was shown to be able to fly as well :D

That would also explain why it'd be close to impossible to hunt her down- while in midair she can defend against most attacks with her weapons and the Klein field and is also able to travel over land, while other fog ships can only travel where water is

-) She has lost her ship for some reason and is running around as a mental model, probably hiding among humans- if that's so, good luck finding her

Mmmh, wouldnt go that far to say "most likely". Its possible, sure, but there are others things, too, which we maybe dont know.

The sign of the fog? Do they have one? I mean, i know every ship has its own, but is there a common one for the fog? Thats why i think its more a sign of the Enterprise. The suit would fit to the name. Look to point 6 for more.

Well, there the turret "Anton" is missing. But you see it on the Bismarck in chapter 29 page 20.

1. Well, you saw how I-401 MM appeard out of nowhere during the confrontation of Yamato and Musashi. You saw U-2501 MM diappear too, after Zordan told her so.

2. Yes, thats what i think too. How else could Takao and I-401 control their little MMs ^^

3. Jup

4. Jup

5. Jup as well ^^

6. Well, dont know if the Admirality Code has a core. Almost think she is a human. A human who can control the Fog, if she wants. Could be she used Enterprise to calm Haruna down. Its a big carrier so i think it has a Yamato like core. So she could still be on Maya or went on land in Japan... Maybe she merged the Nanos really with Maya again, but can use thouse anytime to recreate the MM.

Dont know if U-boats can really have more than 1 MM. So i think its more the Shinano.

Mmhmm, lost it? If, than i think more she is hiding it ^^

Completely minor point, but German ships are always referred to as a he, rather than a she.

the fleet of fog literally mean's the ghost fleet, but that said i doubt that every ship in the fleet have to have a sunken terran counterpart, iowa and the missouri were 2 of the 4 iowa class ships that were finished during ww2 but missouri never actually entered military operations until after the war, both ships were assumed to be sunk in the great battle in the manga in the 21st century, they have fog counterparts despite the fleet of fog originally being meant to activate in May 1st, 1945, whether the ships were built later on or during the war is uncertain but they do exist as part of the pan-american fog fleet

the montana class and other concept ships on the drawing board or under construction and eventually scrapped may exist in the fleet but it is unlikely, no mentions as of yet cover these ships either

the shinano was sunk as an unfinished carrier under a yamato class hull, so it is possible for the mental model to choose whether it may be a battleship or otherwise, such can also be said for Ise, hyuuga's sister ship which was not converted into an aircraft carrier kybrid unlike hyuuga in the fog despite ise actually being a hybrid battleship during ww2, this brings up the possibility that some ship classes are allowed to convert their form based on their terran counterparts

i also agree that shinano may play a very important role in the future of the fleet if she does indeed exist, whether or not she may be the admiralty code is uncertain and unlikely

i believe the admiralty code was that young girl the MM's of the oriental fleet saw into their vision, or perhaps what she originally looked like, it is possible that she may not be human but i doubt that if she were an MM she wouldn't just be any ordinary MM aside from her extremely powerful computational capacity, its possible that she did not need to hack maya since she made every ship in the fog she may also be able to access them freely as she did when she activated them the first and second time, it may be possible that shes an alien or even terran, unlikely organic since she hasn't aged a bit in over 100 years.. possibly artificial, perhaps the first MM, and she was probably stopped by Johaness Gauss, who along with his friend Kaworu Izumo investigated the white sand in ww2 and possibly convinced her to give humanity one last chance to redeem themselves, she may have built the fleet of fog as a response to mankinds cruelty, ignorance and negligence of the beautiful blue planet she grew fond of, she may have existed alongside humanity after the war and may have even been in the apollo 11 to watch alongside humanity their accomplishments since the war and help them realize the true beauty of earth and why they must treasure it

she may have also been in the challenger launch but is unlikely because of 2 things, her astronaut outfit is from the apollo program, and the challenger went down in flames.

answering post #3 on what the admiralty code may be

1. perhaps but unlikely

2. same as number 1

3. if she was an MM and did lose her ship then its likely that she used all the nanomaterials of what would have been a massive super capital ship and scattered it around the world in ww2, used all the material to scan and copy all the warships that existed while scattered in the ocean and created the fleet of fog based on all the weaponry, design's and concepts of her own ship, which explains all the unused super weapon designs nagato mentioned while talking about kongo's strange new superweapon

spoiler: about kongo's superweapon i've found that its actually a re-integration dock used to build, modify and upgrade ships of the fog fleet, the evidence was the 2 destroyers (i thought they were akitsuki class dd's but based on their profile it appears identical to the hibiki class destroyers which were inferior in ww2), and were being converted to submarines (possibly kaidai or junsen variants, attack submarines - which is rare among the fog since the submarine fleet is dedicated to reconnaissance and intelligence gathering) and would be used to challenge I-401, fight fire with fire as they say~

one union core is one MM, all the mini MM's are copies of the original personality but only one personality resides in the core, therefore all ships that have 2 unique MM's have 2 unique cores, which defeats the concept that one core is one ship, many union cores may be tied onto a single ship and be part a support system like hyuuga is while aboard I-401, this may also be true for yamato and nagato, but with yamato's partner its more likely that kotono amaha is more human than machine and may have nanomaterials flowing inside her as was the original perception of nanomachines were to observe, repair and interface with human cells in the field of medicine, it is very likely kotono has a union core housing her personality and authority as well her ability to support yamato's subsystems but while being able to do all that she is still human and is still in love with chihaya gunzo, which is why she made yukikaze a MM to observe I-401,  although kotono claims she is a copy of the original kotono its very likely she is still the original because of her love for chihaya gunzo

the admiralty codes earring as the thread starter forementioned is indeed the emblem of the fleet of fog and does not relate in any way to the emblem of the enterprise, every mental model and ship has this emblem etched on them when they fully activate their concept communication system (when the MM's talk in the concept comm's net their cheeks glow, when they activate their weapons their forehead glows with the cheeks, when they connect with their flagship their forehead, cheeks and chin glows, thus full activation) and when they are in combat, this is the panel for it: http://mangafox.me/manga/aoki_hagane_no_arpeggio/v05/c029/23.html

the admiralty code watched mankind since 1910 and hoped humanity would take care of the planet she grew to love, having witnessed the bloodbath of ww2 and realized humanities unmistakable cruelty she thus created a fleet of ghost ships to annihilate all of humanity to save the world, this was stopped when 2 people found her during their investigation and all 3 of them disappeared halting the activation of the fleet, she was likely convinced to give humanity another chance to redeem themselves, but without any guidance or direction they once again neglected the earth until the world's ice caps melted and destroyed 90% of all coastal cities on the planet, through their arrogance she awoke again in 2050 and saw the world engulfed in blood, she reactivated the fleet once more to prevent humanity from destroying whats left of the planet by severing all trade routes therefore stopping the use of all known pollutants in the world, mankind responded and lost and since then sacrificed their own to survive, humanity will never learn so why would she spare them? perhaps because she fell in love with one of them and saw the good side of humanity, whatever it may be her mercy towards humanity is not deserved, humanity does deserve nothing less than extinction..

sry for talking in this thread uninvitedly, im just a big fan of the series, im even making a fan doujin (not hentai) of aoki hagane focusing more on shinano's story as well as the admiralty code herself, but it wont be out for a while, sry for bumping the thread and i hope i didn't write too much, thanks :D

edit: i also just noticed while re-reading the manga that the original activation of the fleet of fog that began in May 1, 1945 also directly coincides with Yamato's disappearance within the fleet on the day of the Great War on May 1, 2052.. whether this is mere coincidence or not remains to be debated but the fact is that Yamato and perhaps even Kotono are directly related to this event by the sudden disappearance of the battleship yamato as well as the Japanese Navy Maritime Institute of Technology facility no. 4 Fire Incident
