The secret behind Rai's power?

When Rai uses his special attack on Urokai and Zarga, he turns into a giant Phoenix-like creature. We've seen similar transformations when each of the Clan Leaders used the special attacks of their Soul Weapons (Seira has a Grim Reaper, Zarga has a Dragon, etc.). Since Rai has no Soul Weapon - with Gajutel telling the Lord that Rai is pretty much a Soul Weapon due to his power - the answer to his powers might lie in that very trait. Since the Soul Weapons materialize a form when using a special attack, that might be the truest essence of the past Clan Leaders' souls; Seira's Grim Reaper could be a transformed version of the original Loyard Clan similar to Rai's Phoenix form.

Next, the transformations would get stronger as each successive Clan Leader went into Eternal Sleep and passed down their now-soul infused weapon to their heir (next Clan Leader). Now, in terms of Rai, since he has no Soul Weapon, a question comes up - since his power is bound to his blood and body rather than a material form, does that mean that his power was always as great as it currently is (minus the fact that his body is weak)? If each Clan Leader gets a stronger weapon than the previous generation, and Rai remains the strongest regardless, then does that mean his strength was God-tier from the beginning - albeit a glass cannon?

I believe the answer lies in his transformation. If his power is that of the Phoenix, then it's possible that Rai himself is reincarnated constantly, thereby allowing his power to increase during each generation. It has already been stated that:

  • The name Noblesse was given to only ONE person
  • Rai is THAT Noblesse - The Strongest Noble
  • Rai's power is in his blood
  • Rai has a Temple similar to the one where the past Lords go to Eternal Sleep
  • Rai uses that Temple to 'hibernate' for extended periods of time

So, instead of 'dying', Rai is just reborn each time. The cycle of death and rebirth is intertwined with Rai's transformation into a Phoenix; as noted by Frankenstein, the Soul Weapon is linked to the trait of clan, thus Seira's Clan of Death is linked to the Grim Reaper as Rai's transformation into a Phoenix would be to the cycle of reincarnation. That would also explain why a Noble like Gejutel, who looks much older than Rai, is in fact younger - it's unimaginable that a Clan Leader who was born before the Noblesse wouldn't know when Rai was born.

This trait of rebirth could also be a method to preserve the function of the Noblesse; as he is the eternal judge of his species, it would make sense that the same being would remain as that judge for all eternity - that is until the Nobles have changed enough, as per the wishes of the former Lord, thereby allowing Rai the chance to finish his duty once and for all.

Furthermore, the traits associated with the (East-Asian) Phoenix is illustrative of Rai:

  • Virtue of Benevolence, Charity, and Humanity
  • Honesty and Uprightness (incl. Altruism, Consideration for Others)
  • Knowledge
  • Faithfulness and Integrity
  • Correct Behaviour, Propriety, Good Manners, Politeness, Ceremony, Worship (aka ELEGANCE)

Now, with this, there's the question of why didn't Rai just reincarnate himself after fighting the traitors 820 years ago. Well it could be that his reincarnation process could've been hindered by the traitors. Furthermore, there could be a significant enough gap between the death and reincarnation process which could've been risky if the traitors decided to wage full war against all the other clans and Lord. Moreover, it could have to do with the need to hibernate on a night with the full moon; if he was attacked on a different night, he wouldn't have access to his coffin, etc. Also given the nature of his wounds, I doubt he even made it back to his mansion.

The last consideration is why the traitors were so surprised to see him alive. If his power was reincarnation, then they would've known he'd be back eventually. However, that's simply assuming that they knew his all of his powers. Since he was feared by his own kind, it makes sense that they were unaware of the extent of his abilities thereby allowing leeway for the secrets behind his powers and link to the Phoenix.

This... seems incredibly well thought out, though I think you might have grabbed at straws at the end there.

Since the Soul Weapons materialize a form when using a special attack, that might be the truest essence of the past Clan Leaders' souls; Seira's Grim Reaper could be a transformed version of the original Loyard Clan similar to Rai's Phoenix form.

If this is true and if Rai existed since the beginning of Lucadonia.. It may be that Rai is the last surviving member of his clan who happens to be the clan leader.. Since he was the clan leader and didnt die there won't be any soul weapons since the soul weapon is actually the clan leaders soul/power and Rai is still alive so it can be said that Rai himself is the soul weapon. This is just guesses and this doesnt explain why Rai is so powerful and why he can't use it without taking damage himself.

Since Rai has no Soul Weapon - with Gajutel telling the Lord that Rai is pretty much a Soul Weapon due to his power

I think your right on this. I would guess that the reincarnation is not as simple as coming back to life which might explain why he can't die at the moment and his needing rest can be explained by the fact that he is a soul weapon but unlike the others he isn't recharged every generation with more power, so every time he uses his power he's using the power of one powerful soul but one that can't expect to be recharged.

There's a chance that he just needs to rest for long periods of time to regenerate his life energy. Soul weapon obtained from Soul of previous Clan Leader. He might be the first and only, so he won't have one.

what if the origins of Rai's power is exactly the same as Frankenstein's, but with nobles instead of humans, that explains the overwhelming power.

say, a civil war occurred in the past, where to win, the nobles concentrated their power to a single individual to fight by sacrificing themselves.

that would explain the might of the power, the one-off nature of it, that is gets used up instead of refreshing as with the hereditary soul weapon everytime it gets passed on

it would be how the noblesse title comes about, both the defender and safeguard for the race

the outlook of Rai, he would do his job reluctantly instead of leaving. he has the literal weight of many souls residing in him to fulfil his duty and PTSD to explain the regret

I think it's much much simiplier. We know that a Clan Leader's Soul Weapon is made from the former Clan Leader's soul. But there has to be a starting point somewhere. In the case of Rai, he is the first and only member of his clan. As such, his blood is his power, and he doesns't need a Soul Weapon. Being the "original" Clan Leader of one's clan means that he must have out lived all the previous Clan Leaders. Which is why he's so much stronger. Imagine if each Clan Leader lives for about 5000 years. By the time the second one reaches that age, Rai would have lived for at least twice as long. Perhaps if Rai had a son, and decided to go to his eternal sleep, then there would be a Soul Weapon created from his Soul, and his clan would go on just like all the others, but I doubt that would happen, as I think he has accepted a promise with the first Lord, much like Geutel did with the former Lord, in that he would watch over Noble kind for as long as possible.

Rai doesn't transform into anything, got huge bloody wings is all). New clan leaders are way weaker, than their predecessors, so having better soul weapons doesn't mean all that much. Rai used to spam mind control, then resorted to the blood field. It came to the wings skill only when he started getting his ass kicked, while spamming blood fields. It would make sense, if 1st-2nd elders laugh that wings off, making him use something else. Rai applied wings, when pacifying Frank, who's pretty weak. And remember how blood field used to be totally OP? Anyway, nothing indicates, that there is nothing more in Rai's arsenal.

Oh, and we have no idea, how old anyone is. Lagus looks quite older, than Gejutel. The previous lord was considered extremely old, even by noble's standards. That very lord called Rai young and cared about him, as if Rai was a naive child, but then again he was abnormaly eccentric. The point is, we got no idea how old anyone of tough guys is. Millenia. But everyone is mortal nonetheless.
