I wouldn't have thought, that the supernatural element of the story would become such a major plot point, as it has become in the latest couple of chapters.

Same. I did thought that the super natural element to the story would be a support to the main plot but not blown up as big as this though.
Especally the recent chapter where
Although, I think that the secret organization has something to do with perfect twins sharing the same type of fate rather than predistined. If anything, its like cases of wide scale extreme experimentation for the "perfect" being?
Any ideas on what the future chapters may contain?
