Hello there!

I'm new around here :T
I just uploaded a chapter and noticed something, although small, annoying.
I've translated the comic to my mother language, but "Portuguese" has some variations (or versions).

There are 9 (or more) countries that speak portugues as their mother language, still, the diferences between Brazilian Portuguese and the European Portuguese are humongous.

For example (the meaning is like what it would mean for a Brazilian listening to a Portuguese (adj) speaking):

If someone stared at you and said, referring to your little and lovely daughter: "Your little whore is going to the beach today, huh?" you'd get mad and automatically punch the bastard saying this kind of thing, right?

A: Nope, in European Portuguese he's just saying: "Your little daugther is going to the beach today, huh?".

This alone is one of the reasons why Brazilians avoid European Portuguese, for us, the language seem like a totally mess (and it's the same situation for them), that's why software and stuff differenciates among the two languages, for the sake of the user (reader).

That's why I'm here today, to ask for the community for support for the differenciation of Portugueses (and the flags, obviously) in the language selection when uploading a new chapter!

Sorry for the long text :x
Hope you guys accept my suggestion :T
Cya!

It is still a dialect based variations and we sire do not play around with that and that will most likely not change.

It's not about variation, it's another language, completely.

2 + 2 = 4 but ((16^2) / 8) - (7 x 4) also equals 4. Just because "four" is the solution (Portuguese), the process to get to this solution isn't that simple, get it? Peter White is a criminal, Peter Blue, a lawyer, they are both "Peter", but they are not the same.

If it was for something as trivial as small variations, but it's not.
Also, if you have doubts about what I'm saying, try understanding this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0r2O_QdMmY

Just a small and random video showing differences between the languages.
Still, you guys must consider the history of both countries, that alone should change your minds.
Still...
Cya.

@edi for better understanding of what the video says:

Garoto = Boy
Brazil: Garoto = Boy
Portugal: Garoto = Coffe with milk

Uniforme = Uniform
Brazil: Uniforme = Uniform
Portugal: Camisola = Nightdress (the equivalent of the word in Pt-BR) = Uniform

Pedestre = Pedestrian
Brazil: Pedestre = Pedestrian
Portugal: Peão = Pawn (the equivalent of the word in Pt-BR) = Pedestrian

Aeromoça = Stewardess
Brazil: Aeromoça = Air-Hostess
Portugal: Hospedeira de bordo = Stewardess

Celular = Cell Phone
Brazil: Celular = Cell Phone
Portugal: Telemóvel = No equivalent word for Pt-BR = Cell Phone

Frio = Cold
Brazil: Frio = Cold
Portugal: Briol = No equivalent word for Pt-BR = Cold

Resfriado = Cooled (SICK)
Brazil: Resfriado = Cooled
Portugal: Estipado = No equivalent word for Pt-BR = Cooled

And the one word that only exists in Portuguese:

Saudade < This word means: I miss you, long time no see, and stuff.

dialects are still part of a singular, original language, regardless of any minor differences in translation (you must admit, the differences you listed above are only for specific cases, since normal conjunctions, basic vocab and the like aren't affected by dialect changes). so no, it's not gonna happen.

This has actually been talked about before, that's why you'll find we aren't as inclined to argue about it again.

Frankly, it's not going to happen, for numerous reasons.

One of them being that if we add Brazilian-Portuguese, we would no ground to deny other requests for similar additions.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias Doesn't have an entry of "Brazilian-Portuguese" either as far as I can see.

To add to what others have said:

According to wikipedia, "these differences are comparable to those between American and British English." (and apparently there's some unification going on)

Sorting out disagreements is not really something Batoto staff should be concerned with.

I've long given up hope for an Australian or a Scottish option.

For all those thinking of thanking me for the scanlations, I only upload them, and I'm just a mod here. Please leave a message on the actual groups' pages that do all the hard work.

That doesn't matter. You should add the language for the country that scanlates more manga. The brazilian portuguese scanlation community is way(insanely so) bigger than the european portuguese one, much like US' english is bigger than australian and UK.

You might not have noticed, but you can only select English, and it's indicated by the Union Flag, so there you go.

And as it has been thoroughly explained why it won't be changed, this thread is locked.
