I started dat thread because a LOT of discussion about the LN was going on here so I opened a thread specifically for LN stuff, spoilers and any predictions/speculations so that they aren't in the way elsewhere

Here some nice facts about Est:

The cute girl that likes to be kneesock- naked is Kamito's contracted sword spirit.

Her full name is "Terminus Est"

This is latin and means "this ist the end" or "it's the end"

 

The name of the sword comes from the book "The shadow of the torturer" by Gene Wolfe (publised 1980)

The sword belongs to Severian, a torturer and the narrator of the book and is a sword made for execution, being "light to raise, weighty to descend"

Furthermore, in the sword's spine there is a channel filled with poison.

It is double edged, but has a square end, so it cannot be used to stab some1 to death

At some point during the story, Terminus Est gets destroyed (Severian holds on to the pieces though)

Well, and there we got another interesting connection

 

So:

We know that the "original" Terminus Est was actually poisoned O_o

Terminus Est of this story is a demon sword, it cannot dispell curses, it simply gives them to its master.

Yes, it was the sword that killed off the previous demon king, but the curse killed the "sacred maiden"- its master. 

 

Est had no idea about it and then she realized that she was not a holy sword, but a demon sword as she granted power, but took the wielder's life in exchange.

The name of the "holy maiden" who killed the demon lord was "Areishia Idriss"

She contracted Est at the age of 14, died at the age of 16 

 

Est was VERY sad about that as she was actually, all the time, killing her master. Areishia knew that all the time and said that it wasn't Est's fault. After saying that, her body completely turns into a crystal and shatters into MANY pieces (I was almost crying when I read that scene)

Est was very sad about the loss of her master so she went down to the armory of the demon lord and hid among the many weapons so that nobody would ever contract her again

That's also the reason why nobody really knew where the sword was- it was hidden among all the scary weapons of the demon lord and the people there sealed all of the swords (interesting thing is that among the 72 spirits that were commanded by the demon lord, Restia was also among them)

Then eventually, she accepted Kamito's contract due to some "feeling" after rejecting MANY people over the 1000 years between the demon lord's death and the events of this story

 

Because of the trauma of losing Areishia, she sealed herself, granting Kamito only 10% of her powers (but also only 10% of the curse), but these 10% are still a LOT

Still, in terms of cuteness, she is the #1 character of this story

 

What will happen in the future?

Well, Est will provide a good share of funny situations similar to this one:

Don't hope for seeing Kamito wielding both Est and Restia at the same time, he does it in the LN volume 10... and we are only halfway through Volume 1

But when he does, he's gonna look really badass

The white one in his right hand is Est, the black one in his left hand is Restia (he usually hides the spirit seal on his left hand with a glove)

Don't worry, that's at the end of volume 10 and the anime is barely halfway through Volume 1, so don't worry, we won't reach that point anytime soon

And besides, all you see is Kamito holding Est AND Restia

And honestly, that's one moment everyone saw coming ever since we heard that the also contracted Restia before

 

And about spoilers:

I wrote "Majors  spoiler" above the spoiler tag where I wrote some details about what's gonna happen with Est

 

Outside of that, all you see is an analysis of the terms used there (especially Est's name "Terminus Est") and a picture of Kamito wielding both Est and Restia, I didn't say a word about the circumstances in which that happened, so feel free to get surprised by the story progression

Im looking forward to seeing how he plans to deal with Est and Rista.  They both are bit jelous of the other.  It should be a funny scene but im not expecting anything till after the blade dance is over.

  They still have that body and spirit snatching dude (in a girl's body) to deal with as well as the other contestants.  Im sure after weilding two sprits at the same time for the first time, Kamito will be spent after his fight with Rubia.

I just love it when they first spoke to each other. Saying not to get in each other's way lol. and one of the picture in Vol 11 is total epic. 2 girls in bed HAHA!!

I just read some of the chapters from vol 13. Lol at the fake demon king. How are going to get revenge on someone you cant remember anything about?

Ok, after finishing vol. 13, all I can say is, huh?

Mostly about how Ellis and Rinslet got that power up. Thats some old Samuri girls and sekeri stuff. I wonder if it was anything to do with what Rubia told Fiana in vol 10 about how the 4 of them able to be the darkness queen. Also, the war is about to start.

Im looking forward to vol 14.
