Hello!

I've been strongly considering learning Korean, particularly written Korean. I was curious if you guys had an approximate idea on how long it would take, in a casual setting, to become moderately comfortable reading the language. I've checked several sources(i.e. yahoo answers and ask.com), but the people responding to them give drastically different answers and are usually talking about speaking the language.

I'm interested because learning another language is something I've always intended on doing, as well as the fact that my job may end up bringing me to Korean in the indeterminate future. Also I like a lot of their webcomics.

Thanks for any input you guys have!

Learning a language really depends on your dedication, aptitude for languages your exposure to it and so on. If there are any studies regarding the time that it takes on average I don't know of them.

Its as easy as if you want to, DO IT.

If you are an undecided fuck with dreams and no will, suck it.

You need to be boring to do interesting.

Go to sleep awizard, you drunk.

Afaik, Korean is pretty straightforward to learn. I always end up comparing it to Chinese whenever I talk about languages because every single character is something completely different and even a small difference in the character leads to a different pronounciation and meaning.

If you want to learn Korean, go for it! This might help.

And when you get comfortable with it, practice by reading tons of webcomics on Naver. And the apply to be a translator here!!!

:excl:  Here's to the crazy ones.
