So, I just want to get a feel of what other's think. Just want to know if its just me and my nostalgia factor that's affecting my opinion on her design. So vote away.

I actually rather like it. Masamune was never known for good female character designs, they were all basically the same interchangeable melon-tits barbie dolls. The movies' designs were a step forward but still left her rather generic. This artist has made Motoko far less exaggerated and more realistic and distinct than either, which I definitely appreciate. She is a bit short for the role, though, and doesn't quite have the commanding aspect that one would expect, but there might be some reasoning behind that which will become clear later.

To be fair though she's a full-body cyborg. Has been most of her life too. That generic interchangeable form you speak of actually makes sense in the story in that her body has always been a custom military variant of the latest model. This new (or rather old) look is a reflection of that. Mass-produced "idealized" bodies with minor tweaks to differentiate are the norm in the GitS world.

As I recall, isn't Section 9 supposed to be... well, not necessarily completely secret, but at least not very public? Especially since in other versions of GITS she's been known to work undercover. A commanding presence works against those kinds of operations and Section 9's low profile, so this might be a version of her more concerned with appearing unassuming and being underestimated.

i think it was done purposely. Its a new series of a well loved & very well know Manga, in changing her even in the lil way they did, it made people talk about it. Creating buzz for anything new especially in showbiz is a must & they've deff succeeded. I think she looks great & who knows, its just begun, whos to say she wont change into a new body somewhere down the road.
