I have finished reading this all the way through, and I have developed a theory.

The reason why the world of Crepuscule is so unstable is because Karmilla was prevented from sacrificing her self by that Gilles de Rais bastard.

Karmilla began the process by dreaming it into existence, but was stopped halfway before she could sacrifice herself to complete it. They are actually living in her dream, and not a real construction like she planned. The crystal that Seere described seeing her in, is actually a prison of ice created by Gilles (his ability utilizes ice).

Also, since Karmillla was unable to provide the power needed to permanently sustain it, the world is constantly leeching what it needs from the younger generation of hybrids. That is why they suffer from shorter lifespans and diminished abilities when compared to the purebloods. When the world becomes severely unstable, it draws the necessary energy from a pureblood, causing it to continually bleed out and sending them on a rampage. The rampages could also be caused by Gilles deliberately since he seems to have some sort of control over Karmilla.

It was for these reasons, that Gilles feared Angela and wanted her out of the way. He was afraid that she would discover this during the course of her research and expose his perfidity.

I don't think Angela is really dead, but she is sleeping like she had for 200 years after being mortally wounded during the Erzbets clan leaders original rampage. I don't think we will be seeing her again, until the end of the series. T_T

I also think that Lark is really a powerful dream created by Karmilla, There is not enough information avaiable to understand how he ended up with human parents, but I believe he was created by Karmilla in order to help free her, somehow.

They don't need to liberate the world, they just need to free Karmilla so she can finish what she started all those years ago. Then the world will no longer be unstable, and everyones lifespans and abilities will return to what they normally should be. Lark will probably be made into that permanent reality as well, so he doesn't disappear when Karmilla dies.

It will probably all end with Angela waking up a few hundred years later, incredibly surprised to be greeted by everyone including Lark.

The End. =P

Interesting theory, could be. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The only part of it I hope I am wrong about is Angela.

I don't care if it is done through some cheesy method that blows the continuity all to hell, I want my Angela back dammit. T_T

I would be very glad to be totally wrong on that.

Ah well, you're more positive than I am............I think she's dead as a door nail. Sorry about that, but sometimes you've gotta break some eggs to bake a cake. Killing a well liked character is often a tact taken by authors to improve the overall story. These things happen.

I like effeminate bishounen MC just like the next person, but this is getting a little too anonying. Granted, not every manga should aspire to be Berserk, but still.. what the hell Lark? The closest person you have for your mom, has probably been murdered (honest hoping that I have been misled just like many, but torn throat is not a particularly serene way to die), at least missing... and you still can't overcome the "distraught/dreaming Karmilla" phase? Leaking tears from the eyes, lying on soft grass?!? Isn't it time already to don your red tattoed avatar & welcome your "evil/demon" personna with open arms?

Now that I think about it, maby it was Larks mother or father that was the dream created by Karmilla. The picture from his memory kind of looks like Karmilla, except not as beautiful (maby what she would look like without her Succubus features).

Lark could be a dream / human offspring. That may explain his red eyes.

I've seen stranger s**t in mangas....

well, your theory is a reasonable one.........since we've already got a character (Karmilla) who was known to have the ability to make dreams real........well, after that kind of plot device, the sky is pretty much the limit. The author could use that sort of theme to make just about anything happen.

And I really wouldn't be surprised to see Angela make appearances..........but my thought would be they'd be of the "dream" variety. Let's not forget her attacker was first generation also and was very confident she'd "disposed of" the body well..........she even went as far as to bring Angela's scalp back as evidence of her success.

Yes, her scalp... Which is extraordinarily disturbing for Crepuscule though after Karne's rather flashy death I suppose this shouldn't surprise me.

As for Gilles' potential involvement in the rampages, he's a huge Karmilla fan - the ice statue of her being a case example - so annihilating her entire clan seems a tad out of character. But if that's actually the case, Karne's rampage makes sense. I mean it got Gilles what he wanted (Navarus, and then Angela's death). Between Karmilla adoring and his extremely cruel games, it's hard to say if he's involved.

I like your theory though ^_^

...And miss Angela <.<,

Yeah, pretty harsh and disturbing indeed.......though not really unprecedented as far as historically speaking. A pretty common "trophy" or proof of ones deeds in battle.
