Its actually a fairly common thing in Japan for mothers to be a bit extreme when it comes to the raising/discipline of their kids. It's just considered to be their role in the family.

I have even read some stories about that, and please keep in mind this is a very VERY extreme example of the role of the mother in Japanese society and doesn't reflect the people as a whole in any way, but mothers have been found to at times have sex with their children in order to keep them focused on their studies and not spend time trying to find a girlfriend or waste time with thoughts of the opposite sex.

It has nothing to do with Japan specifically. Most mothers that actually try to be mothers are that way the world over.

I don't think it's considered incest if it's between cousins in Japan. In fact, there was a time when marriage between cousins was encouraged.

It's ok between cousins . I'm living in a country in which marriage between cousins is ok, the church approves it (orthodox church but it's the same in romano-catholic church) . The real problem is that normal people think is bad . Why? Because of gossips. Of course the approval of the family is pretty hard to obtain. Also the basic problem consists in older research which says the children obtained from relatives will be monsters . In fact the new research thinks the children are healthier .

About last reserch 'against' the union between cousins . You have more 2 % risks ! It's laughable and the research is made in states of USA considered against marriage of cousins.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD FOR REAL!? You're referring to mothers as a whole statistically? Or you're basing it from your background wherever you're from? I'm from the U.S but I've never heard of such things hitting the news before. I heard of church with boys, father molesting their daughter, school teachers with students, pedophiles online hunting bb kids, murders... but never seen or heard the news of a mom with her kid. Heck I'm Chinese, but I very much doubt parenting care even reaches such a level that the mom would be willing to have incest with their son for the sake of advancing their studies. In my perspective Chinese parents considered themselves as loving parents as long as they provide health care, food, and money to their kids while forcing them to study harder by taxing them with extra schooling besides their daily ones. There's practically no emotional care that you'll often see from the Caucasians and other races, unless they're converts from Christians, which I see as a huge flaw along with the over schooling part.

But anyway, where have you heard mothers would have sex with their son's?

I think its fairly normal for moms to have some moral high horse they constantly shove down the family's throat. Dad's tend to be more in touch with common sense and reality. I think the characters in this series are really realistic. The kids are absolutely retarded, the dad is cool, the mom's a bitch. Its what I like about this series

It's legal in the US too, there's just a lot of people who don't like it, but will never be able to properly argue it themselves.

Nope, Orthodox church forbids relatives of the three degrees to marry and/or to copulate. By degrees I mean brother/sister, cousin, children of parents' cousins.

I think the focus was lost a little in this topic.

 

The reason the mom comes off as so pointlessly harsh is that no one else is nearly as bad.

 

She just parrots what she was raised to be believe and doesn't give a second thought to the crap she spews. Just because this can potentially be realistic doesn't mean it's right.
