I think bunch of you out there is confused about the recent changes around the forum, so just for you lost sheeps, I'll update you all on the news:

1. HND has been dropped
2. New tranlsator, Bacteria will be TLing Thesis instead of me
3. We'll be picking up a new project: Dr. Frost, few of you have seen this on IRC
4. Since that only leaves Haruki 3 series and she hates being underworked and not being stuck under whole pile of work, I'll be picking up BB again~

You can go to the forums main page (http://vatoto.com/forums/) and scroll down to the "Comics" section and choose the letter "T" from the "All Comics" heading...

Or you can follow this link (http://www.batoto.co...1-tower-of-god/). Gee aren't I nice? I made it easy for you...

Easy as pie...

Actually, easier...

and me being ungratefull litle shit i have to complain  you see we readers are like drug adicts and we like our dose on time :S you see a wile ago you translated ToG and we could expect it to be like noblese like hot bread out of the oven it was fresh out of naver same day or max the next day ... then you started translating it 4-5 days later but you did it for some weeks and we got used to it then you started serving hot bread again (fresh fast translations) and not it varies it ether comes the next day or at the end of the week and kubera wich first you speed translated catching up with the curent chapters now you translate 1 week later atleast thats how it was for 2-3 weeks now the moment the new chapter comes up the last chapter gets translated

but no mater if i complain or not i love you guys thank you for translations

lastly the litle english i know is from animes and moovie subtitles but i have a budy wich learned it instead in manga his teacher got him some long series of 600 chapter manga and told him to translate it from english to his mother language then gave him movie subtitles and so on

why dont you recruit some 14-16 year old students from korea ?

First off let me for my part tell you yes you're an ungrateful little shit.

I don't work on either ToG or Kubera and happily so because weekly's are way to stressful.

Now I just gonna explain to you how much effort, time and dedication goes into weekly releases.

A team working on a series is usually composed of an international team of volunteers living in different timezones and under different circumstances. The original chapters is released at a certain time which may be midnight for one or morning for the other in the team. Under worst circumstances this leads to a one day delay as people have to sleep then go to work/school/whatever on the next day and can only get to it in the evening. Without going to much into detail on every step of the translation process there are 4 main steps to do: 1. Translate  2. Clean  3. Typeset  4. Qualitycontrol

Each of these four steps usually take some hours depending on the difficulty of the chapter and the expertise of the person, it can easily go up to 4-5 hours of straight work. With ToG you often see 3 people cleaning a single chapter because the redraws are just obnoxious and splitting it up is the only way to get it out on time at all. The next issue is that it can't be done simultaneously but in order, before you can typeset something it has to be translated and cleaned and after everything is done,it needs to go through quality control to check for the inevitable errors or improve on grammar, language etc.

So releasing a chapter right on the next day is an almost impossible feat of work and organization which to keep up on a weekly schedule is just crazy.

The people who are working on your ToG or Kubera do this for a hobby and have a life and responsibility besides scanlation. Like a job, children, family or school. They can get ill, extra homework which needs to be done or a mean job which makes them work overtime. Then they also need their breaks, their days off to go party or just hang out with friends. For only one week sure you can reschedule things, neglect your homework or do work past midnight to get it done. But doing it for week after week after week for maybe a year, which are roughly only 50 chapters, there are bound to be days where you just can't get it done in time.

In that light having a weekly schedule with a delay of only some days or maybe a week is an awesome feat.

And pls stick that idea about the koreans up your ass until it reaches your brain and maybe then you notice what a shitty comment that is.

The vast majority of Korean students either don't know enough English to fluidly translate, do not have the will to translate, or do not have the confidence to translate. Yes, you read the last one correctly :P When faced with even an easy English passage, the first question that goes through their mind is "Does this appear on the test?" If yes->hack at it and manage to get it right, if no -> bail bail abort scram argairhgarg the sky's falling!

Two, Korean students don't have time, either. Too busy dealing with hellschool and playing games and stuff o.O

Three, there is no three.

Hey if it's just a problem of language than wouldn't it work to have a Korean do a rough ( some grammar mostly word for word ) translation and then have a fluent English speaker piece it all together?

No, this leads to mistranslations. Some words or phrases can have several meanings - if the translator is not fluent with English he/she might choose the wrong translation. And if the person "fixing" the script wasn't a Korean translator too, they'd have to come up with a few possible versions for the "problematic" lines. Then, they'd have to contact the translator and try to find out which version (if any) is the correct one. Then, they'd have to go through the script again to see if it holds up as a whole.

And if the people fixing the scripts were Korean translators, especially good ones, then they'd probably find even more things to change. Most of the Korean translators I know would rather translate a script from a scratch than make a translation check for one that was translated by someone with poor English-speaking skills.

Mkay thanks for the clarification. So how is the company? Are you guys still an active group?

On another note after sending in an application how long do you think it takes to get a response?

Thank,
SK

There are two main projects - Tower of God and Kubera. Both have weekly releases (not counting the breaks + the occasional slips in schedule). Other than that there are also two semi-active projects. The rest has been dropped, I think.

About your other question - I'm not sure. I've never actually went though the application process myself - I just expressed my interest in cleaning Kubera and when the position opened up, I was recruited. Then again, the staff knew me from back when my old team had a joint project with tC, so it's a bit different.

Also, I'm not sure if they're looking for proofreaders atm. This thread says that only translators are being recruited, but I'm not sure when it was last updated.
