Somehow I managed to finish this but yeah, that ending felt chessy and rushed. Was that even a kiss?
I agree that the ending felt rushed. We didn't really get to see much at all of the development of the romance.
In my opinion the whole story started going in a bad direction once

Well, it was clear the end was approaching; the contradictions were sharpening, forcing the story towards a resolution.
But yeah, one chapter was awfully fast. I'd say three would have been better, or at least two.
Hmm ending...rushed much? That just completely felt like a 'you've been cancelled so wrap it up in one chapter' ending. I was like, wait? what? We're just gonna toss this together in one scene after dragging it out six volumes!
So we have an update. Thanks Transcendence!
Aaand we have another cliffhanger, steeper than the last. $%#@!

So this chapter has, let's see, one, two, arguably three and possibly even four cliffhangers all at once. I hope against hope that there will be more updatification soon.
