I've been getting the feeling recently that our favorite Noblesse has been grooming his succesor, in the form of Frankenstein. I'm inclined to believe that Rai will die at the end of the series despite everything else. If the subject of where Noblesse come from has been touched on in authors blogs or whatnot I welcome any corrections to my theory. What do you all think? Plausible? Or just another shot in the dark?

I don't know. but I doubt Frankenstein will be the Noblesse heir since he is a human.

Perhaps Noblesse are chosen by "destiny" since they are born, or have a lineage.

Frankenstein can't become the next noblesse since he's human. Rai's like the main character so i doubt he will die until the final every chapter. Given what we've recently been told about the life of a noblesse i don't think its passed on genetically since they don't get much chance to meet women. My guess is that he gets souls from the previous noblesse like the clan leaders except they don't take on a physical form like a soul weapon instead they supercharge rai's body giving him control over blood. when it's time for rai to pass on he'll choose someone worthy to take on the duty and pass the souls on to another noble.

I think people are getting hung up on the wrong part of the concept of the individual called Noblesse... the ORIGIN of his power is not so important as his traditional role, which was to keep the Nobles in check... now however one might question the continued importance of that role, because the other groups over whom they once could have held absolute dominion have instead become more powerful than before, powerful enough that they might hold their own one day not so far from now perhaps even to the point of challenging the Nobles.

The traditional role of the Noblesse I believe is fast drawing to a conclusion, his role has changed from being the Sword of Damocles suspended over the Nobles he has become almost unnecessary, his role (which saw him being so isolated and feared) is a remnant of the old order, his role now may cease to be necessary or perhaps he might be able to change with the times in order to change the purpose of the role of 'The Noblesse' to be something more akin to one who provides a means by which different groups might live in relative harmony or at least a forum by which they can communicate.

Thats intresting, but would the noblesse not get more powerful with each generation although we don't even know how old rai actually is but i think its safe to assume that the title of noblesse is passed along with the soul of the previous noblesse just how clan leaders leave their soul to the next head because the noblesse is the symbol of power it would make sense that with each new noblesse their power grows in order keep the balance otherwise there would come a time when the clan leaders could simply overthrow the noblesse. I think the previously static nobles will begin to change and along with this change the purpose of the noblesse will also change.

The theory that frankenstein could be the next noblesse sounds intresting but the fatal flaw here is frankenstein is still a human although hes a human that can live for hundreds of years and fight the noble clan leaders as equals and still come out ontop he also gained this power as a human hundreds of years before the union started experimenting on humans,

I had the idea that maybe Rai doesn't die when his life span comes full circle rather than death he is simply reborn and with each cycle he gets stronger but this is purely speculation since there is no evidance to back this up.

I like the idea that Rai doesn't die but is reborn like a phoenix, however, if this were the case Rai would have been better off if he had been reborn before he awakened. Also, given Frankenstein's concerns over Rai's health rebirth seems more and more unlikely.

Given that the noblesse hibernates for long periods of time, likely proportional to the life energy expended while using his powers, the average life span of a noblesse is probably little different to other nobles. However, since they spend so much time sleeping they probably enter their eternal sleep later than others of their generation so how many generations is Rai behind the other nobles.

Hmm,

I don’t think that there will be a successor because in one of the early chapters (before chapter 100 ( too lazy to search)) Frankenstein told M-21 that Noblesse is not a title given to the race but to one being which means that Rai always had the name and unlike the lord which takes the name after he claimed the throne I believe he will carry the name, postiton,  till the end not necessary the end of the world but perhaps the nobles maybe at the end of the series they decide to live with the humans as humans and maybe even marry them and mate thus marking the end of the pure bloods  so no pure bloods aka clan leaders no need for the noblesse

But personally I hope he gets revived like jesus, maybe that's where the legend of jesus came from ( In the Noblesse universum)

The previous Lord said that Rai has been alive for far longer than the rest of them, so it doesn't clearly state that there was a Noblesse before Rai. He could have been the only Noblesse in existence just watching over the Nobles, and after seeing Nobles and Lords come and go he decided to isolate himself into his mansion for years and years. Since Rais' power uses up his Life Force in return for using it he must have a large, beyond comprehensible amount of power/Life Force, because he would need that much to keep all the Clan Leaders/Nobles in order. So I'm guessing that once Rai goes into Eternal Sleep, he may be the First and also the Last Noblesse. Hopefully by the time Rai enters Eternal Sleep, he would have dealt enough influence on the Clan Leaders/Nobles so they teach their Heirs and their Heirs teach theirs, and so on to be justice and whatever else they are obligated to  do. So eventually there would no longer be a need for a Noblesse to watch over the Clan Leaders/Nobles. Then again it could be that If Rai goes into Hibernation long enough, he could get back partial/most of his Life Force again allowing him to continue living and keeping watch over the Clan Leaders/Nobles. Lets just hope Frankenstein can find a way to live alongside Rai if he does manage to get back his lost Life Force through some method. :D
