I just uploaded it on mangadex, so go there I guess. I don't know where else to post it so yeah.https://mangadex.com/manga/12686

Comrade Cam-sama, thanks a lot for this chapter.
I've just looked at your blog and it could be a great place to link your chapters.

I just uploaded the next chapter (12 and subject to review still) but since I haven't been able to read comics for a bit on here, I'm also going to be uploading it on mangadex and reddit. I will post links here when I do.

GODDAMNIT MAENO (ಠ益ಠ)ლ

Tanuki princess was pushed into this as well,

I know this was said before the recent chapter, but lol at her being forced into anything. Her parents doesn't want her to have any association with the mc's group.

You forgot that male tanuki is a stalker, hiding away, one-sidedly investigating the heroine, violating her privacy, and magically expecting her to like him despite the fact he doesn't actually talk to or spend time with her.
Female tanuki is a suitor, tries to be helpful, talks to the MC, tells him about herself, and is trying to build affection by communicating and spending time with the MC and showing that she wants him to be happy with her.

That part about magically expecting someone to like him despite doing nothing to earn her respect, recognition, or affection, is what makes Gonsuke a creepy nuisance. That part about him imagining that he has a relationship with her despite not spending time together or communicating with her is what makes him beta.

Miyo has done everything that gonsuke has done. She's a creepy nuisance

I agree with you completely. I'd also hate for anyone to dictate how my life should go and if i ever have children in the future, i'd also give them the same freedom that i was given. I guess i just don't get the passion other people have for this particular series.

It'd be easier to gloss over if the story could fall back on humor. Personally, I don't happen to find it funny, so all that's really left for me to critique are the negatives

As was indicated in one of the early chapters, you could all do yourselves a favor by reading the Wikipedia article about the Awa Tanuki War.

Spoiler

In my case I'd say it's precisely the opposite:  I react to this sort of thing because nobody in my life would dream of trying to control my life like that; my parents would have considered such behaviour horrifying, and the idea of trying to do that to my daughter horrifies me.  I value freedom and autonomy strongly.  Some people may be accustomed to it, people from some cultures may be accustomed to it, but to me it's just abuse (and frankly, I think accepting that kind of coercion is a bad thing about those cultures, much the way promotion of greed and conspicuous consumption is a bad thing about my culture).

I guess i just don't get the passion other people have for this particular series. I mean it's about getting engaged to a bipedal tanuki that transforms into a beauty with huge plots. I'd usually expect more laughs. There's even a chuuni tanuki that wears sunglasses over his eyepatch. I guess a huge contributing factor is the fact that the story is set in a way that almost guarantees that by the end, the parent's wishes are granted since the OTP for this seems to be with the tanuki. It also doesn't help that the other girl is pretty bland in comparison. Still, even though i don't fully understand their angle, i'm not against them since everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

That would explain some of the very negative reactions to this series, too.  The father and grandmother in that series are basically forcing the MC to marry one of a collection of youkai girls, without explaining to him that he himself is half youkai.  Similar to this tanuki series, where the MC is told very early on that he has tanuki blood.

Haven't read that yet but will definitely give it a try. Thanks for the heads up. In that series' case though, i'll probably just ignore the comments lol.

These stories about forced marriages never really bothered me. Idk, I was raised in America, and I have basic American values, but the story of MC being forced to marry some spirit/youkai/whatever never inspired my ire. We are all of us bound by relentless fetters, regardless of culture or creed; the only difference among us is that some of us know, for better or worse, what those chains binding us are. ...why the fuck am I writing so damn eloquently?

Looking forward to seeing how armies of shapeshifting dogs fight.

After reading a few comments, you'd really start to think that some of these people who have posted comments have some sort of 'controlling parents complex' and are being shoehorned into something they don't want to do.

I dunno man. There's probably similar stories from earlier works yet this is the first one i've seen with such passionate reactions.

oh no, not this...

I was beginning to wonder if you guy's had disappeared altogether...

Sorry guys, for taking so long to launch the next chapter, it was not our translator's fault, but mine. If our translator is still available he should be releasing the next chapter soon.

I'm still good to go

Sorry guys, for taking so long to launch the next chapter, it was not our translator's fault, but mine. If our translator is still available he should be releasing the next chapter soon.

FWIW, this series is complete in Japan, at nine volumes and 75 chapters.  At a quick glance through the pages, I cannot tell whether this series was axed, or allowed to be completed as originally planned.  Nine volumes, though, seems to indicate a graceful conclusion.  And the conclusion itself is pretty nice, or seems to be without going to effort of doing a real translation.

Chapter 10 was the second chapter in the second volume.

You forgot that male tanuki is a stalker, hiding away, one-sidedly investigating the heroine, violating her privacy, and magically expecting her to like him despite the fact he doesn't actually talk to or spend time with her

  • Everything that you described the guy doing, she's pretty much done as well (especially the part in bold). The MC has made it clear that he's not interested in marrying her, but she's going to shove herself into his life until he changes his mind. Barging into his room without permission, following him to school, and sneaking into his bed while he's asleep with the reasoning of wanting to have kids are all pretty clear violations of privacy

Female tanuki is a suitor, tries to be helpful, talks to the MC, tells him about herself, and is trying to build affection by communicating and spending time with the MC and showing that she wants him to be happy with her

  • As far as I can see, the only difference between Miyo's "suitor" status and the other tanuki being a stalker is the fact that the MC's parents are okay with selling off their son. Parents' permission or not, the two tanukis are both completely ignoring the wishes of the people they're seeking a relationship with. The male tanuki is trying to be helpful too albeit in a selfish, delusional way. He sees the MC as some kind of threat/ kidnapper and is trying to save Miyo from him

That part about magically expecting someone to like him despite doing nothing to earn her respect, recognition, or affection, is what makes Gonsuke a creepy nuisance. That part about him imagining that he has a relationship with her despite not spending time together or communicating with her is what makes him beta

  • Not denying that Gonsuke's a nuisance. But if you call him one, I just think you have to call her one as well.

"Hi, we just met but I'm in love with you and stuff. That being said, I'm gonna need you to sacrifice your privacy, any current love interests you may have, any career prospects you may have, your freedom of choice whether or not to have children, any desires to travel outside of your hometown that you may have, your future, your free will and your humanity all for me! Why, you ask? My race is dying or something and your mom said it's okay. Anywho, come and let me strap this ticking time bomb to your wrist. I know that it's barely been a week since you've gotten over the shock of learning that I'm a magic talking dog, but get it together and fuck me. Mama wants some youngins"

They're both kind of pieces of shit, one just gets a free pass because she's one of those maidens-in-love that writers all depict the same way. These are the kinds of stories that perpetuate that "Just suck it up! You're a man, aren't you?!" cliche that pops up far too frequently. It's not a good cliche

Are you fundraising for tropes vs men in manga? If so, I'll put in my two cents:

You seem to be playing down the fact arranged marriages are a two way street. Tanuki princess was pushed into this as well, albeit willingly. And despite his predicament and through his objections, the MC doesn't show any hatred towards her but rather the asinine situation brought on by his shitbag parents. They are both in a bad situation, and are coping with it in differing manners. One through submission, the other through rebellion. And from what I've seen, they are both pretty sympathetic. There's also the element of her not being human, which, if played right, could add some needed depth of character (Ah My Goddess and Spice and Wolf for example). Maybe at some point, she removes the wristwatch and lets him be his own man, and he sees her as more than a shape-shifting dog (and this is probably the most likely scenario). Lest we forget arranged marriages are still a thing, we should see how it all plays out before this turns into the message board for Murabito desu ga Nani ka.

What part of Miyo is NOT delusional? She has quite frankly stated she's mc-kuns wife to be and is pursuing a happy family life with him disregarding his own will. Then again, every series like this is fucked up. They all rely on some sick form of Stockholm syndrome where you gradually start caring/falling in love with your obsessive stalker'ish suitors. Your own will? Fuck that. Your pre-existing relationships? fuck that. Already love someone? Who gives a shit, they'll basically zombie-charge MC until his barriers have been worn down sufficiently.

Male tanuki is clingy and annoying while seeking a relationship = he's such a creepy nuisance

Female tanuki is clingy and annoying while seeking a relationship = romantic comedy heroine
