the developments of IS arcs(after seeing this section for the 4th time now across media), especially these that are supposed to be character intros, really make me wonder why IS even got anywhere at all as a series. Then I remember that the characters exist for wish-fulfillment and thus are okay if they remain with their dodgy and nonsensical characterizations as long as they provide the fan service.

I don't know if it is because they came after IS, but other series I have mentioned below did it waaaaaaaaaaaay better doing the time allocated. I mean seriously, Ichika as an MC is so terrible. If not for plot dictating everything, the guy would do absolutely nothing. I'm not even talking about the whole being dense thing, I mean being a main character in a mecha. The rest? Might as well forget the whole 'international' element altogether later on in the story. I always wonder why I am so quick to put other series like say Date A Live(which also has nonsense for its action scenes and characterization) higher than IS and this chapter just cemented my reason. Big LN series sometimes have convoluted plots that really make you wonder why you aren't just reading a proper novel but this one just piles it on. The "antagonists" of the series are so badly handled you have to struggle to keep up with their motivations.

I don't mean to be that harsh, but this series severely tests me. I have my favourites from the cast as well and love to see them have importance, but the shear inconsistent bullshit involved with the process is unbearable. It is further aggravated when people(not on batoto btw) compare better series to this one. Like, saying "X" character is worse than Ichika when X character actually had consistency, was more likable, and overall a better guy. Not saying that Ichika is at the bottom of the barrel, but in his particular tropes department, he sure is. I mean, c'mon, this chapter alone clarified that romance was some childish factor with no depth whatsoever even by harem romcom standards(Okay, I admit that part is bias, since I've seen much worse). We see a near identical repeat later on as well.

Mixed with Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance, mixed with Dragonar mixed with....... ad infinitum. We'll get nowhere if we make comparisons.... I mean... carbon-copy wouldn't be too far off in some areas. Still, Saijaku Bahamut does MANY things better.

Nevertheless, it is Hundred that is almost a clone of IS. The MC even has near identical model of mecha suit. Major difference is that the ecchi and romance actually gets somewhere and gets there pretty fast.
