Second, fair warning: I generally assume that when people ask a question they really do want an honest answer. If you don't actually want an answer that's intended to be constructive criticism (but might hurt your feelings), please don't open the spoiler.

(When I say "your translation", I'm talking about the wording chosen by your whole group. Please don't think that "your" means "you as an individual".)

 

None of the following really stood out to me until I read KenjiKay's comment. I had already realized that I didn't find it very satisfying to read, but I didn't understand why.

 

After I read KenjiKay's comment, I went back and re-read the last chapter and this chapter. I have a terrible memory and I watched Horrible Subs' copy of the Crunchyroll sub (not a fansub), so I might have missed a detail somewhere... but I didn't see anything in your translation that jumped out at me as explicitly wrong. No jelly donuts, thankfully. (˃̶᷄‧̫ॢ ˂̶᷅๑ )

 

However, I did notice that the wording is often terse and stilted - which suggests that it's a direct copy (or a timidly-edited copy) of the wording from someone who is 1) still in the process of learning English 2) trying to avoid making big mistakes but still making small ones 3) often translating literally instead of making the connotation clear. It's more obvious in the previous chapter (17), but you can still see it in the current chapter (18).

 

A good example of #3 from the current chapter is in the middle of page 19. The wording in your translation is "Love: Women shall advance forward". Crunchyroll's (episode 18, at 9:10) is "Love: Women will do well to take the initiative". Your translation is probably literally accurate, but it completely loses the connotation.

 

A good example of #2 and to some extent #3, on page 16 of the current chapter, is "Then we see you tomorrow. Oh, it's already tomorrow." Crunchyroll's (same episode, at 7:06) is "See you tomorrow... Oh, it's already today!" Your translation has one minor but still understandable grammar mistake ("Then we see you tomorrow"), and doesn't convey the nuances very well - i.e. that Yamato is being ditzy / getting flustered, and tripping over her words.

 

My apologies if I'm beating the point into the ground... but to give you an idea how common this is in chapter 17, some of the examples that are obvious even without comparing to Crunchyroll are:

Page 6 - "Wahhhhht?" (should be "Whaaaaat?"), "Goddess! Goddess!" (sounds like they're calling Takeo a goddess), "I thank you for being so happy" (sounds like he's glad she's happy, should probably be "Thank you for making me so happy")

Page 11 - "I'm sorry, somehow I was waiting over there." ("somehow" should be taken out because English isn't as polite as Japanese), "...it was said that we still can get a reservation" (should be "...they said we can still get a reservation")

Page 12 - "You can see this tree from all rooms. In the night it's much more beautiful." ("from all rooms. In the night" should be "from all the rooms. At night"), "Furthermore there is legend about this tree." ("legend" should be "a legend"), "...there is one star which has another form than the others." (should be "...there is one star that is different from the others.")

* - I would be glad to help, but because my understanding of the nuances of the Japanese language is very limited, I would need to frequently ask for explanation when the wording is too terse or confusing. I'm sure this would be incredibly annoying. Those who are more familiar with Japanese and would understand many of the connotations without having to ask would be a far better choice, if there's anyone like that who loves Ore Monogatari and wants to help.

Somehow that bit made what he was remembering even funnier than the first time around.  I cracked up so hard.

Another awesome chapter, all the brilliance that is Ore Monogatari . . . hilariousness, sniffle-inducing romance, heartwarming bromance, nice little bits of characterization, Takeo just being inimitably Takeo . . . does it all.

Gonna go read it again.

Two long-overdue comments:

1) Chapter 12.5: I'm too old and jaded to intensely feel much anymore. Not even Clannad: After Story could make me cry (because it felt too contrived)... it took Kanon to do that.

This chapter is the first time in decades that I can remember when the opposite (too heartwarming, not too heart-aching) came extremely close to making me cry. But even without that it's still incredible (on the verge of "great" in the old sense of the word) writing, with wonderful art to support it.

The cover almost tricked me into thinking it was a shounen manga and I had clicked on the wrong manga...

I love how this manga makes fun of nearly every trope in the manga universe.  The authors are definitely geniuses at it, and yes, the cover was hilarious.
