Trips lol now you're contradicting what you've said in the first place. The thing you just commented (or at least its concept) is what we've been trying to tell you. I can't even begin to find the right words to describe it; it seems you're just spouting loose talks. Look at the first comment you posted and the recent one. If you still couldn't get it I'll explain it word by word in my next reply (I'm lazy right now).
@wintercry

Well I didn't expect to have to explain this certain sentence but ok.

You can enjoy "ugly" yet interesting things, lets say work of art. It may look crappy but if you understand what author wanted to show/explain etc. you may enjoy it. Same with games (your example) or you can even refer this to ppl that aren't too attractive but they are really fantastic partners in discussion.

The thing is:
Would your friend liked OP if he didn't enjoy shounens?

@Partysan
Thanks for your answer.

Well I like to identify myself with some chars so maybe that is why I tend to take some things more personal than other readers.

You liked manga part because it was really superb or just romance part wasn't that good?
@Trips: I would agree with you if not for one thing: it' actually a nice example of personal freedom. As you might have noticed even the other characters in the manga find the kind of relationship they have a bit creepy. I would, too. I'm on your side in how I value it.
But, and that's a big but here: No one else is affected by their choice of relationship and they seem to be happy with it. They have made that choice for themselves, and they knew what hardships came with it. Yet that's what they wanted. Now if they are happy and no one else is affected, how could I ever say that's a bad thing? Their choice. They made it. They're happy. It's great! And no one is telling us to do it the same way. We can choose otherwise. We will. Takagi did. And we will not let us be judged by others for what makes us happy. And not judge them.

General point: What I found most interesting in the manga is actually the analysis of manga art and storytelling techniques. I tend to value the meta side of things.
"It's normal you can enjoy 'ugly' yet interesting things?" Where is this based on? Yourself? Then it's not going to make any point at all. Your explanation isn't any better than mine, in fact, yours didn't even make any sense to be exact.
Your example is bad because its normal you can enjoy "ugly" yet interesting things. But if you don't like concept, chances you will love certain product are fairly low.

I totally understand why people would like this series for this rare and interesting insight to the work of mangaka and all these people around him. Its just buggin me now how many of Bakuman fans switched their main interest from romance to shounen and why.
You sure about that? Let me give you an example: One Piece. I know someone in the past who thinks it's crap to the point of always ridiculing it because of its art, one of its ingredient as you say; but now, when he actually tried it he loved it and the art grew on him immediately. The same can be said for this series, you'll never really know unless you actually give it a good try.

Just like I said, there's more to this manga than romance. Just go read shojo or something if you're so concern about a couple's future happiness.

And yes, we are too old for that; but we, excluding you, don't see it that way. Like I said, I can say with atmost certainty that people reading Bakuman couldn't care much about its romantices and are in it for the manga rivalries.
Well you are a bit rude AnDrOidX18X43.

Still you can easily find out something won't taste good if you don't like some ingredients.

I know that I don't like basic idea of this series and I don't need to pass XXX chaps to prove it to myself. You just know you like it or not.

I asked question to find out why fans just take that two people may be happy for half of their life by being apart with their other half they love so much. Does any girl thought "wow, that would be really nice."? Any guy thought, "I wish to pass this kind of a test as a man"?

I may be a bit too old for some corny answers like "because their love was so pure they could pass even this harsh test of time" but hey, if ppl like this manga for this its fine with me. I was just curious, that is all.
This is the best non-mainstream battle manga there is...
Trips

I didn't read this title much, can you tell me why you like it? For me it would be torture.

Not to be rude but that's uneducated criticism since you didn't even finish the series. It's like saying some food taste horrible without even actually tasting it in the first place.
Well, if I must say, I didn't follow it for the romance; I followed it to see Ashirogi Muto's progesses, their fight against other authors specifically. And I think the people who actually enjoyed and understand Bakuman have the same mindset.

If you want real "meaningful" romance there are always shojo mangas out there. Or read romcom or whatever. Bakuman was a dream themed manga just like St&rs in the first place. It's just wasn't obvious since the editor's comment wasn't translated.
I must admit that pure idea of that manga is kinda disgusting. Don't get me wrong, I understand romance and all. But being apart with your so called "love" for years, means that you lost so much time to love each other. And if they would have some really important reasons, things they had to end before they could marry each other. But no, they just took idea from god know where and use it to what? What was positive side of their promise?

I didn't read this title much, can you tell me why you like it? For me it would be torture.
@Sanh Thach dont worry im pretty sure a special chapter will soon be published.. i think they call it banghaiden? xD
Maybe is juz me but I think it should end at when I see the Bell go dong-dong seeing them in wedding suit u know ....juz to show tat they finally made it since all the things they been thru & they kept their promise . & he propose to her
About chapter 139, page 10...
Spoiler
@Union-san

Dude, you serious?

Awesome manga! Should definitely be bothered to read it.

In terms of fan service, there isn't much at all... so don't worry about it.
This looks so long. I'm getting lazy. Should I read this? Fan service is too extreme for me.
I really like the character designs. Much more varied than Death Note (which I didn't really care for).
2 months later i find myself still hung up~ *re-reading*
Ah the feeling that you get when the ending is just the good ending not that there are things that are unfinished.
Ending was good but I feel like there needs to be another chapter.
I.. I..- I'm a jaded finance professional that swims with sharks.. but I can't help but my dazzled by the purity of their love and tear up a bit.. ooohhh!
Great manga, fantastic ending (although a little abrupt closing scene).

Thank you Ouba and Obata-sensei for bringing such a fantastic manga.
Just read this again, and not only did I enjoy it, but I started to notice various things, like what's happening in the manga the characters are making could have been what happened to the actual manga, Bakuman. Also, some of the characters that were tossed aside seemed to be tossed aside because Muto got to such a high level, they couldn't even compete.
Anyone else think that Hattori's face looks like Bert's from Sesame Street?
Although, i kept refusing the idea that such pure love could exist, even for a manga, but truth is I'm a little moved after all.
