You could very well get the best cook in the country and ask him to try other countries recipes, for that matter.

You are thinking in the context of a globalised world.

The best cook in the country would probably be versed in the ways of local and high class cuisine, not in exotic and non traditional ingredients needed to support the countries need for food.

Also why strart from scratch when theres already  a dude (clearly pasionate) that has already the knowledge.

They need the knowledge right now btw, they cant have the luxury of taking their time.

so the fat guys talent was just that he has eaten everything... really?
i was expecting something interesting like him being extra smart, military strategist, well traveled and knows the land, a brilliant merchant or something like that.
so what if he has eaten everything? why the fuck is that something that will save the country? is he just a human guinea pig to see whats edible?

"hey fatty, see that lump of green stuff over there. go taste it and see if it's edible"

Considering your avatar is Asirpa, you should know all about how valuable, "go taste it and see if it's edible." is when agriculture is scarce.

This particular one has many downs but very interesting few ups that keep me hooked. If the author avoided those downs, this work could have been more popular, very unfortunate. Out of all the downs, I wish at least the author give mc some new outfit, who the hell wears the same uncleaned outfit everyday to the royal court.

Did they HAVE to make the fat guy fall over, I mean was it it really necessary.

Yes it is. It makes the contrast of how people treat the fat guy and how the new king treat him so obvious making an image of him to be kind, humble and judging the other based on what they can do not on what they can't.

TL;DR When picking a wingman pick one less attractive than you so you stand out more.

Did they HAVE to make the fat guy fall over, I mean was it it really necessary.

Was there someone following him around with a tuba?

the next chapter will reveal it.

but if you want explanations now.

Maybe it wasn't, but it does suit the big guy's personality. He's somone who lacked faith in his own abilities and didn't think well of himself. Characters like this tend to be clumsy, be it a fat guy or a cute girl.

Ch. 5 are too rushed, we don't really feel poncho's shock for being the most praised by soma...

... also, soma lend his "Airforce One" Royal Dragon Gondola, not some cheap lookin' dragon + rider...

I just search the artist's name, man now I know why I feel like I saw it before...

Wow. 4 chapters in and already a very interesting world. I have HIGH hopes for this one! :D

And it only gets better

The man is definitely good at running a country

Nice twist at the end there.  The forestry part was a bit weak though. The practice of cultivating woodlands goes back centuries. Forest dwelling elves would have figured it out.

Not necessary, since the world has magic they could have just been using that to continue on instead of basic principles of forestry. Its different perspectives.

So what about the sweat guy, you can't just leave him behind D:

It's less about "protecting the forest" than "cohabiting with it". I think the LN explained that.
And I think he has a point. The forest itself can takes care of itself without humans elves interfering. However in order to LIVE in it as humans elves, you need to reach a balance without destroying it. By that I mean cutting dead trees, periodical thinning, and trying to keep the soil fertile and minimizing the risks of landslides.
Yeah, the forest doesn't need you. But it also means you can get some big issues such as tree diseases, landslide, some soils losing in fertility and so on, from which the forest can recover over time but may costs human elven lives.

Well, I'm not a specialist in the field by no means, but I think his arguments are sound. (I'm a soon-to-be engineer in the construction field so I still know a bit about soil mechanics)

FTFY

Well that was a plot twist.

I worry this hasn't been very well thought out or researched...

Why would forest thinning be needed? Particularly from a Japanese perspective? Japan's forests have fragility issues due to the fact that many of them started anew from cedar/cypress plantations after existing forests had been overharvested. The elven forest doesn't seem like it should be the same...

Does the LN explain the situation more clearly? Because otherwise it's just like a doctor saying to a new patient in the waiting room, "Hey, you're not on chemotherapy? We can fix that with these drugs!"

Cutting dead trees might be nice though.

You can still sell those in a high price even depending on how dead it is(like still intact dead).

one of the best isekai so far

the plot and plan is detailed and realistic

I think the mangaka is doing an actual research for this

there is no forced affection toward MC as well

It's mostly explained in the LN the same as it is here. Honestly, this is something that only gets touched on for this scene and one future event, so I'm sure the author just put something that sounded plausible enough as a reason to fit his needs for the story.
