It's pretty hard to justify this statement (despite all the harm religion has caused) when the you look at the deaths caused by wars and the biggest ones were all politically driven (and the biggest one within the last 100 years).

You should probably look into your history of the world more and then take that back that statement. some countries are still at war over religious views. The news/media don't report it because some places have had uprest in the area going back 1000 years.

There is only one ground on which to dismiss religion: It is not true. That's it. End of story. Whether it brings good or harm is mostly irrelevant, as the story of religion is that of humanity, so we could never get a comprehensive understanding on the impact of religion in the world. Mostly because we don't have a religion-less world to compare ours to.

You know what else has been used to garner support for the Bush wars? Empathy and responsibility. Are they as responsible as politics for those wars too? Religion is a way to bind people together, of course it's going to be mixed with efforts to move large masses of population. That doesn't mean it's responsible, any more than our notion of empathy who is also used an awful lot to start military interventions. If someone bakes a poisoned cake to kill someone, you can't start accusing the chemical yeast of murder.

Now, now, it may be true that religious people are more likely to commit crimes. I don't know, I don't have facts to rule either way. Because the whole "Atheists are less than 1% of people in prison" does not make a compelling argument for "Religious people commit more crimes." What would be a compelling argument for "Religious people commit more crimes" would be a study on the number of crimes by different religious (or unreligious) groups. "Atheists are less than 1% of the people in prison" is an interesting statistic, but what does it mean? That Atheistic people are less often convicted with prison time? For less time on average? That Atheistic people have a huge-ass tendency to convert while in jail? We don't know because while there could be a correlation between "Atheistic" and "not in prison" that does nothing to imply causality in one sense or the other.

For example, did you know that if you go to sleep with socks on, you are statistically more prone to waking up with a headache? This is 100% true.

What? Quick everyone, ban socks! They cause headaches!

Nope. There is correlation between socks and morning headaches, but that does not mean causality. For example something that causes one could have a strong tendency to cause the other. Like being drunk and falling asleep clothed and waking up with a hangover.

Long story short, one single statistic is not an argument. A scientifical and societal study on crimes committed per religious, agnostic or atheistic people where that difference in beliefs is the only diferring factor, all else being equal (because surprisingly poor people living in harsh conditions tend to be religious, the same societal strate most likely to get convicted of crimes and get long, long prison times.) would be.

Gotta love when people use something in a fictional series as an excuse to bash on something they don't like. All I have to say is that religion has good and bad things about it. Now if only a mod can come in and purge these ridiculous messages so that people can enjoy the manga and other people's funny comments without having to see all this toxicity.

Politicians, like Bush, used religious messages to push those wars. In a way, he was no better than people who believe in the Jihad. I'm fairly certain that, if you looked back on those politically driven wars, you'd find the presidents, dictators and whoever was in charge said things concerning religion to garner more support.

Bush used God to justify war, Hitler used religion to push the Nazi agenda forward, the terrorists who have been active of late believe Allah wants it. In a way, the wars were politically driven, but religion was used just as much as political power.

Also, it is a true fact that most of the people in prison are religious. Athiests, contrary to what many are made to believe, make up one of the smallest portion of those in prison. (less than 1%)

BTW, I'm agnostic.

Yes, (organized) religion is a tool and structure of power. Naturally, just as with any such thing, there will be those who abuse it - rulership, representation, marriage, etc. So what? Would you prefer that we took this cornerstone of civilization that has shaped vast parts of human culture and provided safety and stability for billions of people throughout history, just because it has faults? Just like, literally every other thing humans have ever created? What about democracy? Should we throw away democracy too, because of the great errors that have been made in its name - endless wars, etc? Should we abolish states? Should we just stop having a civilization altogether and just go full anarchy, just because power corrupts and some people can't handle it?

Kindly stop being so short-sighted.
