Considering his ability to lose a lot of blood and still be fine, I'd think slitting his wrists would be the least effective method he could possibly go for. Of course, that's probably because the author doesn't actually want him to die, they just want the drama of a suicide attempt, but still, it feels like he would take that into consideration.

Holy shit, I know his innocence is part of his charm, but he needs to realize that you don't have to date someone just because you had drunk sex with them, especially when that other person was clearly taking advantage of your weakened emotional state. He should just shack up with Sam and be done with the coworker already.

I kinda get why he did it, I pretty sure he explained it as having no place to live if he didn't date the co-worker. He couldn't really shack up with Sam after what happened at Sam's house.
