And another "case closed" for the books, thanks a lot for the new chapter Frost!!
Art exists on a higher dimension than life. You wouldn't expect the kind of police tactics (or lack thereof) on shows like "Crime Scene Investigation" or "Breaking Bad" is how police work actually gets done. You shouldn't expect the same here.
The point is, people often live behind excuses. Why are we here? We're here to take a break from real life. Of course, most of the time we don't want to be reminded that we're dodging reality, for one reason or another. If you take that to the extreme, you'll have the guy here as exhibit A.
Also, from her other comments, I find Euo to be generally fair. It's when she gets annoyed or bugged that the situation gets interesting. Like the "peaceful" Swiss, for instance.
Just cause he's "bugged" doesn't mean he can sorta "in the face" a patient like that.
Even when you don't want to keep him as a patient, that is.
And if it's for his sake or for the treatments'sake...
I concur with Euo, might work with this guy, but as a general idea is just as good as jumping on young girls with panic syndrome.
Unsure if trying to shock somebody in facing what they've been carefully avoiding for years is exactly the right thing to do. Depending on the person.
Well, I think one has to look at it from the perspective that the guy is wasting Yoon's time, so Frost is rather bugged. After all, Frost knows best, right?
<mutters> Never mind the various, demonstrable autoimmune issues things like CBT actually have, there, or anything.
FYI: polio was thought to be psychosomatic at one point. As was temporal lobe epilepsy. A lot of conditions get slapped with that label before their etiology is actually worked out, as it's easier to dismiss stuff as "all in the head" rather than admit there might actually be a load of problems to try sorting. Also, the inference that the mental-physical or physical-mental feedback doesn't give rise to major physical changes that take time to resolve also bugs the hell out of me.
Mental illness in all its forms is just as pressing as physical. And, the line is too often blurred to say for sure which starts where, in a lot of cases.
<bugged>
Cool, thanks a lot Frost!!
Oh, I can actually relate to this one. Yay, now I know what's wrong with me!
Turns out it's NOT a gaming addiction; it's
Still alienating your substantial base of web-addicted shut-ins, though.
oh the spoilers
It is not a gaming/internet adiction. He has problems in life which he thinks he cannot solve and the internet is just his form of escapism.
here's my theory
Great new chapter, thanks a lot Frost!!
Haha, Dr Baek, you're as blunt as ever, I see :3
Parental expectations? Sibling rivalry? Oh... the possibilities.
But, seriously: a guy doesn't just leave the therapy guide unread part-way through to hit the web because it's a simple case of "vague anxiety over joblessness" coupled with "internet addiction". That degree of visceral emotional rejection and fear of change will have some hardcore roots.
No fair, Euo D:
At least bet on something we don't know,
like if it's really internet addiction or so what
(and are we really sure of that?~ <3)
Anybody willing to bet with me that she's got the wrong end of the stick? Anybody? <gets ready to take the money...>
And reading Dr Frost, chapter 84
xDD
that's very common. it takes too long to get to the root of the problem, so until you get there, all you can do is treat the symptoms. the first thing one should do for treating depression or anxiety, is to fix the sleep schedule and diet, because alleviating the symptoms makes it easier to handle everyday life, and also to think clearly enough to get any effect from therapy.
it's a little difficult to know whether cyber addiction is the real cause. many people who struggle with depression or other problems will get addicted to whatever helps get their mind off the problem for some time. some use drugs, others use cyber space.
i'm a little disappointed that she didn't ask him about drinking habits. coffee or tea after noon isn't too good if you want to sleep at night.
Cool, thanks a lot for the new chapter Frost!!
Well, it's not easy treating the cause, if the patient's lying about it.
She did try to treat the insomnia (cause) in order to solve his unemployment problem (symptom) by banning his TV, smartphone and any other distraction in bed (cause), rather than recommending sleeping pills (symptom).
So far she did a decent job, I guess.
I have the exact same problem. Literally....
And I guess its more prevalent in Korea with all the Starcraft hype on top of the League hype.
Treating the symptom and not the cause. At least she didn't start writing prescriptions.
